    Another great video.. I'd be bored to death at work without the ability to watch these!!
    I had great success harvesting my deer this season using those 110 TTSX bullets. (There sold as Barnes VOR-TX, haven't started reloading yet, but thanks to your videos I'm gearing up to start soon.)
    Good Luck and shoot the smaller 30-50 pound piglets instead of the bigger ones.. the smaller ones roast great on the BBQ...

    Just got some of these pills myself and was concerned because I don't have any H110 but plenty of W296. Great info and can't wait to load some up for deer season. Also running a 16" barrel so this information was more than helpful.

    We had to make do with H110 and Varget, or IMR 2400. I was surprised at how well it done with Varget. I don't have my recipe books anymore or I could give you my loads. We made do with what was available. When AAC bought all the rights out they got it developed it way better than we could.

    I agree with "Brian R's" comment regarding energy. I shot the 110 gr TAC-TX for close to two years and figured I'd try the 120 gr TAC-TX. Although they are very accurate (sub-moa) like the 110 gr the bullets are heavier, slower and do not carry the energy like the 110 gr. I built my 300 BLK to be "up to" a 200 yard rifle and with the 120 gr...not going to happen. Keep up the great work. As a passionate reloader...I enjoy to see others doing the same thing I do. The only difference...I don't have video equipment. LOL

    lower 1/3rd cowitness is meant for use with irons when your dot goes down, want to be able to look over the sights and use the dot, then if it goes down, want to hunch down on the gun to use the irons in the lower 1/3rd of the optic field of view

    Just a possible option. The beauty of having co-witnessed sites is that you can set your red dot for 75 yards and then adjust your iron sites for 200. That allows you to use either one as the situation necessitates.

    I love hog hunting, favs are 44mag pisto(300gr SWC cast!!)l, 300 BLK ,6.8 and Bow!!!
    I don't use a grendel for hogs, I'm too cheap and don't want to loose my Lapua Brass. 300 BLK brass is cheap!!!!! Federal once fired 6.8 used to be cheap too, I dont mind loosing them. I've used 200 110gr blacktips on hogs, but my goto is blem 125gr Ballistic tips and 147 FMJ(shot placement rocks).
    I think I spend more on Arrows than ammo, lol Speed vs weight for me.
    I like to ambush, so a Red dot works 95% of the time for me with the BLK.
    6.8 has a 1-6, and is used in more open areas when I shoot longer ranges. Nothing wrong with a Grendel here either.
    Thanks for the videos(SWEET channel BTW), and I KNOW you'll have fun.

    Hey Johnny I don’t get all the accuracy issues people are having, I have a 10.5 inch barrel thats not expensive at all and built a pistol. Mine with h110 and 110-150 grainers gets sub moa accuracy. I dunno if its that I just got a good barrel or what but its a shooter. Its a 1/8 twist barrel and I only shoot supers at this point, I built it for the compact size and the 300 being a awesome short barrel rd.

    How would you feel about doing a video on how to get more consistant velocities from handloads...300 blackout subsonic would be my vote for caliber,but just in general would be great too....and maybe even going over just how important is it...So damn frustrating....And also I don't believe you tested any round nose subsonic's ,aside from the Maker Rex bullets..I've gotten my best accuracy and consistency from those types...thanks,great channel

    Hog hunts are fun, shoot them in the ear or right behind and you don't need expensive bullets. 125 SST's are great, even my Lee 155gr powder coated cast work well. If you want to make another trip to Texas your welcome to hog hunt on my lease.

  • @WombatAnnihilator

    old video, but when you said you got about 50 fps more than what the manufacturer listed, it could be the suppressor. Suppressors do add some velocity to bullets. It's usually not to that great of an effect (most tests show about +15fps with 300blk), but i'd wager it's a contributing factor in the increase in FPS over load data.

    I read a comment from someone (it doesn't matter who), they said not to use a red dot for hunting wild hog. I can definitely see situations where a red dot is not ideal, even careless. These situations would almost always be caused by trying to out distance the capability of a non-magnified reflex optic. I heard in this video that he plans on hunting in a location where 25-125 yards would be a very probable distance for a shot to occur. On the other hand, if the distance is greater for some reason that's where the human part comes in, you can move you're legs and get to a better/closer advantage point. Heck, use those legs you walked into the woods with to walk a bit closer. As humans and responsible hunters we owe it to our game to be responsible for each and every grain of projectile we send down range. Critical thinking is a beautiful thing. I wish you a productive hunt and a wonderful time. :)

    Great job as usual. Aside from the adventure of working up a new load, is there a reason you believe the 120 grain TacTX @ 2200FPS would be better for your hunt than the 110 grain version at roughly 2400FPS? Also, not having taken notes on your Z-max/CFE-BLK video, was the velocity of that combination also in the 2200FPS range that you're using both to zero your sights? Thanks again. Good luck on your hunt. I'll be watching your other channel for that.

    • @JohnnysReloadingBench
      @JohnnysReloadingBench  7 лет назад

      I don't think the 120 will be any better. From the ballistics calculators I looked at, the 110 still has more energy all the way out to 200 yards due to the better velocity. They are VERY close, so I think they will both be awesome performers.
      The Z-Max was going a bit faster. I would have to go back and look but I think they were about 2300-2350.

    • @TOBORE8THMAN
      @TOBORE8THMAN 7 лет назад

      FWIW - I decided on the 125 grain projectile over the 110's purely from a ballistic coefficient standpoint. Also, I quit H110/W296 in favor of Lil'Gun and load 125 grain projectiles exclusively in 300 Blackout.
      21.2 grains of Lil Gun under a 125 grain .308 flat base Sierra Matchking (#2121) chronographs 2365 fps from my Ruger Mini 14 300 Blackout 16" barrel. Vortex Sparc II Red Dot.
      Personally, I got tired of chasing my tale with bullet weights and powders and settled on one that was perfect from my rifle. I found it. Good luck.

    • @brianr6941
      @brianr6941 7 лет назад

      TOBORE8THMAN:
      I've also had success in finding some accurate Lil Gun loads, just using 110 grain Vmax's so far. And it seems to acheive slightly higher muzzel velocities than equal amounts of H110/W296. But I've read that some folks have seen accelerated barrel errosion using Lil Gun, especially with hotter loads. I also read some speculation that it was limited to pistols and maybe just revolvers. Any thoughts on the subject? Maybe an issue of mag-dump vs. precision shooting? I have a couple pounds of Lil Gun, and don't want to abandon it, but don't want to burn out my barrel either.
      BTW, 21.2 grains of powder seems right up there. Sierra's info for HP Matchking #2121 with Lil Gun only goes as far as 17.2 grains (5th edition reloading manual), but Hodgden web site lists a Nosler 125 grain BT bullet with 21.0C powder. How's your brass/primer look as it relates to pressure? Is 21.2 a compressed load? Using 2.21" COAL? What primer? Not criticizing, just trying to learn. I'm pretty new to reloading.
      Looking forward to any insight. Thanks,

    • @TOBORE8THMAN
      @TOBORE8THMAN 7 лет назад

      I cut and reform 5.56 Lake City brass for all my Blackout loads. Only downside is I've got to swag the primer pockets but...meh. Using 21.2 grains of Lil' Gun, my brass appears the same as my loads of 18.8 grains with H110/W296. Again, I'm using 125 grain bullets exclusively now. I choose CCI Magnum Small Rifle Primers #450. Primers do exhibit minor flattening but nothing to be alarmed about. The brass gets resized with my small base RCBS die set #22407 and drops in my L.E. Wilson case gauge perfectly. No signs of base bulge, primer pocket deformation or case lengthening.
      I've not heard of any adverse affects to the barrel as a result of using Lil' Gun. I've used Lil' Gun nearly as often as H110/W296 in my .357 Magnum loads with no problems whatsoever. I'll keep an eye out for any references to barrel erosion though. The only thing I've heard about W296/H110 or Lil'Gun is that with compressed loads in .357 Magnum using light bullets (125 grains), forcing cones in revolvers may begin to show some signs of cratering OR you may experience some flash cutting of the bridge of the frame above the cylinder.
      I seat the 125 grain Sierra Matchking to the same depth as the Hornady 125 grain SST's. The SST's have a bullet length of 1.040" while the MatchKings stretch out to 1.120". I use the cannelure line of the SST's as a reference point for the Matchking as the shoulder of both bullets breaks at approximately the same point, therefore, the OAL of my SST's are 2.090" and my Matchkings are 2.170". As far as compressed load goes, I'm not experiencing any extra force on my press to seat either of the bullets to the depth I use. I will say the base of the bullet is touching or lightly pressing the top of the power charge. I use a wooden dowel as a powder charge gauge. Be safe!

    • @JohnnysReloadingBench
      @JohnnysReloadingBench  7 лет назад +2

      I have never killed a hog so I have no personal experience to draw from. From the research I've done, I decided to go with the Barnes TAC-TX for deer and hogs. The 115gr Lehigh Controlled Chaos, the 125gr Hornady SST or the 125gr Nosler Ballistic Tip would be my next choices. There are people out there who report success with the vmax and the Speer TNT but I decided not to go that way.

THERE IS NO INFORMATION THAT I CAN FIND ON PROPERLY LOADING IT, IF YOU COULD GIVE ME SOME INFORMATION OR EVEN LOAD IT IN A VIDEO THAT WOULD BE GREAT. I SEEN ON HODGDON'S WEBSITE, THEY HAVE THE 115 AND 125 GR LOADINGS AND I WAS THINKING THAT GOING WITH 19 GR LIKE THE MINIMUM LOAD ON 125 THAT WOULD GET A LITTLE FASTER THAN 125 BUT JUST UNDER 115. WOULD I BE SAFE IN ASSUMING THAT AND WOULD THAT BE A SAFE LOAD TO TRY?

    Can you recommend a load similar to a 30-30 or 30-40 for large game.

      In 300 blackout? This one right here in this video. The 110 or 120 Barnes is a great option.

    It looks like the hogs just need to paint orange bullseyes on each other to stay safe.

      Have you tried a hotter load with these 120 and h110. I'm doing 18gn no signs of pressure but have not push it any more. Quick load program says still have room.

      Troy Ashby I was wondering the same. I’m loading them with 17.6g w-296 with no pressure signs and shooting right at 1 moa@ 100yds. Do you know what your velocity is with 18g?👍🏻

    I live in TX. Please do not hunt with your red dot. Use your scope, shot placement is super important on these hogs. Plus your scope will help you identify the best hog. You almost lost your one deer of this season using that red dot. I dropped 2 deer this year with the 110gr Vmax by making precise neck shots. Up to you, but leave no doubt.

      Please do not deer hunt with Vmax. They are varmint bullets designed for explosive expansion and will not always penetrate sufficiently for medium game. I've dropped many deer over the years by using appropriate bullets. Up to you, but leave no doubt.

    I feel like this guy does too much tinkering and not enough actual shooting. If you find a round that shoots well keep with it. He wasnt letting the gun settle and breathing properly. He probably would get better groups if he calmed down took a deep breath and squeazed real easy while keeping his sights on target. I shoot this round out of factory loadings and I've learned a lot from that. At 100 yards I've stacked rounds in the same hole or damn neer close with both Hornady and Remington umc supersonic rounds at 100 yards. There's no reason to get that spread other than human error.

      U do know that the portions of his videos during the shooting are edited down right? To save time while we watch? “He wasn’t letting the gun settle and breathing properly” 😳😂
