Actually Greta was not there that often. It was basically bought for her family and for her brother to manage (it was a working farm.) He wasn't that successful at it. Also, with the outbreak of WWII, her mother, brother and his wife and young niece all moved to American and they never returned to Sweden to live. It was put up for sale in 1947 according the to the highly research bio by Karen Swenson. But it is a cool video to see. It was her home in Sweden during her heyday.
Wow, beautiful! I would have bought this, if I were Greta Garbo! You can just imagine her sitting by the water or in the garden, all by herself, reading a good book, can't you?
Nonsense. She hardly set foot there. She bought it while in the States for some future life that she never lived. Her mother and brother (and his family) moved in brielfy but it was already about 1937 and they would soon leave Hårby and head across the Atlantic as the war approached. GG only visited once, as far as I can tell, at the end of 1937. Hårby stood empty until it was eventually sold.
Sweden is very beautful and much of it is isolated much like the northern Great Lakes region of the US. I hv been told by many swedes that they chose the northern midwestern US for immigration because of similarities of climate & topography to their beloved Sweden. My home in the northern midwest was settled by Swedes in the 1850's.Many here speak Swedish.
situated in mid-sweden a bit southwest of stockholm - the region is full of castles amd smaller mansions like this one. Tha landscape is soft and lovely - I think it was given or sold to her by her friends count and -ess wachtmeister- , grand land-owners in the region. their place was called Tistad
South of Stockholm about 200 miles. Town of Harby in Kalmar section. Idk if Kalmar is like US state counties or what it exactly means but it is a listed reference point to Harby.

Such a classically beautiful estate.
What a magical place.
I wanted to be a piece of stone there in the summer of 1988.

Hur kan det påstås att hon var där '88? Sista gången hon var här i Sverige var '75.
And apart from one visit in late 1937 she never set foot in Hårby.
