      @nicholasharron3325 not at all. Apps like Goodiez can live in harmony with local game stores because they offer users another option to find some things that aren't available locally.

    Resellers artificially raising the prices way above value. Future gamers play digital & us collectors don’t want to spend outrageous prices. I ask myself all the time “do I really need this?” No not at that price.

      Yes and no. Depends on the IP's. With Pokemon especially, yes, this is a great example of artificial over-inflation due to simple popularity. They love taking advantage of it with Pokemon.
      Then again I've also seen some games barely sell for 5 or 10 bucks from older gen consoles.

    People don’t want to spend over market price, especially when it a crazy amount over. For example that Lufia II on snes cib was marked at $450 but it’s only worth 300 on average and sure the condition might be good but still way over priced. On top of that you know in the back of your mind they only payed the people 40-50% of market value for that. It’s just overall not become worth it.

      i went into a local store to buy a new copy of Ocarina of Time. (I lent mine out and it didn't come back.) They were asking $45 at a time when it was going for $30 everywhere else. They're rationale was, "Because it's very popular." So you have three copies of a "very popular game" on your shelves? Needless to say, they're not in business anymore.

    • @jeffhaire1984

      @@pigs18 unfortunately price gouging has become a big issue within the gaming community.

    • @pigs18
      @pigs18 24 дня назад +1

      @@jeffhaire1984 I don't think it's price gouging so much as many people get into business without understanding the basics of supply and demand. Yes, it's a popular game, but they made over four million copies of it.
      Secondly, a lot of people don't understand that the price they paid for something has *zero* impact on its current worth. We saw this when everyone was trying to dump their old CRT entertainment centers. It wasn't uncommon to see Craigslist posts that said something like, "I paid $300 for this so I'd like to get $100." Dude, no one wants a box for a 4:3 25-inch TV. Put it by the curb on trash day.

    When games start out pricing their original new price, it’s no longer gamers but collectors buying. And there is way less collectors than gamers so retro prices out price themselves to buyers and collectors up the pricing quickly on rarer and more sought after games so it eventually out prices even its collectors go a limited few. Looking at all these retro game shops and online, the market is oversaturated at the price point the games sell for, especially when I walk in and see some categories with full shelves and others having little, shops need to start addressing supply and demand rather than market price. It will eventually even out and business savvy games shops will survive while those only init for money hopefully just close due to not being as profitable anymore.

    I think the market for retro gaming is growing and growing due to modern day consoles and games being “mostly” style over substance.
    My PS4 died on me 8 months ago. Friends were pushing me to invest in a PS5, but after seeing the games out on PS5, I decided to go back to a PS3 and a SNES instead. The games are just so much more fun. And allow for a 20 minute gaming session, unlike the PS4/5 where 20 minutes barely boots the system up and download an update.

    • @georgexander7170
      @georgexander7170 24 дня назад

      So you're unfairly lumping the ps5 into the issues you have with the ps4.
      The ps5 has the fastest boot and load times. Faster than any consumer PC with all the best parts.
      And the WiFi chip in the ps5 takes huge advantage of your internet speed so games will download as fast as your wifi will allow usually.
      Definitely grab a ps5 if you want to get back into ps4 gaming.

    • @pescustomfaces7094
      @pescustomfaces7094 24 дня назад

      Thanks, but no thanks.
      As I merely mentioned, a 20 minute gaming session is all I can find time for nowadays. And as previously mentioned, I’m still certain that a 20gb download still takes 20 mins after the installation too.
      Most modern day PS4 / 5 games have no real end to them. Back in the 90’s, I believe the majority of Game Start to Game Completion timeframe was 2 hours. Which was fine on a wintery rainy day. GTA 5… 11 Years!

    • @georgexander7170
      @georgexander7170 24 дня назад

      @@pescustomfaces7094
      You don't have to justify your purchase to me by making stuff up saying it takes 10 years to beat gta or that 90s games are great because they can be beaten in 2 hours.
      If you're trying to win some kind of e-debate then you are certainly going to lose this topic.
      This is the JRPGLife channel and I don't think there is a single JRPG released in the 90s that is less than 10 hours of play time.
      Pick up and play isn't possible on modern consoles? Let's use your GTA 5 example. On YT there are walkthroughs of every single mission where they 100% gold passed them all. Each one under 20 minutes, most under 12.
      And for the record GTA 5 came out on PS3, the console you just bought to get away from this game you couldn't beat for 11 year...
      This all stemmed from me saying if you ever want to get back into ps4 gaming, get a ps5. As all the issues you had with the ps4 are not there. Next time say thank you and move on.

    He does have a lot of rare games, but also a lot of filler and just a bit of everything. It's certainly quite a store. I've always been a HUGE supporter of "Follow your passions". Even if that is with the gaming community. I even contemplated opening my own game store after I finished my college years, but sadly, my area just doesn't have the cliental for the business. I would've had to go strictly online to make any profit. I wanted a game store were people physically come in and not only play and buy video games, I also wanted my store to be partly dedicated to table top stuff like Magic or D & D.
    Alas, life doesn't always work out like we hope. But for those who manage to pull it off then God bless! I love that all of these non-corporate gaming stores are killing it with the gaming markets.

    Have said it before and I say it again, Stores are closing because opening and keeping them open is expensive. And these days when everyone and their grandmother buys digitaly they are even more expensive in order to be able to compete. Remember the days when you had to go to a gamestore to buy a game, be it console or PC? I miss those days very much.
    That Atari Lynx there, it was about the price I paid for mine around christmas, but then I got a Charger, the official Atari Lynx "Link Cable" an official Bag and 16 games to go with it as well.

    A holes charging higher than ebay prices. Non gamers opening stores with no knowledge of the product. A bad attitude toward customers because they aren't actually nerd. Hiring cute woman that know nothing about gaming. Only offering the same 20 percent that every chain store gives, after complaint about those exact figures for years. Weird hours because they still have a regular job, and no employees. I could go on for days. All I know is I save money so that evey time one of these places closes down, I actually get decent prices.

    Some kid in California has to have the business smart to line that business deal up, they would profit big time, I promise, make it a shop where you can get a kick ass video game and a few joint or something and bad business will thrive, I promise, I can't do it but the idea is out there, please take this comment seriously

    Title says "everywhere" but it really means in america.
    Japanese game stores thrive, here in the UK we have many too.
    Sure americans come in from time to time, buy out anything they think they can flip for "a quick buck" and ruin collecting for the rest of us, but the digital only, always online mindset is strictly an american one. Physical copies are always welcome elsewhere.

    • @BlueEyedVibeChecker
      @BlueEyedVibeChecker 24 дня назад

      I should add, I'm not a collector for the sake of hogging things up, I'm a collector who likes to play the games I buy.
      You should never fork out 10× the price for a "sealed" copy or from opportunistic nobodies online. PS5 and Xbox Series X scalpers learned the hard way when the consoles came back in stock, teach them that same lesson enough times and they'll stop.

  • @LoneAries77
    @LoneAries77 24 дня назад

    You can't charge those insane prices and expect rational hard working people to pay that. It Just doesn't work n today's economy especially when emulation is free. If retro gaming was actually affordable, as it once was, it would be more successful. But it's a big screw you to gamers when your getting ripped off by fellow gamers. So no. Everyone cries about staying with physical media. Yet at those prices, no one is going to pay double or more when digital sales are way cheaper with time. Physical goes up, digital comes down. We don't all have an endless cash flow. I saw physical limited games going for 40 bucks, yet the indie game digital sale price was like 4.99. Y'all high? I'm buying the 4.99 on sale version.

      That’s where I’m at. I had recently rediscovered a love of my 3DS and decided to start getting some of the games I skipped out on in the past. The prices were sobering. I’m buying to play and not for resale. So it’s just nasty stuff.

    They're closing because most of them jack the prices up waaaay too high. Y'all are LUCKY to have the stores you have around you. The ones around me (California) have absolutely no respect for customers and don't give a shit about anything but making money. Perfect example is a Utopia game store near me selling Banjo Kazooie for 140$, and the clerk telling me they know it's only worth $20 and don't give a shit. "someone out there is stupid enough to buy it" is what I was told. Lmao local game stores are honestly a joke and should be avoided, ESPECIALLY in California.
    I still think the #1 people to blame for all of this are resellers, much like Retro Rick and Phoenix Resale. They're the ones buying up everything and selling it for more. Stores see this, and think they can do the same, and do. it's all a disgusting practice that NEEDS to stop, but probably never will.

      @JRPGLife  24 дня назад

      These stores featured in the video are both in the Los Angeles area, and their prices were very fair. 🙂
