- Опубликовано: 23 сен 2021
- The theme from Doctor Who has always been a favourite of mine. I've recreated it using a mix of the 60s and 80s theme music created by Ron Grainer and Delia Derbyshire and thrown my own synth flavours in. 🎹👨⚕️🎹
Gear Used;
Moog Multimoog
Roland SH2
Arp Odyssey Mk 1

If you were trying to recreate the theme from 1980 THAT was spot on! 👏
It’s amazing how 40 year old technology still works perfectly and sounds incredible
Why does that burn into my soul like no
Other piece of
Music ever?
That one actually sounds more like the Peter Howell theme - nice synths!
I was drawing inspiration from the 80's version and the original 60's. But then all the synths I used were from the 70's :)
@@lukemillionmusic Looks like I found the perfect composer
Well the 60s version was created by recording various tones onto tape and splicing them together. No synths used.
Peter Howell theme ca1980 ( final Tom Baker season with the updated titles) would have used 70s synths.
Delia Derbyshire really takes credit for the sound though
@@spinsterpunk most of the theme composers credited Ron Grainer for the music that’s why the BBC never issue out remix stem packs for the Doctor Who theme I asked Simon Gurney the synch and licensing manager there and he said that the multitrack of the Howell theme even though Howell made the F# version of the theme, it’s up to Mark Ayres the Archivist to allow me to use such material even though some bits got leaked online which I managed to get hold of recently, it’s amazing that I can isolate many layers of the Howell theme thanks to the 5.1 the stems are mixed in the 5,1 you can cancel out ‘phase’ certain layers of the 5,1 so you can hear the melodies with less bass it’s very cool!
i would love a longer version of this!

Heard the first opening notes, instantly saved it to my playlist.
The Odyssey was amazing. I didn't find it too bright. I thought wow that sounds just like the original theme. Great stuf
Thank you 🙏
ARP Oddyssey kicks rear end 😏
It was used in the Peter Howell version!
I absolutely love the sound the harp odyssey makes. It's full of nostalgia for me. Absolutely fantastic work.
Can't get enough of this.
I also wanna have a studio full of synths like that 😃
This is absolutely fantastic, even as a doctor who fan myself I love it
There's this extension called "Transpose" , where you can tranpose everything down. And having done a 1 full-tone - it sounds pretty good! :)
I used this theme for my video, btw its absolutely amazing
Wonderful cover Luke! The Odyssey does a great portamento lead but it's too bright a "patch" for the original.. but there have been a gazillion official versions by now that this is easily as good as any of them.
Great! Delia would have loved it
just imagine Delia presented with all this kit.. she would have a field day!
You have some of the synths Peter Howell used to make his version of the theme in 1980
I love synth and chip tune. brilliant stuff
I just love the continuous deep base!
Love it.
this is really good
I spy a mighty Oberheim drum machine! 👌
It will never get old.
So far out of every fan made music this sounds closest to original work. I loved it. Just wish you had made a linger video.
So good. You are one of the few people on earth that deserves all of the wonderful gear you have, keep killing it!
Hey sweet sounds and equipment man, thanks 😊
WOW. Epic. Better than the 200 million trackpads and smartpads and whatever-pads can do these days.
Nice one! Sounds very close to the 80's theme!
Respect where respect is due. So inspiring. I can barely find middle c 😩
Nice! Peter Howell used a Yamaha CS-80 and an ARP Odyssey for the majority of the 1980s version and this is quite similar.
I think Tom Baker has a nice theme with a good aggressive bass. My favorite doctor. Its amazing that these English people made such an amazing tune. Delia came up with the wild sounds, and Ron whacked down the notes and his name :) Still I have heard out there some really nice version, with some well done samples on top.
That Odyssey sounds lush!
You've become my weekend RUclips event video, seeing and hearing your latest synths shorty cover :)
Awesome job.
Beautiful
Yes to this entire video
Nah that’s sick for real
Oh hell yeah that’s my favourite version of the theme
Thousands of apps and programs will never be able to capture the sound of true hardware.
what an amazingly perfect repoduction of an iconic theme tune, i could not pick one note or tone out of place.
Bravo 😘😘😘😘😘😘
You missed out the gnarly, sweeping, weird sound that runs in the background!
Thanks for this! Was able to use this to help recreate the synths on FL Studio
With the Middle 8. Fantastic.
AWESOME 👏
Awesome rendition fantastic
Dam you are so good.
Too many great covers.
This one will be my new ring tone
Back when Dr Who was still good ❤

Luke

Fantastic version.
Nailed it ! can we have a longer version.
Brilliant!
Excellent!
Brilliant 👏
I your rendition of DOCTOR WHO
damn, i'm addicted, i need a 10 hour Version of this
Awesome :)
reminds me of the old 80s sequence for the 4th and 5th doctors and some of the 6th
Peter Howell that what he used for the Doctor who Tom Baker / Peter Davidson / part of Collin Baker year
grainer ,derbyshire and powell...all mixed into one!!!!
That honestly sounds like Peter Howell's theme with a little Dominic Glynn in it great job awesome synths
I like it thank you
love
That's Cristal clear.brilant sounds Mr the depth is good
I love this.
This gave me goosebumps.
I love it
sick
The last instrument you used Always reminds me of 80's Zelda II The Adventure of Link Game theme
Cool, badass and slightly ethereal ;)
Excellent. Would you like a Jelly Baby?
Great.
Wow!
Yeah. That's brilliant.
Oh, that's bang on when Peter Davison took over.. happier times
❤...thats how i like my doctor. Vintage 😁👍
Absolutely amazing
So well done
Hat old equipment does it best
More!
And I'm in my happy place. Thankyou!
Man I sure would love to have that ARP.
The bassline is dangerously close to the infamous Delaware theme but overall a really cool version
Awesome, can I please use as a backing track to a guitar track I’m working on
Fantastic but you should of use the Ice Sprinkles patch from the CS-80 before the 2nd section that would of been awesome, great job dude love you r video, keep them coming! x
If only I had a CS-80!
@@lukemillionmusic The Arturia VST flavour of it is simply awesome I can highly recommend it I sadly cant afford the fantastic setup you have, keep up the good work! x
Buena cover
Got a few bits of the Bassline wrong, but overall really good!
What bits?
@@Bruh-zx2mc at Melody 2 (00:22) The bassline goes "Down, Down, Up" when it should go "Up, Down, Up", it doesn't actually ruin the theme in the slightest but i pointed it out as i've heard so many iterations of the theme that it stuck out to me lol
@@nessexceptless I see it now
@@nessexceptlessnerd
You can tell Sylvester McCoy was your Doctor ;)
Cs80 played that's what I need
@TRDSDIRIthere’s many remakes of it, the one by auturia lab sounds amazing ❤
Synthgasm and Howellasm all in one.
Also this version is intersting:

Yee infact
This is fantastic! May I use it for a short film challenge? Will of course credit you!
Boss
LOVE IT.... Dr. Who from the Tom Baker era I watched !
I'm new to playing synth as I played piano originally. I just purchased a Korg micro Synthesizer and was wondering if I could play this classic on it or would I have to buy a few different models like yourself? Love your videos
do you mind if i sample this for a remix that i can use in a video? its amazing!
Can one of those recreate all the parts?
who has written this song is a genius!!
Peter Howell wrote the original Dr Who theme song. His was the first.
@@ironmaiden5658incorrect. It was written by Ron Grainer and first realised by Delia Derbyshire. When Ron first heard the 60s version he asked "Did I write that?" to which Delia replied "Most of it."
