  • Our Audi was misfiring and when we checked the coils they were really oily. This is a number 1 sign that the gasket has been worn off and needs to be replaced. In this video we show you how to change Valve cover gasket on 2008 Audi A5 along with spark plugs and coils. Valve cover gasket location, inspection, diagnosis, removal and replacement / installation explained.

The oil in the spark plug holes does not come from the bad valve cover gasket. It comes from a bad spark plug gasket. The spark plug gasket is beneath the cam girdle. The cam girdle is what you see when you remove the valve cover gasket. In order to remove it, you have to put the engine at too dead center (TDC) and install a camshaft locking device to then remove the cam girdle and camshafts. There are 20 bolts on one side and 22 on the other side. You need new bolts when you reinstall because they are “stretch” bolts and require you to tighten them an additional 1/4 turn after you torque them down (that stretches the bolts). You clean all of those up, to include the mating surfaces, install a new spark plug gasket on the back side of the cam girdle and then install the gasket sealant (it is not a rubber gasket like the valve cover and spark plug gaskets. It’s a liquid anerobic sealant) (costs $80 from Audi but you can use another brand like Permatex). I guarantee you one year later (now) that you have oil in your spark plug holes again right?
Also, you don’t need any additional liquid gasket sealant for the valve covers. You just use the rubber valve cover gasket by itself.

please explain? the reason the spark plug cavity get oiled up is because of the center gaskets. it's the only reason. there are no under girdle gaskets. the gasket is here www.rockauto.com/info/942/AVC933S.jpg.@@jasonpatterson7266

Wow ! It’s been 2 days trying to solve this problem , I changed all 6 coils and all 6 spark plugs because of a misfire in cylinder 1 and 4 , also changed valve cover gasket on both sides 2 hours later oil is back into the spark plugs , we opened everything again cleaned up added silicone thinking to seal it better and some washer /protecteur whatever to the spark plugs , put everything back erased the codes , drove a little bit better for 1 mile than EPC and check engine light come back on and car was misfiring again but much less than before , now this guy is saying it could be the fuel injecteurs what’s causing that , but I honestly doubt it, car still leaking oil underneath like few drops here and there nothing major , I am not a mechanic by the way and thinking to just get rid of it . Told them to maybe tomorrow open again and check again if oil is back again into the spark plugs they want to charge more , so far I paid $400 labor and $380 between new coils and S plugs and fresh oil etc ..I am above my budget for this car that has 172,000 miles 2012 Audi Q 5 premium plus quatro 3.2 AWD … This explained it all , AUDi making it impossible to fix the oil leak so you can go to the dealer and spend $3000 ..

Hi my friend, I have the same engine 3.2fsi in my A6 2005 and I the problem with cylinder 6 missfire and error code is P0306, I have tried everything to fix but unfortunately it is not possible, I have done test compression and there was 0 compression in cylinder 6, it may be the same problem or valves please.
    Regard from Sweden

Sounds correct 👍🏼 I think this might be the answer if you tried changing all plugs and coils and gasket and still misfiring driving ruff .. I have this issue now with my 2012 Q5 3.2 and I think is something internal in the engine we will maybe reopen and see if oil is back again into the cylinder hole if not than we know for sure it’s bye bye to this car

Nah cuz the gasket was leaking and oil was going into the spark plugs. Thats why it was having misfires cuz it burned out the plugs
