- This ground-breaking heritage engagement programme ran for 550 days (18 months) in Ipswich, UK, from 10 March 2023 - 10 September 2024, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
The project was established by Ipswich Central to recognise and celebrate the 550th anniversary of the birth of Cardinal Thomas Wolsey (1473-1530) in Ipswich, Suffolk, and to create a new legacy for the town’s most famous son. Given Wolsey’s unprecedented career and meteoric rise from humble beginnings, the overarching ambitions of the programme were to increase social mobility, and build a sense of pride in place in the town.
The most successful elements of the project included confidence building arts/ heritage workshops for primary school pupils; an inspirational careers programme for secondary school students; and an innovative street art placemaking scheme for young people.
