Excellent recipe Geoff , I too remember these from my childhood my mother would buy us one as a very special treat from Worboys in Clay Cross I'm 63 now and the shop is still going strong. Will definitely give these a try . Thank you so much for uploading this thank goodness the first recipe failed .
HI Yanto Nemeth. Thanks very much. I think I have been in Worboys some years ago. I used to live in Chesterfield and often visited Clay Cross. I hope you enjoy making the buns.
Oh my goodness GEOFF.. THESE BRING BACK MEMORIES OF MY FIRST JOB AS A SATURDAY GIRL IN A Hairdressers in our village I WAS 14... AND NEXT DOOR WAS A BAKERS SHOP AND I WAS SENT OUT AT LUNCH TIME TO GET WHAT WE CALLED '' '' PARIS BUNS''..FOR EVERYONE... . JUST LIKE THESE.. I CAN STILL SMELL THE BAKERY SMELL IN MY MINDSEYE ... WOULD HAVE BEEN 1966... HAPPY DAYS... 🎊👍🎉🍰🎂🍞🥯🍩🍪🧁
Those look so good, I could almost taste them. I remember from my childhood always choosing a plain iced finger, but now the choice would be jam and cream.
Yum!! .... great watching you make these Geoff, I would love to have a go at making these one day too! (oh my list is getting rather long 😅👩🍳 ) you have such great recipes! Pulling them apart and revealing that soft fluffiness would be the reward for me, as-well as eating them 😋 ☕️ 🫖 love an iced bun! Thank you 🙂🌻
HI Janet. I am glad you enjoyed the video. I do hope you get to make them at some time as they are such a nice little treat. I will be making something similar, Devonshite Splits soon too, as a comparision.
Hi Kerrie. The little jug is part of a set from Oxo Good Grips, Mini measuring beaker set - 1 tsp, 1 tbsp, 2tbsp, and 4 tbsp., that fit inside each other.
HI Cozicoops. I had never heard that name, oh what a sheltered upbringing I must've had. LOL. But I looked it up and it seems that iced buns are also known as sticky willy buns, though from the photos I saw they were filled with cream.
HI Eureka Lass. Thanks very much. I am happy to report that I didn't scoff them all. I took some round to my niece. I should have mentioned that the buns can be frozen, before being iced and filled, if a batch of 12 is too many for one's circumstances.
Oh my word. You certainly know how to tease an old girl, Geoff. I bit into that bun with you. Fabulous! I expect your niece got most of those. You don't want to adopt another niece, do you?
HI Nees Argon. I did take some round to my niece, who lives 2 minutes walk away. By the time I got home her husband had sent a text message to say that he ate one as his dessert before he even ate his dinner. So I guess they were well received. I am always in the market for more nieces to deliver to.
Shame about the brownies but I think the buns might be a better choice as one really can have to much chocolate! They look so good. Thank you for sharing them. The buns look so soft. They would look very nice on a tray and I think would impress any luck one you would serve then too.
Hi Geoff, everyone says 50g sugar but i feel that it will be just a fraction sweeter than normal bread. Would it be okay if i doubled the sugar to 100g? It would be nowhere near cake sweetness which is usually 500g flour, 500g sugar but with 100g i imagine youd be able to taste sweetness in the bread itself rather than solely relying on the icing.
Hi Xbot4Life. This in an enriched dough, similar to Brioche. With just the 50g of sugar the bread will have a sweetness to it. If you wish to increase the sugar to 100g it might work, but I cannot be sure what the effect is likely to be. Just remember that sugar becomes liquid when heated so changing the amount of sugar will changed the ration of liquid to flour in the dough.
Hi Geoff, Thank's for yet another great video I've spent all day catching up on all the ones I've missed for the last few months. I also remember a favourite of mine from days gone by, The Lemon Iced bun filled with lovely yellow lemon cream! Do you remember them? One was never enough.
Hi Marshall. I am glad you enjoyed the video. I don't recall lemon iced buns, I shall have to take a look and see if I can find something. I think lemons were too exotic in my childhood, so we didn't get to try them.
@@geoffsbakingblog They were exotic in my day to John but the old bread shop over the road from our school would drive us all mad all morning with the smell of fresh bread and cakes they made so dinner and tuck shop money would be used. Ive no idea how they managed to cram so much cream into them but they were worth going hungry until
@@eurekalass I like the Bosch very much. It seems to be quieter than my Kitchen Aid. It kneads dough well, on a higher setting than the Kitchen Aid manual recommends to for that machine. I find with the Kitchen Aid, which I do like a lot, that I have to knead dough on a higher speed than is recommended, which means I am probably pushing the motor more than is good for it.
@@geoffsbakingblog Good point, don’t want it burning out before it’s time. Also, in another video of yours it appeared to reach closer to the sides of the bowl, lessening the need to scrape down so much - always a bane with the KA. I have a KA mini, all I need now it’s just me, and I love it. Your Bosch, however, did look very impressive. Thanks, Geoff, for taking the time to reply. I hope these difficult times haven’t impacted you too much. Stay well, Maureen 🙂.
@@eurekalass HI Maureen. The Bosch is very good, the movement of the attachments is different to the KA, covering more area as it rotates. I have been staying home during the current situation, so haven't been greatly impacted except that grocery shopping online for home delivery is not quite the same as doing it yourself.
Face-wiping good !! That says it all. Thanks for the video and keep them coming. Enjoy your afternoon tea and the wonderful buns.
I wiped so hard it would have eradicated my smile, if I had one.
Absolutely amazing love love love these good recipes always

HI Carl. Thanks very much.
Thank you Geoff for your recipe, the ice buns went down so well at work xx

Hi Geoff, what unbaked weight should each finger be. It says on the link 85f should that be g for grams??
Hi Justin. That's my bad typing. I will go in and change it. Yes, 85g is what it should be.
