Here’s an awesome way to use the thr30. Use the line outs into a couple monitors and a Subwoofer say on your desktop. Play a backing track through your phones Bluetooth connected to the amp and you get great sounding backing track PLUS your guitar tone through the monitors and subwoofer. You can balance guitar audio and Bluetooth audio easily. Added bonus: your guitar tone still comes out of the amp itself as well, so set it up on the side of your ear for a Stereo sound. I set up my amp around 8oclock on my ear, one monitor about 11oclock, and the other monitor around 3oclock. Wow!!!!!! Plus all of coopers awesome presets! @@firdausHITMAN For me the best new feature is the cab selection through the app. That plus the classic/boutique/modern voicing switch really gives you a huge palate of tones to work with. The 10x had more gain saturation but in turn sounded more digital to my ears where the 30ii has a more organic feel to it. I know it's perfect for practicing anywhere including outdoors, and it's the perfect warming up amp before a gig. Keep Rocking your page has become the true go to for all things Yamaha Amps.. 🤘
I gig with this amp for multiple shows per week. You can use it without sending a line out into the house IF: 1. You’re solo - it’s just you, your vocals, and your guitar. 2. The room is less than 100 people 3. You don’t mind the people in the very front having too much guitar, and the people in the back having a bit of a muddy experience. For a room of 50 people - there’s no need to plug into the house.
But if you’re sending line out to the house - I would trust this amp for pretty much any gig. 100 people. 300 people. 1000 people. Whatever. It’s my favorite piece of kit and I take it everywhere.

I have a THR30 with the wifi and love it....I have a G10 relay from guitar to pedal board and then another G10 from last pedal to THR30... no cables at all!....but only bought it the summer before last and the power adaptor input is very dodgy. I have to fiddle with the cable for ages to get it the charge up. Can't believe it's kaiboshed already (been like this for 6mnths too) and that's £450 up the wall. I don't believe it's a problem with the cable/charger. I wonder if this is a common problem with them?
NB! The difference between 30 and 10 is NOT only the power (loudness)! 10 does not have line outs and has less knobs on a panel. Those maybe a very important differences for some! E.g. if you plan to gig with it and use line out.
Great video. One question. When you hook up to the FOH, are you using speaker cables or just regular 1/4 inch? And what setting do you think sounds best (flat, modern...). I guess that's 2 questions. Awesome video though!!
Going to front of house you would use 1/4 inch cables. FLAT setting is where the THR becomes a DI box basically, no distortion or anything like that. So I would use a preset from the THR itself if I was solely using that amp live.
Forgive me if this was already addressed but do you keep yours plugged into the mains all the time as it sits unused, or do you leave sit unplugged with it charged? I’m curious if keeping plugged in all of the time will make the battery degrade faster over time.
I keep mine plugged in all the time. Never had any problems. Not noticed any battery degradation and I use mine every day. If there has been degradation it's not affected battery life too much
Great video. at 3:25 I think you told me what I want to know. I'm going to do a solo with my backing tracks (R&R) and trying to minimize. Tried the new guitar pedal amps WITH cabs - doesn't do it for me. I want to do the same as you using the THR as my guitar amp/monitor - would like to not use my in-ears again. So the question is does the amp send the same sound in the line outs that I'm hearing live. some amps only send clean signal. Thanks !!
Chicken Ranch used to be a Nevada "business". No personal experience but I'm of an age that has heard the stories. I'm enjoying my THR30II, late 70's Marshall 2100 combo confined to involuntary retirement.
The shirt- From the Best Li’l Whorehouse in Texas! The inspiration for ZZ Top’s “La Grange”! It’s in La Grange, Texas, about 100 miles from my house. I never went there but knew guys who did, back in the late ‘60’s to early ‘70’s.
I run my THR10X and THR10II together with a radial aby box as my practice setup on the desk. Sound is really big and beefy together sometimes running one wet and cleaner and the other dry with distortion or bit of both. You should try with good aby that can isolate one line and reverse phase. Need to experiment more as there is so much versatility. Love some of the sounds you get 👍🏻
With the THR30: Can you use the line outs on the back to plug into a powercab like say Fender Tonemaster cab, PG spark Cab or other digital powercabs? For jamming with a loud drummer etc
In my experience owning both the THR10X and now the THHR30II I agree with Cameron; THR10X IS Beefier. They are close but I strongly feel the THR10X had better gain.
Hey Cameron, The specific use case I’m interested in knowing about is: Using a multi-effects unit, the new BOSS ME-90 (set to line: cab simulations are on) through the INPUT with the THR AMP setting on FLAT (as I understand is an FRFR-type setting / no cab simulation). I.e., does the THR work / sound well as a mini FRFR? Love your channel, yYM
I appreciate the question. I'm not sure if this answers it but it should work. I use the Blackstar AMPED 3 through the front with the THR set to flat and it sounds awesome!
@@CameronCooper Cameron, Thanks for the reply. Yes, that basically answers my question. Here’s why, in my opinion, it’s relative to the latest trends: - Many people are asking what FRFR cabinets that can be played at low ‘practice’ volumes. (This applies to me.) The THR ‘might’ be an answer. - Many people are asking about switchers and/or effects pedals. So, for example, let’s imagine I want to practice a song the way I’m actually going to play it for a small audience. Let’s imagine I’m playing a crunch tone and I want to add a booster for, say, lead and have “spillover” when the effect or patch is changed. (This applies to many songs I play.) * So, there is a reason I’m considering the BOSS ME-90: When using batteries with the ME-90 all the basics are there quickly and I’d also be completely cable free with the THR. Note: I am wireless to the ME-90. Note: Having just been released, I considered the BOSS Katana Air EX. But there is no ‘FLAT’ mode. And the CLEAN channel still has speaker emulation. Also, BOSS makes a DUAL CUBE LX with a STEREO mode. But I’ve not seen one person actually use it in that mode. Thanks again for the help, yYM
I've had this for one year and it sounds and looks great but the iOS App and G10TII wireless are glitchy. I'm a software developer so hardly a noob - I think these wireless issues should be mentioned. I also had trouble updating the firmware, but eventually got that done. I want to love this product, and generally I love (and own) many Yamaha products but the software is glitchy - I'm really hoping they improve it. (If it had a looper that'd be really cool!) The only thing stopping me from giving it 5 stars is the wireless stuff. If I play out I'd definitely use a cable!
In my experience it's a little temperamental. I downloaded the THR Remote for my computer and never once had a problem. I always encourage people to download the software for their computer. The only time I ever go wireless is connecting my phone using bluetooth. I use a cable and remain connected to the mains out of habit. Never once had a problem
Mine is on order (however) Yamaha - has Failed-to-Answer: Can the Battery eventually be Replaced, once it No-longer takes-a-charge? ( valid question I think ? )
@@CameronCooper Yes = still a valid question? I understand it can be plugged-in, but I am specifically Purchasing-it - to do Outdoor low-volume gigs, so I'd like to know, can a New Battery be purchased ? Yamaha has still-not answered or addressed this question.
@@michael_caz_nyc I don't think the battery is replaceable unfortunately. Yamaha may plan to make it replaceable but no news of that at the moment. Definitely a valid question. 😊👍🏻
I have original THR30II. When I connect bluetooth audio streaming, before THR remote app by bluetooth, often times the audio gets muted after some time, even RUclips or MP3 player is playing and bluetooth connection is on. Solution: I connect THR remote app first, then I connect audio bluetooth streaming device.
So on the old videos the Yamaha Editor seems like it has a lot more tones that you can save. I mean, 5 is ok, but just wondering. Didn't see that on the PC app either. Also trying to figure out Cubase but that is a whole different ballgame.
The old THR Editor had a library built in. Whereas the THR Remote doesn't from what I can ascertain. Are you trying to figure out Cubase for the THR30II?
@@CameronCooper Yeah its not the main reason I bought the amp but I'd like to try to record on Cubase and use some of the built in drum loops or other instruments, etc. I have a Surface, might have to try and download it on my wife's Mac. I seem to be able to record (I can see the audio going in) but I'm not getting any audio ouput from the program. Tried adding a "bus" with the THR but getting nothing from the computer speakers or the THR. I downloaded the manual, I've only used Garageband before so I'm no expert.
@@CameronCooper Hi Cameron, really enjoy your channel and playing On the THR30ii Remote app ( PC windows 10 ), the Guitar icon in top left corner can be used to "save current preset to disc" = a folder in the computer. Self made presets or downloaded patches can be saved there too. Then using the Guitar Icon and "Load Preset from disc" allows them to be retrieved - which is a sort of a patch Library ! But of course not visible in the remote app, but only visible in the computer folder. Not as convenient as old THR Editor, but still a bit of a work around.
When using the line out feature is it possible to turn off the built in speakers and maintain the sound to the board to keep a quiet stage? I was thinking about using one in church but need to remain quiet on the stage.
Would you say this amp has the best clean tone out of all the small practice amps you’ve tried? I know that what is considered to be “the best” is extremely subjective but I’m interested in anyone’s feedback or opinion on what they feel has the best clean tone. I’m all about really beautiful sounding clean tones. Chimey bell Strat tone. For gigging I use a Diezel Schmidt head into a two rock 2x12” cab combined with a Fender Pro reverb. The clean tone, is to my ears beautiful with loads of headroom and no distortion. But they’re too loud even on their own for reasonable practice levels. So I want something small but beautiful sounding on the clean channel. I’m not really interested in the distortion channels.
As you said it is subjective but I've never been able to find a clean sound I like out of this amp. I just use the distortion then turn my volume down for a cleaner sound
Hey Cam! I'm going to ask you another question but this ones oddly specific: On my THR remote app (both on PC and ios) I can't get to the "Reverb: plate" setting, I'm only on "reverb: spring" and because of that I can't get all the settings of your preset down fully which is semi-frustrating, and I can't find anything online about it. Ideas? or am I missing something obvious? I can clarify more details if needed.
I think the plate reverb is available on the PC. In the remote click on the where it says spring reverb, it should give you the option to change it. If not, update the software and try again. You may have a really old version perhaps because I believe the plate reverb was an update that came a few months after the remote app was officially released but don't quote me on that.
I have the THR3011.....great amp. However, like some other youtubers are posting in their reviews, I cannot get the software to download properly, despite following the instructions perfectly, and trying several times. Frustrating. I might try to contact Yamaha, but it's a hassle.
@@CameronCooper I went to the Yamaha website as directed, ; (I have windows 10, which is required) clicked on the appropriate links for the software, and the installer just will not download. You know the typical computer type thing where it says " installing" or "downloading" ( i forget exactly which word appeared)....and it just goes on and on for an hour, not completing. And its actually not a very big file either. Thanks, I realize you arent tech support, I was just venting my frustration.
Hey Ron, could you have an antivirus software that's blocking it or something? It's bizarre a tiny file like that won't download. You've done everything right by the sounds of things but there might be a technical issue that I cannot solve.
@@CameronCooper thats a thought, but I never have any problem downloading software, so i think this is just a glitch of some sort. As I said, I've seen at least one other youtuber reviewing this product that had the same problem. Anyway, thanks for replying and giving ur imput. Great channel, keep on rocking out man.
@@rickbartocetti847 I really don't know. Get a big PA speaker and hook my THR30II up to it. Or buy an EVH LBX or something. 50W or 100W is literally pointless for me these days

There isn't a lot to it. Install the app, connect to your amp via bluetooth and start tweaking. There's not a lot to tweak. Just some extended parameters you can't access using the knobs on to of the amp. There's an extra delay in there and you can select different cabs.

Read your initial comment again, you said 'would this amp be good for playing backing tracks on location for porn movie shoots?' You muppet... It's not designed to be a live performance amp on it's own unless you use the stereo lineouts on the back and plug directly into a PA system.
@@CameronCooper I mean playing live on guitar in a room, I figured it would be loud enough to fill a bedroom sized space with room mics, but yeah probably best to just go into the mixing console...I can see how my initial comment could have been confusing.

Sound is really big and beefy together sometimes running one wet and cleaner and the other dry with distortion or bit of both. You should try with good aby that can isolate one line and reverse phase. Need to experiment more as there is so much versatility. Love some of the sounds you get 👍🏻
Awesome review, thank you!
Thanks ! Very useful. Can you plug a looper ? How ?
Plug a looper into the front and you should be fine
We know that shirt is inspired by ZZ Top and from where I live, Texas! And I want one!!!
This is such an easy one for me... La Grange by ZZ Top. The Chicken Ranch was a brothel back in the 60s and 70s near La Grange Texas...
"But does it Djent?" 🤣
If you can, it will 😊🤘🏻
😁👊
You actually can lol. I think Drew Creal created a preset. Pretty massive sounding 👌
lol super late but on the app there’s a factory preset that has 7 string Djent or something like that 😂
With the THR30: Can you use the line outs on the back to plug into a powercab like say Fender Tonemaster cab, PG spark Cab or other digital powercabs? For jamming with a loud drummer etc
Good tips on the need to know about this amp
The shirt is ZZ Top inspired!!
In my experience owning both the THR10X and now the THHR30II I agree with Cameron; THR10X IS Beefier. They are close but I strongly feel the THR10X had better gain.
agreed i have both I pefer the 10x love channel 3 all i use brown 1 rules
100 percent agree I have both amps and the green one has brutal beefier distortion
Hey Cameron,
The specific use case I’m interested in knowing about is:
Using a multi-effects unit, the new BOSS ME-90 (set to line: cab simulations are on) through the INPUT with the THR AMP setting on FLAT (as I understand is an FRFR-type setting / no cab simulation).
I.e., does the THR work / sound well as a mini FRFR?
Love your channel,
yYM
I appreciate the question. I'm not sure if this answers it but it should work. I use the Blackstar AMPED 3 through the front with the THR set to flat and it sounds awesome!
@@CameronCooper Cameron,
Thanks for the reply. Yes, that basically answers my question. Here’s why, in my opinion, it’s relative to the latest trends:
- Many people are asking what FRFR cabinets that can be played at low ‘practice’ volumes.
(This applies to many songs I play.)
* So, there is a reason I’m considering the BOSS ME-90: When using batteries with the ME-90 all the basics are there quickly and I’d also be completely cable free with the THR.
Thanks again for the help,
yYM
I think the shirt says it all, unless you mean a movie
What color does the inside glow light up inside the black one?
(Is it an orange light like in the beige)
Its orange
Such a great vid, thank you.
Steve Coogan would have a field day with this guy...😂😂😁
Made my day that did
I’m having a hard time finding how long the battery holds a charge for. Did you say about 8 hours cause if so that’s awesome!
Yes about 8 hours
I just received mine and was pleasantly surprised that I can update firmware through the iPad app
👍🏻👍🏻
Can't get the reverb on mine to work. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
That's very strange. Check the THR Remote app and see if it works from there. Other than I'm not sure what the issue could be
I've had this for one year and it sounds and looks great but the iOS App and G10TII wireless are glitchy.
Hey Cameron, in the THR editor app, do you have the speaker option set to Open or Focused?
I'm not sure. Open I think
Nice shirt lol drop dead legs?? Idk, that thr looks sick!
I guess the shirt is inspired by ZZ top if im thinking right! I am hoping that i get money for the THR30II on my 18th birthday i am craving 1 lmao
Can you hook up looper easily?
Thank you.
You could hook up a looper to the aux in and jam to yourself that way. I've seen some people connect a looper using the line outs on the back
Mine is on order (however) Yamaha - has Failed-to-Answer: Can the Battery eventually be Replaced, once it No-longer takes-a-charge? ( valid question I think ? )
Did you watch this video to the end?
@@CameronCooper Yes = still a valid question? I understand it can be plugged-in, but I am specifically Purchasing-it - to do Outdoor low-volume gigs, so I'd like to know, can a New Battery be purchased ? Yamaha has still-not answered or addressed this question.
@@michael_caz_nyc I don't think the battery is replaceable unfortunately. Yamaha may plan to make it replaceable but no news of that at the moment. Definitely a valid question. 😊👍🏻
@@CameronCooper Yes brother - I really Hope-so? Mine is finally on the way. Appreciate the information.
That's strange... thanks for sharing that if anyone needs it
A later patch did give the THR30ii an effects loop
Did it?
@@CameronCooper just RUclips it. You'll find the instruction video
@@faethe000 Cool! I don't need the FX loop but cool
Which foot switch pedal do you recommend? YT edition or Lite

I have to return the one I just ordered, it has grounding issues. Awesome amp though
@@CameronCooper Hi Cameron, really enjoy your channel and playing
On the THR30ii Remote app ( PC windows 10 ), the Guitar icon in top left corner can be used to "save current preset to disc" = a folder in the computer.
Cameron, here in Texas this band is well known. The t- shirt is referring to ZZ TOP?
Yep
Is it working with nux b5rc wireless transmitter?
This was Line 6 G10 at the time.
Can you please do a video on it, that would be great. Thank you.
I have....
Great amps.
When using the line out feature is it possible to turn off the built in speakers and maintain the sound to the board to keep a quiet stage? I was thinking about using one in church but need to remain quiet on the stage.
I don't think that's possible. But, maybe try turning down the 'guitar' knob on the amp while hooked up to the PA and see what happens.
@@CameronCooper thanks for your reply, but I don’t own one yet to try. Maybe another owner is reading and can give us a response
Honest answer is the tone better than the THR10X?
It does some things better. It's up to the player
how do you record the sound from the amp?
Via USB into my computer
I have the THR 30ii wireless/airstep but idk how to use it to change the pedals e.I. Chorus, comp, flanger, etc can you show how to set that up.
Go onto the official XSonic Airstep YT Demo video :)
@@CameronCooper thanks Cameron :)
Is the shirt inspired from American Made Music to Strip By?
No idea, I got it as a gift one Christmas and never asked
Can any of these unit be daisy chained or stacked?
No, they aren't designed to be
Do they still make the THR10X
It was discontinued 3 year ago
@@CameronCooper I just got mine today and I just got the prompt for the update! Thanks so much for the speedy response!
@@jamescoyne4559 you're welcome! I hope it works
I have the THR3011.....great amp. However, like some other youtubers are posting in their reviews, I cannot get the software to download properly, despite following the instructions perfectly, and trying several times. Frustrating. I might try to contact Yamaha, but it's a hassle.
What's the trouble? I'm obviously not official tech support for Yamaha but I will do my best

@@CameronCooper what would YOU buy, tube or ss to get those 10x sounds at 50 or 100 watt power??
@@rickbartocetti847 I really don't know. Get a big PA speaker and hook my THR30II up to it. Or buy an EVH LBX or something. 50W or 100W is literally pointless for me these days
Quanti effetti si possono mettere in catena?
3 at max if dialed in right. A modulation effect like chorus with delay and reverb added.
Is that shirt Chicken Ranch Records, the home of Peelander-Z et al? (Or I suppose more likely the brothel, ha.)
I’m surprised they haven’t added helix modeling and effects technology to this amp.
Then it would stop people buying Helix stuff
I keep looking online to see if anyone has modded this to have a different color LED for the glow. Do you know if this has been done, or has anyone else in the comments made this mod? Seems like it would be a simple mod to kind of personalize one.

PLEASE make a basic tutorial about the phone App. There is nothing out there at all and it's not very intuitive.
There isn't a lot to it. Install the app, connect to your amp via bluetooth and start tweaking. There's not a lot to tweak. Just some extended parameters you can't access using the knobs on to of the amp. There's an extra delay in there and you can select different cabs.

would this amp be good for playing backing tracks on location for porn movie shoots?
It plays music brilliantly like any bluetooth speaker, so yes. Just make sure it doesn't get wet on your shoots.
@@CameronCooper not backing tracks, live performance but thanks
Read your initial comment again, you said 'would this amp be good for playing backing tracks on location for porn movie shoots?' You muppet...
It's not designed to be a live performance amp on it's own unless you use the stereo lineouts on the back and plug directly into a PA system.
@@CameronCooper I mean playing live on guitar in a room, I figured it would be loud enough to fill a bedroom sized space with room mics, but yeah probably best to just go into the mixing console...I can see how my initial comment could have been confusing.
Yes it's easily loud enough to fill a bedroom sized space. But your original comment didn't say anything about performance at all.
