Hi Devin. You have so much flight experience in the Cabri G2 ... I always wondered about G2's power. I am a fixed-wing pilot thinking about getting a helicopter rating and I would really love to own Cabri G2 one day. However, here in the western USA, lot of the places I would like to fly are close to 5,000 feet MSL, and on a hot day the density altitude can be 7-8,000 feet ... which is too high for Cabri G2. I always wondered if the G2 had a Rotax 915is (141hp for take off and 135hp continuous up to 15'000 feet) if that would be a great pairing. The Rotax is lighter and more fuel efficient, so it may compensate for the reduced hp as sea level (compared to stock G2 160hp) but at 2,500' feet the Rotax should start outperforming the Lycoming since the Rotax is turbocharged (~3% reduction every 1,000 feet for the Lycoming?). Just day-dreaming here ... have you heard of anyone swapping G2's engine and transmission? Do you know of Guimbal is planning any updates to Cabri G2? Perhaps G4 in the future? Enjoying your channel. Cheers and safe flying!
Thanks Ondrej. The cabri in my experience has had enough power to keep up with what I need. 0-5000 feet msl is great. Especially solo. There is less power as it gets heavier. I've heard rumors of the G4 and will probably have a lycoming 540 engine similarly to the robinson r44. I think it is an incredibly well built helicopter with minimal flaws. It will fill the role of 97% of what you throw at it!
Wanna make the video better? Turn down the radio volume (or go somewhere you don't have to listen to the radio). In the bottom left corner make that a tight shot of the engine display. Thanks for your videos. BTW, got my Private in the Cabri G2... working now on my Commercial in the R-22... guess which helo I like better?
Devin, what happens if you held zero speed all the way down till touch down. Would there be enough energy in the rotors to allow the flare? Never tried it,
I also have never tried it but I think technically it would work. I think if you pulled collective at the right time you could have enough interntia to gently cushion the landing
those are pretty cool done them in 22 ,never hands free :) but i guess with 3 blades much more stable . Have u done them in the r22? What differences did u notice if any. Seems u r loving the cabri , thats great. How are doing hover autos in it with fully articulated system ?
Have done them to the ground in a 22, 44 & 206. First time was a bit unnerving as my mind was on vortex ring state, however no power so no need to have worried
Would it be safe to do a zero speed autorotation and keep it at zero speed all the way to touchdown. In other words, assuming there is only a small area exactly under you and nowhere else to glide to, can you come straight down all the way. If yes, it would nice to see a video of you doing it in the Cabri 😁
I have never practiced those but to the best of my understanding it would work. Unfortunately I cannot show a video of it because i have never done them and those are extremely risky!
@@PilotDevin I guess the hardest part would be to accurately estimate how high you are before raising the collective and slowing the descent, especially if you have few visual references 🤔. But that’s just my guess 😁
1:33 that pilot just watching a Helicopter noise dive 😂
Cabri G2 is a fantastic machine. Great video demonstrating good pilot technique. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!

Great video and explanation! Keep them coming. Also, did you buy new or rent?
Once I figure out how to hover the G2 This looks like it will be fun. How do you know when to use collective? So you don’t settle with power?
Devin, a turbine powered Cabri would be awesome. 😎
It sure would
Nice video! Good work
Thanks!

Hi Devin,
Just interested, what made you decide to get a fixed wing license
