Muzzammil Shaik - I made a decision to stop my physical collection of MCU movies at Phase 3's end. Now Disney+ released exclusive deleted scenes from Endgame that were not on Blu Ray. With that said, to keep physical media "alive", should Disney incentivize based on exclusive content that the physical could provide vs. Disney+? Thanks and I have spoken!

I know this whole thing is inevitable but I'm surprised you people are so positive about this. You will never own that stuff. Disney can wake up and decide to remove content and you have no control over that. You have too much faith in a corporation. With physical media, I actually own my blurays and Disney can't come to my house to take them and Disney can't jack up the price of what I own. If I went jobless today, I still have my stuff. How will you keep paying for it if you can't afford to anymore or if Disney jacks up the price?
Subscription is not consumer friendly. It's inevitable but I am baffled by your positivity.

"You will never own that stuff". I mean you said it yourself. It's Disney's to own because it's their product, they made it. Just like Netflix originals, it's theirs to decide how long you'll be able to consume it until they provide something else to put on their platform. You can't buy all the Netflix original shows and movies on DVD so it's basically the same thing. They just decide how long you'll be able to consume it.

It's sad to see people fail to understand this. For the price of one bluray disk, you can get a whole month of Disney+! The content is getting democratized for more people, before the only way you would get to watch 100s of movies is if you were rich, literally no one could watch the amount of content we watch now. Today all you need is 7 dollars per month to enjoy one of the most vast libraries of content in the whole world. So you make the choice, buy a couple of movies to rewatch hundreds of times until you have money to buy more or pay the price of one physical disk per month to have more content than you could ever physically own or buy.

@Rob Hunter Something to consider, is the fact that a lot of people watch TV shows. And the combination of TV Channels for shows and BluRay's for movies is becoming less the norm, each year, because streaming services are becoming more and more appealing to most people, compared to classic Television.
I mean, how expensive is it to own entire seasons on BluRay? Streaming services cover both movies and shows, for an price that physical media can't be compared with. And for the high quality shows produced by Netflix, Disney+, etc. there is no alternative in most cases.

People will soon see that it cheaper to just buy the physical copy. Plus, physical media will always have better video quality. 4k streaming isn't true 4k, it's compressed and upscalled 4k. So in high action scenes, they will appear more compressed.

What I hate about these digital services is you throw money away down an endless pit for years and years and you own nothing, and end up only caring about a small % of the content offered. I hate that. Demand for Physical media will never die completely because People like to own things.

Nah. There will always be people who want to have a physical copy of a film.
Why? You pay a one time fee and you actually OWN the movie. No WiFi connection needed to watch it. No chance of them going away from a platform.

This may be a personal thing, but I view most of my entertainment viewing as "committed experiences." I don't see the point of paying for something that I can't technically possess. When I buy physical media, it then becomes MINE. When I buy Disney+, I have access to the service, but the corporation has my butt from then on. I don't feel like I fall into the main crowd that seems to be all over these services. Menus, disc artwork, steelbooks, digibooks, and lossless audio will always intrigue me more than instantaneous clicks. It works for RUclips, doesn't work for movies.
And yeah... I am going to be holding onto my previously purchased media as long as possible, especially in today's economy.

I am recently really going out to discover great international movies and none of that stuff is on Netflix or Disney+.
"November", "Hausu", "Spirits of the Airs, Gremlins of the Clouds", "Institute Benjamenta, Or This Dream One Calls Human Life" to name a few or old favorites of mine like "Dogville", "Der Himmel ueber Berlin", "Julien Donkey-Boy".
On Netflix and Amazon the-stuff always changes.
On Disney+ you have only Disney stuff.
I ain't gonna subscribe to 5 streaming services.
Also If I do not own stuff like "il grande silenzio" or "Aguirre, der Zorn Gottes" I probably can't watch it at all.

Neither of you mentioned that a subscription service means that you'll be paying infinitely for something you'll never actually own. Sure Disney+ has everything, sure there's probably always going to be a reason to keep the service going month to month (you can't say this about all studios though, and would you want to have to subscribe to every studio you currently buy blu rays from?). But what if you want to break off some of your monthly outgoings, or have a big purchase to save up for? If you cancelled your subscription for a few months, there goes access to all that content. At least with physical media you can turn back to a purchase you made in the past without having to keep forking out for it. In fact you can actually sell it and get some of your money back!
Don't forget they can remove or edit something at any time.
Digital content is ephemeral. Just in the last few years, I've lost access to my digital copy services Disney Movies Anywhere, UltraViolet and now Flixster. Nothing streamable is permanent...

Hell no that physical media would go away anytime soon despite the rise of rival streaming services because as what we have seen with UltraViolet and Playstation Vue, there is absolutely no guarantee that these services will be around indefinitely and any of them could just shut down at any given moment and therefore, lose access to any movie and TV show you're interested in and from what we have seen with studios pulling all of their stuff out of Netflix, nothing is stopping the studios from pulling them out at anytime or make any unnecessary edits and there is always that lingering feeling that you really don't actually own any of these titles at all.
Plus, with the news going around that Netflix is in very serious debt and yet still want to make more original movies and shows, I really question how long that service will be around much longer before it inevitably files for bankruptcy and shut down if they don't find a way to lower their debt and all of the original movies and shows under it that is not tied to other studios will remain in limbo. Not to mention that shared with other growing rival streaming services, if you don't sacrifice some of those streaming services that you don't need anymore, inevitably, the growing prices from all of them in the future would likely take a huge chunk out of your monthly budget.
Once again, the advantage of having physical media is that once when you buy something, it is yours forever for as long as you want it and with just a one time payment, you don't need to pay for it again unlike streaming services where they would want to have you in their pockets indefinitely until you can't anymore. I will definitely want to stick to physical for as long as it can still keep on going and judging by the comments here, I am definitely not alone.

If I bought it as a DVD or Blu-ray, I'm getting some money back if I decide I don't want it anymore. I can't do that with a digital movie.

Blu Ray sales have declined because the costs have skyrocketed, and the fact that they are delayed by weeks after digital. I bought Toy story 1-2 and 3 for $13-$15 on release day. Toy Story 4 1080P Blu Ray was $23-25, and $30-35 for 4k on release week.

I’m sure there are a lot of people like me. I can’t imagine going into a Walmart without a section of films, but if that day does come, I hope that studios at least just limit the amount of copies produced for new releases and that limited copies are still at least available to order online.

The lag and interrupted connection is what kills me. I've been to many friends houses around my state and it's always a problem over the years. The movies and shows dont always stay on the service either. That take some away and add others. The picture quality isnt really 4K either like a true 4K disc. But the main thing is internet connection is what kills me. I dont want my movie going from 4K to scrambled pixels at random. Ruins the whole movie going experience and I'm sorry thatll never change.

Disney has Disney Movie Club. They have a feature title every month you sometimes can't get anymore. And offers discounts. So Disney isn't trying to get rid of physical media. I want to buy my favorite movies on Blu Ray for the quality that's a hundred times better than streaming. And I like the behind the scenes like the commentary that the director and cast gives. You can't get those with a streaming service. And as long as there are people like the flick pick, Chris Stuckmann, Films at home and myself who care about how you should watch it. It won't be going away anytime soon

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if the current steaming world hasn’t already destroyed physical media why should we believe Disney+ will? It’s not like they own every single movie on the planet so there’ll still be a reason to go and buy those on Blu Ray/DVD, the fact of the matter is that streaming services are never gonna be able to have every movie on the face of the Earth on them, just like any business it’s impossible for 1 company to completely corner the market and provide costumers with everything, there’s always gonna be competitors who have something you don’t, that’s why McDonalds isn’t the only fast food restaurant in existence, or Seven Eleven isn’t the only gas station in existence, because they can’t provide customers with every single thing associated with their line of business, and as long as movies made by people Disney doesn’t own keep being made there’ll always be a reason for physical media
