I watched this when I was 10 years old with my Mom. The plot was so awesome! Every time I hear the opening song I think of my Mom and I miss her so much! 😢❤
If Sony were smart, they'd release all these classic gems to consumers via DVD, downloads, etc. and their profits would reflect from the demand of past, new and future Y&R watchers.
+Mr Cee I'm sure Sony has heard from the fans on the request for DVD and background music CD release, just as they've heard from the fans on the state of the show it's been for a while now.
If Jeanne Cooper hadn't been such a great actress, Katherine easily could have become a one-dimensional villain. But she always made you root for her even when she was wrong.

I read Jeanne's autobiography and before she did Y&R she guest starred on so many tv shows she maybe wasn't a household name but she had a great career and worked constantly. And then was cast as Kay and was on there for what 40 years? I mean she had a career many actors would envy. She got to do what she loved. I miss her so much! 💅

The friction between Jill and Kay was great. Neither was completely a villian; neither the hero. From one angle, Kay was sympathetic because she lost her husband to an affair with her 'friend" Jill. On the other hand, Jill was the one who made Phillip happy, loved him, and lost him forever due solely to Kay's selfishness. Through decades of their scheming and backstabbing, sometimes I rooted for Jill and sometimes for Kay. Why Y&R doesn't spend time investing in rivalries like this is beyond me. This stuff produced many, many decent plots for decades for Y&R.
@@yavvel He was talking about the state of their former marriage when she stepped on the gas pedal and took them over the side of the cliff. So yeah. It was on purpose. She denied it for a long time but when Phillip was born, she finally admitted it. And then she tried to take the baby from Jill.

I would guess that, originally, we were suppose to believe that the distraught Kay wanted to kill herself and to take Phillip to the grave with her. Once it became clear to the writers that Kay was popular with the viewers, the "suicide element" was watered-down into just being a tragic drunk driving accident. It is hard to portray someone as a "heroine" (ensuring longevity on the show) when she has intentionally killed her husband. The show has done similar things with other characters ---- Michael Baldwin and Phyllis Summers, both brought onto the show as villains. Michael sexually harassed Cricket and attempted to kill her when she complained and destroyed his career. Phyllis tried to manipulate her way into being Danny's wife, including threatening and attempting to kill folks (especially Cricket) who stood in her way. The show has significantly downplayed the bad history of both characters when it was clear they were popular with viewers.

Phyllis was framed by Diane in 2002 and had a psychotic event in jail. As for Lauren, let’s just remember Sheila. Lauren eventually apologized to Traci for all the torment she inflicted.
The crash was never filmed It goes from Kay speeding up whilst driving Phillip,to another character scene in the show,then at the end of the episode,the return is a cop on a motor cycle radioing in that a car had driven off the cliff

Jill was no innocent victim. She was the person who invented gaslighting. When she decided to gaslight Kay into thinking there was no baby, Philip was still alive, and that Kay was drinking by sending cases of booze over to the mansion. What Kay did was wrong but Jill was no innocent victim either.

There is a clip of Kate remembering it and it does not show the actual accident but her driving talking to him begging him to give her another chance and he says he has other plans and asks her to let him out of the car but she speeds up.
