So much attention of “CRA” movie has been focused with the actors/actresses, director & author. So it was refreshing to discover this interview vid about one of CRA songs, “Yellow”, and its awesome singer. Interesting background story on how director Jon Chu wrote a pleading letter to Coldplay on how their song “Yellow” greatly meant to him personally, and the band finally granting permission to use in his movie. So cool that Jon chose university student, Katherine Ho, from his alma mater, USC, to sing this beautiful song in the movie, and in Mandarin, which added to the cultural theme. Usually movie songs are sung & recorded by professional famous singers or actors, so it was wonderful & incredible the song was performed by a young, unassuming and brilliant Chinese-American college student! So cool she is now part of the CRA fame and she was so excited to learn the project was CRA movie, and a longtime fan of Constance Wu. Wonder if she attended any of the glamorous Hollywood or Asia events showcasing CRA? I was hoping Katherine would sing a few bars of her song in this vid, instead of reading the lyrics in Mandarin. But I enjoyed this interview very much and all about Katherine Ho! Thank you, Nicki! (love your yellow dress!)

A comment that shows you actually watched this entire interview is EVERYTHING! I even gave you a shout out on my Instagram stories because it meant so much to me. Thank you SO much for sharing in our conversation :) If I may share something off-camera, Katherine was actually not invited to the Hollywood premiere. I was SHOCKED! Like, what?! So you KNOW I had to do this interview and share even more about this wonderful human being. I, too, was not granted clearance to cover the green carpet premiere...hopefully, my numbers won't matter so much in the future as the quality of coverage I would have brought. We kept all that off-camera for obvious reasons, haha...but we still got mad love for everyone involved and couldn't be more thrilled for the success of CRA and what it means for the Asian American community! Glad you liked my dress-I picked it for obvious reasons ;)

Thank u, Nicki, for your lovely reply, that my response to your interview of Katherine Ho meant so much to you. Coincidentally, today I went to see CRA again, as you can see & hear details of a movie the second time around. I paid attention when Katherine’s “Yellow” was sung in the movie, and it was during the most emotional scenes. There many other songs sung in Mandarin that added to the cultural aspect. I always sit through the credits, so I enjoyed Awkwafina’s “Money” song and watching the cool kaleidoscope of bright colors and images from the movie (even saw the dead fish) and loved the bright emerald engagement ring. Anyways, I thought it was great that you gave recognition to other Asian contributors to CRA and someone as young as Katherine is inspiring to see, especially to the younger crowd. Great choice by director Jon Chu. I told my daughter, who is half Chinese and lives in SoCal, to watch CRA soon before she leaves for vacation to Bali. As I subscribe to your channel, I look forward to your future interviews and vids!

It's never too late to learn. My husband was not fluent in Cantonese (being Penang Hokkien). He took it up when he started working. I grew up speaking Cantonese. Learned Chinese in secondary school. I'm Hakka and never got the chance to learn it while growing up. I learned it while listening to Sabah Hakka songs a former schoolmate sings.
