My wife handles the research for our trips. But one thing I know she does is book out of season and book well in advance. Neither of us enjoy crowds, heat, or paying too much.
Hi..I’m like your wife Duke and plan all of our trips and we vacation out of season for the same reasons as y’all. Now retired we have all the time flexibility we didn’t have before…so we get some great prices.
What you say is true, the more flexible you are with grabbing a deal within 4 weeks of traveling, the greater the discounts. This is true with cruise ships. The price goes down the closer to sailing date. But then the air fare goes up the more last minute your ticket purchases are.
Thanks so much for noticing 🥳 Will , we are so thrilled to have hit 70K Subscribers today and thank you for your support this is a very special day for us .🥂🌺🏴🇨🇦
When you are retired you can travel at the last minute and get some good deals. Sometimes you can go to the airport and get some cancellations. I remember getting a good airfare deal for a one way ticket to Calgary in the summer of 2007 when I came over looking for a job. I don't know how I got through customs with a one way ticket but I did. I just told the customs officer that I was staying with friends in Okotoks and was probably staying for 1 to 2 months but I may have to return sooner to England. I was offered a job after 18 days despite not having my permanent residency processed. The company managed to get me a work visa until my PR came through. I did some trips to the mountains and came back after staying for 25 days. I just kept my eyes open for deals and managed to get a one way flight back to London for $99. I have now been with that company for 16 years and plan to retire in my 22nd year.
I'm about 5 years away from retirement and my husband and I are having health issues. We have quite a bit of vacation pay built up so we're looking at traveling while we can enjoy it. Your vacation and retirement tips are very helpful so thank you for all of your informative and thoughtful RUclips posts.
Perhaps it might be an idea for you to travel now especially as you have pay saved up , don’t leave it in case you might not be of the health to do it Cheers 🌺🙂
We've used Vacations to Go for cruise deals. We just went to a Greece and turkey cruise at $1710. For both of us. We've used them several times. Also Gate One Travel We've traveled to our now home in Portugal and had the best Christmas cruise with them.
Another really useful video. I like your systematic approach. I have just bagged a bargain myself. A return flight from London to Zadar, Croatia in June for £36. Ok it is Ryanair so not exactly luxury but still a great price 😀
For Canadians especially, a channel 'Prince of Travel is good for deals and hacks. I first watched Ricky's videos when he had less than 700 subscribers and time to give detailed answers to individual emails 🙂
Great vid guys. Still trawling through the offers with cruise lines, nothing too cheap when you add the single supplement, but I'll keep trying. Thx for the heads up. Keep up the good work. 👍 😊
I’d suggest registering with Air North the Yukon’s airline. They fly from Ontario. They are a top rated airline and provide the best service. Meal and their famous cookie. Come see the Yukon and Skagway, Alaska’s narrow gauge railway is nearby. There’s RV rentals, music festivals, Dawson City. Lots of history in the Yukon.
I think you've hit it on the head: the main advantage to travel in retirement is the ability to travel when others don't or need more lead time. Travel in the off-season, shoulder season, travel at a moment's notice, or travel to less well travelled destinations can all lead to huge savings. It becomes more difficult when you want to do family vacations and the younger folk are still working or have to provide months of notice to be away. And then there are other obligations like being a caregiver to someone else or even arrangements for pets or house sitting. It's not just the deals that make this work - it's how you manage all the other life circumstances too. And as others have stated, the specialty tours for those over 55 are often good sources for bargains and experiences.
I would like to mention "Road Scholars" for tours targeted for the "Over 55" crowd. Prices are quite competitive and the experience is appropriate for older tourists.
Lots of great information, thank you Tina and Norm. Looking forward to travelling again after my husband gets his hip replacement. Now I just have to be patient. ❤️🇨🇦
Thanks and thumbs are up 👍👍 Air transat has always been our air travel. We do not like off season travel as we like to have some life to where we are going too but agree to less cost. Research is def the key to success. Took me more than a year to find reasonable rent in Florida. Right now we are enjoying this beautiful weather and walks on the beach. I guess you are off to your trailer...ENJOY ❤❤❤
Sounds great! we will be opening up the trailer soon , we were waiting for the rain ☔️ to stop 😂, now we have heat 🥵we are enjoying Niagara Falls Cheers 🍻🙂🍷
Another solid video, guys. As always! Now I know you didn't get a cheap deal on that first class flight to Faro. Has Norm gotten over that one yet? Lol! 😉
I’ve been watching you for just over a month now and find your videos very interesting and helpful. Glad you don’t swoosh your camera when on a trip like how some video people do, makes one dizzy and I don’t like all the flash stuff people use. Just want content, interesting scenery views and clear explanations. Keep doing as you do. From a Brit born, Los Angeles raised, now returned to UK to live my retirement years gal.
We just returned from our trip on the Canadian. Almost everyone said they chose that week because it was the last week before the price increase. Could I get the link for the app you recommended for purchasing phone plans in other countries. We are in the US.

Yukon. Not the Yukon.
That’s an ongoing debate in the Yukon. LOL!

My husband is English. We are in the US and in our 50s. Which UK city do you call home for your retirement? My favorite UK city is York. :)
Welcome aboard! so glad you like our channel and videos Cheers 🌺🙂🍷
This!thanks,how professional traveling! 📢
Our pleasure! 🍷🍻🌺
Norm how did you continue to succeed on your diet while on a 16 day cruise??!!!😅 Congrats!
Discipline 😂
We just returned from our trip on the Canadian. Almost everyone said they chose that week because it was the last week before the price increase. Could I get the link for the app you recommended for purchasing phone plans in other countries. We are in the US.
saily.com/ourretirement hope you enjoyed your train 🚂 trip 🇺🇸🙂🇨🇦
Relocation ships are good 👍
Booking a long time ahead NOT last minute.
We also now use Trustedhousitters instead of Airbnb ….
Thanks for the tips! only thing about that is they all have pets , we would easily do a house sitting job if there were no pets 🌺🙂
@@ThisIsOurRetirement try MindAHome instead …
Took a look they all seem to have pets too ! 🙂
Look into traveling on your own …. Make your own arrangements instead of a tour.
We think there is room for both , we do lots of trips ourselves but do like it when it’s all taken care of Cheers 🍻🙂
Norm, are you well?
Never felt better 👍🍻
Can’t stand vacation packages or charter flights. I want a vacation to enjoy my trip, not to suffer.
A la carte is good!
✌
Thanks for watching 🙂
@@ThisIsOurRetirement it's always been a pleasure.
Great information as always!
No rock band tee? Must be a very serious video this week.
Just having a change Cheers 🍻
This is Norm's idea of formalwear.
Great tips, thanks for the video.
Glad it was helpful Carol!
