Though sorry that your screen was broken. It's a total bummer and it can happen to best of us. Still, for what it's worth, you did great mate!
FYI given it's Japanese those screws are probably JIS screws not phillips. JIS cross point screws are slightly different and using a phiillips screwdriver with them makes it more likely to strip the head.
looks sweet. I always loved the pocket and thought it was such a shame the color didn't have the same body. I ordered the red casing with black buttons because my friend had that OG gameboy when we were kids and I was always jealous
Got to say I always preferred the shape and size of the Pocket over the Color and that the quality was always a step down in terms of build quality. This mod actually not only solves it but makes it more modern too. May have to get one of these soon myself.
As much as I love this mod, I wish it came in a plastic version. I know it's more premium to have that aluminium finish but it's gonna be a nightmare to replace in the event something goes wrong like a bad drop. The metal adhered to the glass also seems like a questionable choice with thermal expansion being a thing, and the glass used in the Q5 laminated display has had a couple concerns over its strength.

You see, this is a cool build, if anything is the coolest. and Boxy Pixel makes excellent builds! However, as far as I know they do not mix and match the color of their aluminum pieces. He did point out the buttons but the most expensive is the screen frame, which comes with the whole shell. I can relate with the screen mishap as I did messed up the screen on my first try. So if anyone that is not a youtuber wants to do this exact same build it will be (two sets of shells, two sets of buttons, IPS screen, USB-C battery, and two touch sensors ) approx. 250 bucks without taxes and shipping. I love the product but is definitely not a cheap for this exact same build. Hopefully Boxy Pixel allows people to do mix and match in the future.
don't you love how the analog pocket puts four tiny, hard to use face buttons on it to play consoles which never used more than two?.. rather than, you know, putting on two big, easy to use buttons?
I love your videos. It’s so relaxing to watch you do tinkering with these amazing stuff. Your videos help me relax lol. Keep up the great work as always!

As much as i like the Retro NT, it's just so much more fun putting together something like that yourself with your own hands to really personalize the device. I just really don't like that whole LiPo Battery thing… i would have preferred to use standard rechargeable batteries but i guess the Screen just needs more than the 3 Volts the original GBC needed. Love the fact that now it looks like a Game Boy Pocket always wanted to be, if aluminium cases would have been just as cheap as silverpainted plastic.
On a totally unrelated note, my first iFixit kit finally showed up and I got about 13 Nintendo DS lites, 7 don’t work, about to dig into that for the first time ever.
Incredible looking, but that charging port isn't in a good position to me, it goes under your hand so humidity, sweat and dirt can easily accumulate inside.

Hiya Mr. Elliot! I have a broken system I was hoping you can fix, and there's quite a story to it... So when I graduated Pre-School, my Grandmother (who is sadly no longer with us) bought me a 2ds from target and it was possibly the BEST gift I had ever been given. I loaded hundreds of hours onto that thing, playing games like Animal Crossing New Leaf and such, but one day, my 2ds got old and started to stop accepting my cartridges, so there was only one thing to do: Buy a new one. A few years later, the same thing happened to that 2ds, so I bought myself a shiny New 2ds xl. But the New 2ds xl was WAY less sturdy than the 2ds, and one day, when I was playing Animal Crossing, it froze and I was stuck. I later tried to turn it on but only 1 light would show instead of 2 and the screen was black (no sound either). Sometimes it would turn on (rarely) but freeze after a minute or 2. This was obviously the infamous "black screen of death" of course. When I got a bit older I attempted at fixing it myself (with no idea what to do) and probably just messed it up more. The last time I checked how much I had played on that system it was over 500 hours, and I can't believe all of my work is gone. If I send you my 2ds xl to your PO box in your channel description, would you try to fix it?
