You clearly don't know what "tourist trap" means. "Overpriced" doesn't mean tourist trap.. Belgium is expensive a those thing are not "overpriced", they are expensive..that's different.. For example that pizzeria uses fresh italian mozzarella and bufala and they have to import it everyday fresh from Italy to Belgium..

Fritland is not the favorite of locals, go just the other side of bourse building to patatak. Top frites and home made sauces and fricadelles Van dender is a great choice but you should have tried their home made chocolade mousse bar.
Not sure there is a place on this planet where you eat better on average that in Belgium. I m not talking "Cuisine" here, but what you get actually served on a plate. Italy has a great cuisine but it's very easy to end up with a shitty meal if you pick the wrong place. In Belgium it's very difficult to end up in a bad Restaurant or Food Stand. For some reason they don't seem to exist.

With your logic... kimchi you can find everywhere, as pizza, borscht, hotdogs, tandoori etc.. nothing is special. Sure you'll have eaten waffles but unless you actually had a waffle made like we do with you have no clue what the difference is between a Brussels waffle and a Liege one (and no it isn't just where they originated from but even comes down to the type of batter). Ever had Flemish meat stew, or Rabbit with prumes, Vol au vent (Belgian style) or 'tomate crevettes with Belgian grey shimp', how about Gentse waterzooi The 'cuisine' of local dishes aren't weak, but it's filling honest full flavoured food, and that is if you go the regular places and not the Michelin star places. By the way, per capita Belgium has been in the top of 5 of most Michelin stars in the world. Even something simple as fries are very easy to do wrong, as proven how most of the world does it wrong, and truth be told there are lots of places in Belgium that no longer really do it with enough finesse and attention anymore as well. All you need is good potatoes, good oil, and doing the double fry on different temperatures. Sounds easy? Should be but alas the difference between fries in the USA and Belgium is as big as the difference between Coors light beer an a Belgium Abby beer.

@@Pedro-fg6dx yeah, Tabora and Fritland are tourist traps. As a regular visitor of Brussels, I prefer Friterie Chouke near Place Saint Catherine.
