    The price in New Zealand for that model is just over 29000 Euro including 15% goods and services tax. As NZ and Australia both have free trade agreements with China, there are no tariffs on their vehicles here.
    The VW ID3 is not sold here, but the ID4 is approx 34000 Euro.

    My car, bought nearly a year ago, has the outside temperature display. Its removal was a bug introduced by a subsequent software update. The good news is there is an even more recent software update that fixes that and quite a few other things. I've just been on to my dealer to arrange to have this update applied.

    Why don’t charging cables fit in the rear hatch - where plastic trim cover is on the inside in the area directly behind the number plate but accessed from inside the boot? When hatch it opened cables immediately accessible.
    To store under the floor is daft as have to empty the boot when full.

    • @MarekDrivesENG

      I suppose that area has some reinforcement in case of rear-end collision, so not ideal for storage.

    EV tech is moving so fast that i'm not considering changing until my car is economically unviable to repair but I do like to keep up to date with the progress and MG has moved things forward. Will see what Telsa Model 2 does and next generation of ID3 possibly if they fix the controls and improve the cabin quality and power. Right now if my car died i'd probably get a used BMW 330e or a mark 7.5 Golf Gti, both lovely cars and good used buys with good mix of economy and driving joy.

    Seems reasonable enough aside from the annoying mandated assists and strong regen default. I recently discovered regen braking causes me to be profoundly motion sick. It's something I've struggled with all my life but the combination of high torque and aggressive regen is really pushing the buttons. Most EV and hybrid taxis here are set up this way.

  • @ytdood
    @ytdood 3 месяца назад +1

    MG's SW is its biggest issue, that and the dealer behaviour. You don't have the outside temperature because they didn't bother updating the damn thing. There are now multiple SW updates which drastically improved customer behaviour as well as making the lane keep assist more livable. I have the UK trophy version (believe that's luxury spec in the EU) and I definitely miss having a heat pump but I would no way in hell pay 5-7k more just to have a VW.
    Right now, keep your eye on BYD, they are rapidly coming from behind and will likely overtake many legacy manufacturers, making MG have to fight for its position even more.

    They are quite popular here in Australia. Approx $40k AUD, so very well priced. Not too sure about your comment re VW quality. My experience with VW has been that they are very unreliable. Having said that, I don't think I'd buy an MG4 either. Concerned about reliability and resale value.

    I'll keep my Mk6 Golf gti thankyou very much. 14 years old and just sailed though the MOT. Thats a cheap car. If I bought this thing I'd never recoup the savings in 10 years and stuck with joyless, souless highly depreciating car. Saying that this was a fair review well done.

      I changed my 2009 Golf GTi Mk6 for this car and I'm absolutely delighted with it! The car is giving me even more joy than the GTi did, though it's hard to explain why. The car actually seems to have *more* personality, which I wasn't really expecting. And the drive quality? Wow!
      Have you actually driven an MG4? Because if you haven't, I don't think you have much ground for declaring it joyless or soul-less. And who knows about depreciation? Only time will tell, and I don't really care, because I have every intention of keeping the MG4 as long as I kept the Golf, and any residual value by that time is gravy.
