The Captain Of Her Heart
It was way past midnight
and she still couldn't fall asleep.
This night the dream was leaving,
she'd tried so hard to keep
and with the new day's dawning
she felt it drift away,
not only for a cruise
not only for a day.
Too long ago, too long apart,
she couldn't wait another day for
the captain of her heart
As the day came up she made a start,
she stopped waiting another day for
the captain of her heart - Развлечения

In 1986, after 10 hours of flying to get from NYC to Hawaii for our honeymoon, I fell asleep in the taxi from the airport in Honolulu, and awoke to this song as the sun was setting and the sweet warm tropical air was wafting in the window. We were also passing Pearl Harbor. I said to myself then that this song is going to remind me of this moment for the rest of my life.
AEinstein i love your comment , its a lovely story, ive always adored this rather divine romantic song , its beautiful so is the guy who sings it ,, his voice is utter joy lol Jane x🌹🌹🌹

I was young, madly in love when this song came out. He was a captain, an army pilot, so handsome, but older than me. Our lives were so different and complicated but we were in love. He’d be away on missions, the long distance phone calls when he could call and the postcards, were my life line. I can remember driving home alone late at night thru the city and passing thru the veil of street lights listening to this song after being out with my girlfriends. I was absolutely in love and loyal to him but miserable because of our lives apart. The Gulf War broke out and painfully we went our separate ways; years past, we each married. He would always contact me on my birthday, ask how I was, and how my husband was doing and wish me happiness.
We didn’t see each other for over ten years. Fate and our careers had our paths cross. He had divorced and I was going through one….
We’ve been together 23 years and married 17 yrs. We’re still in love. We are happy and blessed with our life. Time is precious and we can never get those ten years back but he will always be the captain of my heart.❤

Eu tenho 60 e só ouço música dos 80s
There is something special about this song that is hard to describe. It's a feeling, a mood. Something between melancholy and happiness. Something that only this song is capable of.
The saxophone beats
Absolutely correct, I feel the same way about this song. Beautiful.
Exactly right
Exactly how I feel...glad I am not alone in that!
It's called key and chord structure.
This song is a textbook example of why the 80's and early 90's were the Golden Age of "Quiet Storm" music..

This song & "Lady In Red" were both AWFUL 😞 ... it's like something you hear in a dentist's waiting room or elevator 🏢.

Watching this video originally made me kind of sad since we'll never have this decade back again---but what makes it sadder is that the stunning grey-haired beauty in this apparently passed a while ago from cancer. What happened to music? The 80’s just gave so much artistic ability in every fashion. And romance. God I hope heaven is just this.
Pulled into the Night, though the wavelengths of her Aura.
He wanted to fill her with his absorbing look, Faith Begorrah.
She felt his energy absorb her glow, her wavelengths of light,
To him she was his source of power, with her it would be right.
They say, both of them became one last Light from a single soul,
You can still see their energy in bioluminescence, on any Irish shoal
Beautiful song
Good music is still around! You have to look, but it is there. And outside of North America some great music is still produced😊
now its easier to rapp some shit and made some techno garbage sounds without any order
People were more interested in the music than they were in the color of a person's skin or how wealthy they were.

@@andystreet4022 very true indeed.
This song was ahead of it's time. It emerged in the mid-80s with a sound which evokes the early 90s.
Heard this in college around 2001 while at a Jack in the Box. I distinctly remember laughing and thinking it was cheesy. Fast forward 20 years... I can't stop listening to it. Beautiful and captivating. I can only laugh at my younger self now.
sORRY, QUÉ ES "Jack in the Box. " ?
I always thought that one section of the piano part sounded a bit like the 80's G.I. JOE theme music.
I'm 53 and hated this cornball trash in 1988, 2008, 2018 & now!
There are certain 80’s songs that give me an overwhelmingly painful and bittersweet sense of nostalgia. This is definitely one of them.
Francois i like your comment ,i agree with you , This lovely fella brings a life of many moons ago,, good or bad memories prevail x long live the 80s era Jane xx
oh indeed, as soon as this song starts playing it takes me back to the 80s when i was living in California. its definitely a nostalgia trip
Art of Noise: moments in love, MARRS: pump up the volume, Tina Turner: we don't need another hero (mainly due to beyond thunderdome being a childhood favorite movie), Real Life: Send Me an Angel (movie RAD), Paul Young: everytime you go away, and Level 42: Lessons in Love are a few more, not to mention quite a few from Duran Duran. and quite a few more songs from movie ending credits.
Nostalgia is when the present is not on the level of the past.

The 1980's decade was the best! What a time to be young, alive, energetic and experiencing everything the 80s had to offer. Kids today, I feel badly for them. This might be one of the most underrated light rock love songs of the 80's. It didn't get the playtime that it should have back in the day.
So true! An underrated gem for sure.
Thats why they dint!
My dad always listened to this. I will always love it.
Actually, it did get exactly the right amount of airplay. I still have the same feelings about it without thinking it was grossly overplayed.
@@davidharre4722 very good point
I'm so glad I was in my 20s during the 80s. I realized only as I got older how special that time was in my life and not just because of the music, but the music was a huge part of it. Still have all my vinyl from that time in very good condition. I can't believe they survived all my apartment moves and exes in the L.A. area. Though one ex tried to make off with some of them, but got them back just in time. Luckily, they are safely in a townhome I bought about 20 years ago.
I'm 60 now and feel like I'm in my 20s again when I hear this music. I'll have that feeling forever, and I'm so grateful for that at this stage in my life.
Townhomes/Condos must of costed dirt cheap back in those days. I remember they were selling for like $60-90K during the early 90s in the (good) suburbs of Los Angeles. I was barely an adult teen back then with zero money otherwise I'd be well set today!
@@80sGuy. It depends when in the 90s you bought it. They were more expensive in the early 90s than the late 90s. But, yes, much more relatively affordable compared to today especially in the L.A. metro area which is where I live. A similar townhome in my area sold for $430,000 a few weeks ago. That is crazy. There is no way I would be able to afford that today. I'm grateful to have it today. I don't see how young people can buy a place in L.A. today. BTW, my place is a 2 story, 2 bd/2ba unit with a 2 car garage.
That was beautifully stated. Thank you.
Young, Old, Middle Aged. This decade has left memories that will be cemented forever over all the rest. Amazing
@@johnmarlow7959 True. I'm just saying that to have been in your 20s during the time this music was brand new and playing at all the clubs was amazing, but we didn't know in real time how special and historic it was until decades later.
I was in college around this time and remember seeing The Pretenders perform at a free outdoor quad area before they were really famous. This was around 1978. I was 18 years old and beginning to sneak into dance clubs all over L.A. The beginning of an amazing decade for me. I'll never forget that time and it will always be a part of me. I listen to those songs today and they immediately take me back to a specific moment in time. That is what I cherish now and so grateful to have had that experience in my 20s during the 80s.
Utterly timeless,tune
Sublime. As a teenager in the 80's I have a whole stack of records collected from the day. Many hold up, some don't through the years. This one undoubtedly does. Loved it then and loved it now just as much. The smooth melody, lyrics, tone. For me, one of the very best tracks of the 80's. A one-hit wonder from the band. And sheesh, what a killer. Thanks for uploading & thanks to Double.
A radio station in Dallas switched to a light jazz format and played this song constantly. God, what wonderful days. Such beautiful music. You can just close your eyes and these images emerge from your mind. Just magnificent.
Nice soothing tune, KTWV, the LA based smooth jazz ( at that time) would play this. They changed the format to light top 40 pop/ rock. Think it was better when they had that format, originally, for about 2 decades it was KMET, " the mighty MET".
The Dallas station was the Oasis. Loved that station, now available only online.

The great thing about the 80s was that music was pluralistic. This was on the charts with new wave, metal, dance, rock, and similar groups like Sade and later Basia and Swing out Sister. Music on the charts didn't seem to have to fit a mold.
Concordo plenamente, anos 80 deixou saudades, quando ouço essas canções bate uma nostalgia com um misto de tristeza, por saber que não teremos mais canções assim.😢

One of those songs in the 80s that came out of obscurity. Good and memorable to a degree. It was here one minute, then gone next.
Do you know why? This song was a call to Captains and tripulación to have fun every night. The intension of this pirate 🏴☠️ was/ is and will be to lit 🔥 any lonely and indefendible heart. This is a hymn for women and men that love without rules. The human being still lying to themselves. We aren’t perfect and the 70-80’s were the prove that we could love and beloved by someone else. Like David Lee Roth (Van Halen singer )said more than 40 years ago. This song brought me many memories from my teenage years when the things were wild. When everything was NORMAL
❤❤❤❤❤☮️☮️
One of my most favorite songs from the 80's. Never tire hearing it.
Paris... 80s... Pure Magic..
To me, the lyrics symbolize significant life situations occuring, while the solo piano music is a musical expression of time/life slipping past.
I was in my mid 30’s when it came out, so had the 60’s and 70’s well behind me by then. I miss that decade, had more fun than I deserved. The mix, the vocals, the instruments. 80’s music was more complex than eras before or after.
The best of the best. Who can argue with 80's music?
