Fantastic. You adding those lovely butterflies to the top was genius, it was the perfect finishing touch to this amazing piece. Good old Martin always there with praise and encouragement for his Lady. Wonderful couple, thank you both.
As always, stellar teaching! The blending (you are my blending guru❤), and I ALWAYS love when something goes"wrong" and you show us how to fix it, usually through camoflage techniques - that have been the rescue for me so many times. ❤❤❤
Ha ha ha well I am not as keen when filming when it goes wrong I also know it's honest and I learn and you guys also learn. It's great to be able to fix things but also it's great to see someone do it. Furniture is a constant fix..... And if I can't fix then I am great at camouflage x
Oh Lel, those butterflies you put on the top were exactly what was needed! You saved it! So glad you addressed the dreaded “bleed through! 😱. It’s a real bummer when it happens , and I hate solvent based products too but sometimes….🤷♀️. I love your paper, it’s not only GORGEOUS, but so easy to work with…hats off to you and Martyn for not only designing, but also engineering just the right paper. Love you guys. ❤❤❤
Thanks Lisa, yes the dreaded bleed through. Suffered by furniture painter everywhere. I jyst couldn't get behind it after that and the butterflies were my last attempt at making it slightly better x
The problem-solving was so terrific and I loved your honesty that you weren't sure you loved the moulding. What I do love is hiw you painted them ----green,blue, orange which is something I haven't tried yet but definitely will. And camouflage is my new best friend
Yes if you have fixed and fixed till you can fix no more..... Camouflage or trick the eye away from the problem. Well if you can..... I'm not saying you end up loving it, as I don't really like this one as much as others because I wanted a plain top... But sometimes I'm picky x
That is my favorite paper that you came out with. Because it reminds me of my mom. I always see a yellow butterfly when I am down or thinking about her. We just went to see my son who is in the Air Force. When we were on the base walking our dog we were surrounded by yellow butterflies. I told my son his granny was watching over him. He said he sees them all the time out there. I think it came out beautiful! Thank you!!
I really love this paper I got mine on Thursday from the accidental artmaker and I am thrilled with how versatile it is. Because the background is a brighter white it can go bright and springy or it can be waxed and aged well without becoming so very very dark I am just seriously excited about getting a piece to use is on. I might do a small first if I can’t get a big one just because I love it so much! I really love this project for its ease lel because i am an ambitious beginner and this paper lends itself to making me look good lol.
Yes..... I'm also an ambitious beginner when I have not tried something..... I don't think there's anything wrong with that.... Fern you have this just go slow and take your time x
I love this. The top looks great. You and Martyn made me laugh all through this. Learned a lot with you “fixing “ the top. Another spectacular video.!❤
Yes! I'm working on one right now. If Marty saw it, he would laugh. I am just having such a hard time getting a thing back together properly. It was made very poorly originally and the screws didn't hold. Now I'm trying to change it over to dowels. Wish me luck! But, it gives me such anxiety I don't want to go to my shop. @@MadebyMarley
Thank you so much! Jenny problems Come up and I would never shy away from showing you all, that way you can fix them and I guess it's just honest and I hear it's always the best policy 😂😂😂😂
What a great piece of furniture! I love the versatility of your papers! That along with you teaching us ways to do more with decoupage makes using them limitless! These butterflies are a beautiful colorful symbol of spring and me looking forward to not being cold 😂. Thank you one again for giving us the tools to be like the best we can be! ❤❤❤
Oh Lel, this was a super tutorial. Learned a lot. The piece turned out perfectly beautifully and I'm not sad that you had to change plans for the top as it is elegant. I have used Zinsser Bin for years for ceiling water spots that nothing else will cover! Superior product. I love this paper and the colors, the style, elegance, and versatility it commands! Gorgeous work as always. Loveliest way to spend time on Sunday afternoons is with you and Martyn! Thank you so very much! Hugs from the USA! 🩷🩷
Thanks so much, I think it's very humbling to think you watch and enjoy, I feel I am part of my subscribers day. This was problematic but you just need to keep going zinnzer bin is a brilliant product.... X
Really a beautiful piece showing the paper. One of the best decoupage vids ever. Why, because I saw scissors! I would have been ripping it all. I think I really did drink in the whole technique this time and can't wait to try this paper. Knocked it out of the park guys!!!
Yes.... Sometimes when it's not a complicated decoupage you see more and I always think every now and again.... Simple is best, although this was not simple I was ready to set it alight come week 2 ha ha ga
The papers are beautiful! Bleed thru is the absolute worst to deal with. I’ve never seen wax used by itself with a stencil. Another great tip for the arsenal. Thank you both many times over!
I agree with Marty I love the top it is just enough to tie the top into the piece without being detracting I love the effect and will definetly be trying that
Well … you did it again! Little strips for ur frame turned out awesome, Knobs look great, & Butterflies on top were just what you needed. I’m working on something with milk paint for the first time and having an issue so I totally understand it can be frustrating! I put it aside for a little while, but now it’s time to tackle it and get it finished! Thanks for sharing! Love the hair color!
So many thoughts racing through my mind... The tutorial is fantastic! It's great for beginners, but nothing for experts to sneeze at because when it all comes together, it's magnificent. I've always been drawn to your more complicated decoupage and blending projects, but this is perfect, perfect, perfect for me 'cause it doesn't scare the wits out of me 🙀. I'm so glad you had the bleed through problem. I know that sounds sadistic 😅, but if that were to happen to a beginner, it might have resulted in "tears of grief, tears of rage " That you still weren't pleased after the B.I.N. was great because of the way you fixed it! Brilliant! Loved the added butterflies. Am so glad you didn't use the corners of that stencil. It looked like a bird with glasses and Groucho Marx eyebrows. I can't stand seeing faces in furniture art. Once I see them I can't unsee them and in the end it's all I see. Drives me nuts😂. OK, questions: Instead of using the Paprika over the green molds, what would you think of gold wax, or even gold leaf, but very subtle? Would it be too much? How many sets of paper did you use for this? Had you already sealed it when you noticed the bleed through? If you had used 2 coats of BIN would it have made a difference? I've always heard that clear wax has to be used before any colored wax, but you went straight to dark. Your choice to not white wax the handles was definitely the right one. They remained almost hidden. I thought that was perfect for the paper because they didn't distract. Your eye goes directly to the butterflies. The whole tutorial was SO helpful. I wonder if you know that, true artist that you are. I will be watching it again and again. Marty, your music is always perfect for the piece, but you might have missed an opportunity here. I would have used the aria from Madam Butterfly 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Love and thanks to both of you .👍🔥💥
Lovely comment Elena Now I'm going to try and answer your questions. Yes definitely you could gold leaf your moulds it would probably have been my go to but I do that quite a lot so I thought I would do it a little differently. Yes to the gold. The BIN is due I didn't seal the top before I used the bin and I actually applied 3 coats arrrgghhh and painted to top another twice.... It has never not fixed the problem but I think the sticky vinyl they had stuck to the top pulled something out of the old varnish which kept on seeping.... Did I answer all the the questions x x
I want to start by saying that I love your soft spoken accent ❤. I am from the state of Alabama and as you can imagine I have a deep southern accent; not good 😊. I’m new to chalk paint but I do love it. My issue is getting use to the texture not being smooth. It doesn’t bother me except on the top. I’ve watched many of your videos and think I need to use more water perhaps or a different brush. I’m sorry you had the bleed through issue with this piece but it was happening to me as I watched this even though the video was two months old, I thought that was ironic. You and Martin have a wonderful relationship it seems. I love the way you laugh with each other. He reminds me of my husband that passed one year ago. He was always so encouraging as is Martin with you. 32 years of marriage was wonderful and so hard to not have him with me now. You do a wonderful Job Lel and you have been my encouragement to keep going. I did purchase some of your decoupage paper and am very excited you give it a try. Thank you for including the bumps and creative fixes in your videos. ❤

Thanks for saying about my accent, I always think I should like a growly scottish bear.. 🐻🐻🐻 Thanks so much for watching and leaving me a kind comment and also buying our decoupage paper x x x
Absolutely lovely! 🦋🦋🦋. What did they say on Friends ? PIVOT PIVOT! I think your pivot for the top by adding the butterflies and wax was perfect! If we didn’t know the struggles you had we would never know it wasn’t intentional. This paper is perfection. Well done 🤗
Great video, tomorrow my butterfly paper will be in and I’m so excited. I really like the white background. What I love about your papers, besides the designs, is that sometimes I want to decoupage part of the design onto wood and I dont have to paint white underneath the design. It gets really tough to decoupage say the butterfly cut out and alone to get the white undercoat just under the design. I hope I explained that correctly. As always I enjoyed the video and got some great tips. Have a wonderful day!
I love your hair today. Gorgeous. Where you have the white between the drawers i would have put a line of the green along the edges. Like youve done on tge edge of the doors. I love it.
Love the paper and although you didn't love the dark wax on top I think it fits, it's lovely and looks super! and so does your hair. Kissez to you both!
this piece is beautiful, wow was I surprised when you can back for the reveal and butterflies were on the top ! Actually l like it either way Thank you both
I just wasn't completely happy with the top but I knew I would get there in the end.... The butterflies on the top were a mental compromise, furniture often needs to go it's own way x
Another amazing piece. Do we love the problem child more? Decoupage may be my next exploration into furniture decorating. 😊 thanks for my Sunday morning treat. 😊
Hi ya Lel and Martyn. I bet you got a shock to hear from me being such a long while since I’ve watched your videos. I’ve recently gone back to Hairdressing and I’m just so very busy . Tuesday is my free day and trying to catch up on your videos. This piece is GORGEOUS! Such a shame with the bleed through, But being the person you are just did a Brilliant job with the top . Just ❤ the added butterflies. I’ve got a big hutch I did years ago and it has bleed through on the side which came out on the piece a week later , and I just haven’t fixed it till I saw this video. Now I’ll do something to cover it up Hopefully 🤔 I enjoyed this video Immensely 👍 I’m going to watch the other 2 videos Hopefully! Well take care guys . Oh I forgot to mention just ❤❤ the decoupage paper ❤you guys
I wondered where you were, I'm glad your okay. That's brilliant news about your job.... And I get it, it's hard to juggle everything. I'm grateful you watched us and all my love Lel x
I certainly understand being sick & tired of working on something you wish was done! I overwork my pieces and also work SO much slower than you. I agree that the India stencil on top didn't mesh with the design of this piece. I thought a butterfly stencil was needed, and it is so much better that you reworked it, even though you REALLY wanted to call it finished. Since you are not 100% with those leaf molds, what would you choose to do differently? I do love this paper and I like this piece you demonstrated today,, but don't love it.... That is very rare, since 98% of your creations I adore!. I'd like to put in a request for a future decoupage paper to be an underwater mermaid theme. Fish, shells, octopus, (etc.) and a mermaid. I loved the mermaid paper you created and used on a dresser months ago. Honestly, I'm not sure that you have had time to read through the many comments on your videos, so I'm hoping you will read this one? I do know how crazy busy you and Martyn have been, so of course, I understand that there just isn't enough time in the day to do it all. Hope this week is less stressful for you both. Always with love, Sydni
I understand sydni and I'm not offended by you not loving it. I think I understand why.... The moulds if I had to do it differently I would have chosen a different mould. I think I had committed to far into the process with the moulds I had applied so I had to continue but my faith in the piece at that point was already going slightly down hill. I think possibly doing them darker may also have helped. To me when I look at it as a whole it's not cohesive as a design.... Despite planning and multiple hours I am also not sure. I may revisit it or rework it. I was incredibly time poor trying to get everything just right for the release and maybe subconsciously I was over thinking or not in the zone. I can laugh about it now, I don't dwell on things to much and there are some pieces that come together and look exactly like I had planned, some that come together with variations... That I love and some like this that don't in my mind work as well...... But hopefully I will be back to getting it right next week. Lots of love Lel x PS can you believe it but I actually don't have a butterfly stencil...... I must rectify that. X
I’m so glad you included the “bad parts”. It happens to everyone one and you show your creativity in how you design the workaround ❤
Awww there's no point in not being honest..... Sometimes furniture goes it's own way.... You just have to try and work with it x
Thank you again for all the techniques and teaching! Love how you can pivot and create/change to achieve unique pieces of art! Thank you both!

Lots of love Lel x
PS can you believe it but I actually don't have a butterfly stencil...... I must rectify that. X
Just looking on the website. The international shipping is free if I understand? (For decoupage paper) that's amazing! 🇨🇦
We have a stockist in Canada now it's called muck about gift gallery x x
The stencil at the end was brilliant! It looks a bit raised in camera…was it raised at all?
No it wasn't raised but chalk paint is thicker and can look raised x
