    My dad was one of those old fashioned Baby Boomers who believed young boys should outgrow toys by a certain age. However, for GI Joe he always seemed to make an exception. Being a Vietnam veteran who got spit on by anti-war demonstrators when he returned home, I think my father appreciated a toy line that treated the military with respect. So this is why he made it a point to drive my brother and I to the store, when I was 11 years old, specifically to buy us each a GI Joe figure and small accessory. I picked out Recondo and the Mountain Howitzer and my brother picked out Rock 'N Roll and the Watch Tower. On the drive home, I remember my dad explaining to us the historical context of the Recondos. That was the last time my dad would buy us toys (after I turned 13, he actively discouraged us from owning or playing with toys), but Recondo will always hold a special place in my childhood memories because of this.

      I respect your father for all that he has done and all that he had been through but I hate it when it if someone thinks that toys and stuff like that are for children only and not for teenagers and adults. That kind of mentality is what makes life so boring and miserable. I like to think that hopefully it's going away but we still have work to do in helping people see the light.

    Fun review of an all time fave. Recondo was one of my first Joes ever bought and the real world look and feel to him always made him one of the most Sr. members of my Joe team! Yes this is what Joe was all about to me from those early days! The Military realistic figures were always the top in the toyline for me. THANKS AGAIN FOR ANOTHER AWESOME REVIEW!

    Good old Recondo was my very first Joe toy. He was wounded for a while but i replaced his broken arm with a spare Repeater's and he was back in action.

    3:04 -- Pathfinder, whose MOS was Jungle Assault Specialist, would have been his replacement on the Joe roster although that was in 1990, a good 6 years after Recondo debuted.

    Another great figure from when the line was rolling. I Kenner Star Wars was may first love and MOTU and G1 Transformers were amazing, but GI Joe from 1983-1986 is as good as it ever got.

    Nice work ...the only thing this guy was missing was a machete ...still one of the cooler figures from that year

    • @HCC788
      @HCC788  6 лет назад +6

      A machete would have been a great accessory. His 2nd version was a helicopter pilot (weird), but if they had given him a third version in the vintage line, a machete would be an essential upgrade. And a removable hat.

    I never collected any joe figs but a friend gave me Recondo figure and grew to like him, I did enjoy the cartoons as a kid. It's funny but everytime I used to go to the toy store, I would look at the box art of the Joe vehicles and notice Recondo appearing on most of them!

    This is an interesting figure. Really one of the first times they moved away from the basic military green look, but still maintaining the realistic look and feel that began to get lost later on in the line.

    This was my all time favorite joe and still is up to now( next to footloose).one day my Aunt's friend came to our house with her kids and one of them stole my recondo while i was out of the house😏.when i came back they were long gone and by then '86 or '87 recondo figures were already discontinued and i coudnt find him again in any stores.wish i could still find one today.

    Great review of a great figure. I remember getting this one at Kmart when I was a kid. The scuplt of the figure and his accessories just drew me to this figure. Recondo was one of my favorites. I wished they would have done more figures like this during the later years of Gi Joe rather than all that neon.

  • @cyberfrank-bx2nv
    @cyberfrank-bx2nv 6 лет назад +1

    Recondo was the classic look of a Joe, I used him a lot in the guard tower outpost for some reason.
    like Spirit, he stood out in a good way, the media never had time to use him at his real potential.
    I never bought any other version of him, this one was the retro 60 s look I was looking for.
    he somehow reminded me of the big Jim rhino hunt kit, probably because of his hat.
    I liked your forest pics with him at the end, they represent the essence of the Joes.
    like the advertisements, they were meant to be used outdoor, in the suburbs,
    where, ideally, every child should be raised in, I had the fortune of living that, I m very grateful.
    good show Commander!

      Recondo or Outback would lead Stalker, Gung Ho, Road Block, Flint, Footloose, Beach Head, Leatherneck and Falcon would be the rest of the team sometimes TunnelRat because he was my brothers favorite the predator was that lizard guy from Dolph Lundgren He-man movie. I didn't have Spirit as a kid. If I had them at the time would love to have added Hit n Run, Repeater, Muskrat, Spearhead, Version 2 Rock n Roll, Recoil, Pathfinder, Ambush, Maybe Heavy Duty, Big Brawler and modern Recando and Spirit.

    Great review. I have to admit, I did not get Recondo in 1984; BUT, he was the second figure I got in 1985. My transition to GI Joe and ONLY GI Joe was a rocky one, but it happened in 1985. Sure, I had a respectable collection in 1984, but in 1985 when I got Flint was when all the other toy lines stopped dead in their tracks. Recondo was my second figure of '85 because I thought I missed the boat somehow with GI Joe. Let me explain...1982- I hated the straight arm figures with the brittle fingers and thumbs- Few survived. 1983- I liked some of the new figures like Destro and swivel arm Rock N Roll, but I was still into Star Wars toys and that took some precedent. 1984- TOY EXPLOSION- (at least to me anyway)... In one year I had newly released Transformers, Go-Bots, Secret Wars, Super Powers Collection, Voltron, A-team, Advances Dungeons & Dragons, Indiana Jones, Dune, and Knight Rider toys, and still managed to get 10 action figures and 5 vehicles from the 1984 GI Joe line. For me, it was a statement in 1985 to push the other toy lines to the side to make way for GI Joe, traded and picked up the some of the first 3 series along the way, and Recondo was at the start of that trend.

    Super cool review! Not laser, not neon, not psy-fi. Recondo is one of my favorite figures ... uffff just to remember it one comes to ecstasy. Last year I bought it with all its accessories. As a child I did not have it, but several friends did, so I was able to play with him a lot. We live in a housing complex with lots of grass, plants, trees, in short ... a lot of green! Sometimes we were like 8 children playing all with G.I. Joe in the gardens. Recondo, Bazooka, Rock n'Roll, the Jeep, Tank, Motorcycle ... ALL GREEN !!!!! (as it should be!). Very good review, thank you very much for it. Simple in music and acting (not like other sooo funny) worthy of the character. More and more professionalism is being noticed. Congratulations!

    Great review! I never owned this figure growing up, but I plan to add it to my collection. I think it would've been cool to give this figure a machete that was able to be holstered in the knife sheath on his leg or on the backpack. Nonetheless, it's one of my top picks of the 1984 series, which was a good year for G.I. Joe.

    Ahhhh HCC, I agree with you. What?! I agree with you?! Oh yes. Don't let my defense of the neons and the crazy ideas of the 90s give you the wrong impression. I just intended to convey that some of those ideas weren't nearly as bad as a lot of people make them out to be. To me too, G.I. Joe is ultimately about just that. G.I. Joes, specifically jungle fighting footsoldiers. All the other stuff is just a massive bonus! As always I love your work.

    I had Recondo as a kid. I will admit I like the more garish colors and SciF and fantasy more but I also like the drab military colors too. To me the fantasy and unrealistic is what I liked as a kid. On that note the military stuff is cool too. I can like all aspects of G.I.Joe. I don't care if it's realistic just entertaining.

      Had I still been collecting Joe at the time I would have definitely added Ambush and Pathfinder to my jungle fighters!

    Great review about a great, realistic character. You had a good idea shooting this video in a wood.

    • @HCC788
      @HCC788  6 лет назад +1

      The truth: this is a wooded area in my neighborhood. I had to choose my camera angle so I didn't have houses in the background (I think you can still see one), and wait for motorcycles to pass so the engine sound didn't get picked up on camera.

    Also, the hate for the G.I. Joe of the '90's almost feels just like how violin players always seem to take a huge dump all over the viola!

    @HoodedCobraCommander788, since you're doing the review for Recondo, now would be the perfect time to ask if you've ever seen Action Figure Therapy and if you have what are your thoughts on it?

      I wondered why you referenced the Swedish K, then I remembered that's what the Tucaros carried.

    The jokes are bad!!. GI Joe has always had elements of Si-fi in the stories (cartoons and comics) Hell, that's why it was so good in the first place!!. So you're wrong for that. I'm starting to wonder about this channel!
