Mark Lanegan's solo work alone can keep you occupied for years. He's done so many features, collaborations, covers, exclusives, and rare demo tracks over the course of decades that never got any real attention and it's easy to miss a lot of it. True words fellow fan. Lanegan was an amazingly productive artist. It was one of the many things i appreciated about him. This is also one of things I've loved about mike watt of the stooges, minute man, firehose etc. fame, who came out with a solo record that was so chock full of features mark of course appeared on it singing the first song i owned with his voice, called max and wells, on watt's album ball hog or tug boat. The little comfort i have, as a fan hungry for his art, is that i still have so much lanegan to collect, and so consistent in quality as well as in consistently remaining in the constant flux of change and experimentation of sound.
Well, it really is to thank you, recently I decided to listen and get to know his work... I realized that he was one of those musicians who you know have quality but you keep leaving for various reasons. And of course, when I looked for his discography I was lost, he has done so much, as you say. Well that, thank you very much for your effort, I'm sure it will help me a lot... in fact I already know a great song just for entering here! 👌🏼😊
Thank you for compiling this list. Now that Mr. Lanegan has left us, I hope the rest of world will discover what many of us have known for decades. Seems to be what happens every time a non mainstream yet still brilliant musician and songwriter hits the dirt.
No everyone I am the biggest Mark Lanegan fan. Lol. I have been kicking an idea around. Even though he's gone could some kind of a Concert be put together showing all of the concert footage etc. Of him through the years. Also so all of his fans could be together in one place. Many would be able to share stories, but not myself I never got to meet him or see him in concert. This of course would be a paying event. Mr. Dunn is there any hope of this idea coming to fruition? I think it would be awesome. What would his wife Shelley's thoughts be on something such as this? I want to close by saying that sadly I don't think Mark had any idea of the huge love and devotion that his fans had for him. If he only knew! I really hope that Shelley would be on board for something like this. K.H.
@@kayhoehn9078 I've been wanting to put together a cover band or at least find one person that can play guitar. I'm just hoping Shelley is putting together his final recordings as we speak. And I think Mark knew how much we love him but possibly had a hard time believing he deserved it.
I was lucky enough to get to have a conversation with Skeleton Joe himself and he confirmed that there is a final Dark Mark official video coming soon. Stay tuned everyone.
@@mr.dunn222 Thank you. I will. I'm still listening to all the songs that featured Mark Lanegan, and I didn't learn about until he died. He worked with so many amazing artists. Of course, he was one of the most amazing artists himself, and we lost a great voice and heart the day he passed. In Traction he clearly knew he was going to die soon, as he stated that death was hunting The Wolf. Quite something.
@@serpentbourn138 That intro line for the music video is from his poem book Leaving California. Mark used to be involved in a lot of shady business and believed someone from his past was trying to hunt him down. So any theories made about his death are reasonable. I had conversations with Mark online and he told me about his COVID situation before he was ready to tell the rest of the world and told me to keep my mouth shut. Half a year later he released his book about it and was ready to tell the world. So if he had reached that point where he was ready, why is it so difficult to tell us his cause of death? I'm beginning to think it was something else. Mark also made it clear in Devil In A Coma that his health was declining and he would likely kill himself before he entered a miserable life in a nursing home. But he seemed pretty determined to make a come back and put out at least one more album so I also find that hard to believe. As much as I want to respect his wife's wishes of privacy, I need to know what happened to him.
@@mr.dunn222 I'm about to read his Covid book. I have been a little hesitant, because I also just kicked fentanyl, and I still have the cobwebs in my brain. It was a very dark and almost psychotic withdrawal, and I'm sure Mark had similar experiences. It will be difficult to read his suffering as I'm sure it will give me flashbacks. That ish is no joke.
I saw this show in Berlin. Probably the nigh before or after this was shot. He was absolutely focused, pitch perfect every single moment. I have never seen so many 45-65 year old cool looking people fill an event space. Everyone hung on every word. This album had been on rotation at our place since it came home on a snowy night. We opened up the floral New Order inspired cover to reveal a beautiful Jade colored vinyl record. I grew up in Seattle. My mom worked at Harborview Hospital. The album brought an entire life back to me and was the sountrack to my romance that winter. Thanks for posting.
For me, Dark Mark vs Skeleton Joe is the album that changed my life. The fact that he lived just long enough to create his best album that deep into his career seems like some unbelievable miracle. I can't wait to hear what is left to come. We are getting closer to his next project with Humanist coming out. They started mixing the album a month ago.
@@mr.dunn222 I feel the same about Bubblegum. If I could only have one album to listen to for the rest of my life, I'd be fine with Bubblegum. Pure magic, every time I listen to it. Rest in peace, Dark Mark. You are missed.
* 10/20/2023 Update* I finally got my hands on a copy of Mark's Sleevenotes book which is nearly impossible to obtain at this point and I've finally read all of his books. One key thing to take away from it is the fact that throughout each chapter he mentions different people he worked with and will keep saying things like "we put together a couple tracks" or "we recorded 10 tracks that would become this album" but when he gets to the final chapter and talks about his wife he mentions how impressed he was with her instrumentals and that it instantly inspired him to come up with vocal parts and they "recorded many songs together." I've seen people mention that there should be one more album coming but based on the way he worded things I feel like there is two or three. Most of his fans have not had access to this book so there's been a lot of questions. Unless Shelley decides to pick and choose the best tracks and cut the rest, I'm fairly confident there will be more than what people are expecting.
Oh man i hope so. It wouldn't surprise me if he had numerous albums worth of material sitting around, considering how amazingly productive he was, though wouldn't be surprised the other way, with how much he released. Miss him so much. He just always had something new that was amazing to keep me spinning his music since the day i truly go into him, and was definitely my pandemic hero, as i thought so many musicians would now maybe have time to work, but he of course was the war horse that kept pumping out art despite getting hit by covid worse than any other musician. That mfkr rose from his coma like a samurai, said be able to make on last move, even after having their head severed, and so Lanegan rose up and wrote a book of poetry and blasted out dark mark vs skeleton joe a fell back into the sleepy darkness. The work ethic alone is inspiring to me
