    I greatly appreciated this tip as I was able to take it further by parenting a null to a WWII machine gun, converting the prop to a figure, and then linking the lt/rt hands to the grip. The ERC elevates the gun while the hands now stay positioned to the grips. Thanks!

    Hi Jay, objects can have IK chains added, but they need to be in a hierarchy under a group node. You can test this by creating a group, adding some cubes (each parented to there last) and then add an IK chain. When you move the IK gizmo, all the cubes will move. Thanks for posting this vid, Daz don't seem keen to document the new features!

    • @WPguru
      @WPguru  5 лет назад

      DAZ never were 😂 I’ve tried the group approach, but I could never make the first few objects in the hierarchy move, only the last ones. The IK chain is then setup for the group as a whole, but I never saw a good use case for it. Thanks for the tip though.

    This was very helpful, thank you! But what if I want to do the opposite?
    Create a static point to which one part of the character is anchored? Like for example if I want to animate a character trying to force a door open, their hands would be fixed in one point (the doorknob) while they struggle, or if I want to animate a push-up, in which case both the tip of their feet and hands would be anchored to the floor.

    Amazing. I saw this video a long time ago but forgot its name. I've been looking for it for centuries and finally found it. I was trying to create an IK chain for both hands of the same character (holding a baseball bat) and it didn't work though. Any way to fix that?

    • @WPguru
      @WPguru  11 месяцев назад +1

      It's a classic, thank you for watching - I'm glad you've found it again 💝
      I've just tried it out, it's really easy: create IK chains on both hands, then drag them onto the object you want to use as a controller. Move the object, and the hands/arms/body moves with it. So pose the figure, put the baseball bat in place, add IK chains to each hand, then drag the IK chains onto the bat and you can move the bat.

  • @Loony_BeLuna

    I really hate to move my scene again when hands work together... because its very time consuming to move hands :( and adjusting all the fingers.

  • @Wolfirhart
    @Wolfirhart 4 года назад

    I don't know why, but this somehow does not work with non-figure objects the way you presented it... I did the rigging conversion, so it would show that little symbol you mentioned, and then i could select the bone inside the new generated group and make an IK chain with it, but if I put them into the null together, it won't work. I don't get it. Either the Genesis Model moves, or the converted obj, but it somehow doesn't move both.

    • @Wolfirhart
      @Wolfirhart 4 года назад

      Ok nvm, I figured half of my problem out (i confused "convert figure to prop" with the correct "convert prop to figure" option xD) but a new problem came up: Now that I've done it right, i can move both objects when the null ist selected. However, the Genesis part moves in the correct direction (for example it bends forward), but the converted prop rotates in the opposite direction (i.e. it bends backwards). How do i fix that? Moving both only works in the correct direction, if i use the Translate tool (so moving it in straight lines), but not with rotation...

      @@WPguru I am interested in this was well, this would go perfect for hands on a moving steering wheel for a driving character. Any luck on this front?

    • @WPguru
      @WPguru  5 лет назад

      None whatsoever :-( The trouble is that steering wheels are often rigged with a rotation slider, but they're not a separate node. As such, I've not had any luck parenting a hand to it. I guess it depends on the car model, but the ones I've tried were all unsuitable. We need something like Blender's "driver" mechanism, with which one parameter can drive another parameter on a different object (say x translation of the vehicle to y rotation on a wheel).

    • @Cain-x
      @Cain-x 5 лет назад

      @@WPguru Thanks for trying this out. I did attempt this as well and it would give the wrist some odd rotations but that's about it. There might be a way but some trial and error is needed.

      @@Cain-x Which car model did you use? Maybe we can work this out. I've been trying the Luxury Car 1950 and those variations, the Yamaki GTX and the Pickup Dred. They're all rigged the same way, no node for the steering wheel.

    How to animate mechanical gears? Like pedaling a bike or clock watch gears in motion by a single gear. One gear affects all the hierarchy of it.

    • @WPguru
      @WPguru  7 месяцев назад

      That's tricky to do in Daz Studio. Since it doesn't have a physics engine, there's no way to put two gears together and let the second one's motion be inferred by the first one's teeth. You could however setup a controller that drives both gear's rotation, so you'd have a slider that controls the movement of both (some clock models are setup that way to move the hands). You could also use keyed properties for that, would something like that work for you?
