The duality of the two leaders is impeccable in this story. And the delivery of this made this impactful I love hearing these on my drive to and from work!

Yes!!!! Years back I bought a second-hand copy of the book "Words of Blood" which was printed in 2002 and contains 11 short stories, and I can't wait for ABP to bring these stories to life with his wonderful reading voice. Praise the Emperor! Thank you, ABP!
@@ABorderPrince Oops. I thought it was going to be Words of Blood the book as the picture is the same as on the cover. But no worries, as I have that book as well and enjoy them both. Thanks!
Let the Galaxy Burn was the book that got me back into WH40K after I stopped gaming a few years earlier. The early books by guys like Ian Watson, Ben Counter and William King really captured the nihilistic hopelessness of the setting where even being victorious was Pyrrhic. It's interesting how reasonable that BT Commander was before the Templar Codex fleshed out their fanatical modus operandi. Now that guy ironically enough would've wound up like Captain Titus for employing a Codex Astartes compliant battle plan that violated the Templar ethos.
This is why I like space wolves and blood Angel's. Grimnar started a war with the inquisition to save guardsmen after armageddon and dante has built his reputation on protecting mortals. I guess salamanders have the same reputation but I haven't read much on them.
During the third war of Armageddon, the salamanders spent their time on the world protecting and escorting refugees from the fallen hive cities. During that time, one of the captains of the Marines malevolent shelled a refuge camp that was over run by orks, killing a ton of them. When chapter master tu'shan confronted him, he claimed that he didn't care about the casualties, because the emperor knows his own and the refugees should have fought off the orks or fought to the death. tu'shan then punched him in the face and put him flat on his ass.
Great stuff - the first really convincing portrayal I've heard in 40K of the effects of Khorne worship on men *without* transhuman augmentation and nails in their brains (and how to defeat them).
This is exactly what I wanted to see in my recommend not some soulless tasty cooking video but a man with a passion and a willingness to serve if fellow 40k fans even if he is a second some of noble from the empire
“We have retreated in the face of the enemy, but there is no shame in that. For by doing so we have defeated them, the shame belongs to the man skinner, for throwing away his chance at victory by fighting alongside animals, not soldiers.” That resonates with me. I know everyone has had to trade honor for tactical advantage, it’s hard to back down from a fight. Even when you know you will be struck down, it’s death before dishonor. But when so much is at stake, it’s life before pride.
"Sgt. Valerian scrambled low over the wall ofnthe temple to avoid detection." . . How in TF does a 9 foot tall, 800lb armored Transhuman Tank do stealth?
As of the time of writing this, for the past week I've been greeting my friends and family with the lines, "The sky above has darkened," and, "Only through victory can we honor the Emperor and Mankind." I thought I'd come back to make a report. It hasn't gone well.

It boggles me sometimes about the inconsistencies in the space marines. Like, sometimes you can send 1 marine sgt to fight off an entire Dark Eldar raiding party of over 100 Drukari, and then here some las pistols and sabers cause wounds? Which is it?
this is old. a lot of the space marine power level wasnt worked out for a long time. its solid now we know what they can do. back when this was written it was still vague on ho powerful they were so you get issues like this
Huh, who'd have thought that a bunch of mortals insanely zerg-rushing a group of disciplined, armed, near-indestructible super soldiers was a tactically unsound strategy?
this is what i've learned so far... Tactics are for amateurs, professionals learn to do the real stuff right, logistics, intelligence, discipline and training... supreme excellence is not in winning every single battle, supreme excellence is in winning without ever fighting a single battle... that's Sun Tzu for you brother... nice story... loved it...

Loved the narrating, been listening to these stories from hours on end. However, this story as a portrayal of Black Templars seems very flawed, which kinda ruined it for me. The Black Templars don’t form codex compliant squads of tac, dev, and assault. They go for crusading squads of 4-20 man teams of both battle brothers and scouts, with different squads opting to use a combination of weapons and gear that suits that group’s style. They talk about returning to Terra frequently, despite the Templars not being from Terra, nor do they travel to it unless it’s because of a certain Age of Apostasy. The Templars are a space based chapter that only returns to reconquered worlds for new recruits. The Adeptus Terra have no sway over Astartes, and especially not to the Templars. The Templars dislike the administratum, and keep themselves distanced from it to hide various secrets such as total chapter strength. Reporting to them for complaints would never happen. The last point is that we can guess that the commander of this force is a Castellan, but space marines never call their superiors “sir”. They are a brotherhood, and would refer to their superiors sire, brother castellan, or even lord. This isn’t the guard, they don’t call their commanding officer “sir”. My takeaway from this short is that the writer is very talented at writing the guard, and space marines in general, but not the Black Templars. It feels to me as he wrote the story, and was told to change the chapter he already had in it to be a Black Templar and just shoehorned the Templar ideology without further reconsiderations.

I gotta question, why didnt the templars bring heavy vehicles and stuff? To quicky destroy the Heretic?
Things like that are considered relics and only deployed in extremes to avoid loses. Most marines are deployed small scale like this as infantry etc
