This is the way Garbo's apartment looked when her niece, Grey Reisfield, sold it in 2017. All of Garbo's original artwork had been sold at auction after her death in 1990, so many of the formerly art-covered walls are bare in the video, but the apartment basically looks the same. It's certainly lovely -- even breathtaking -- and expansive.
Her Apartment was a work of art. She took many years to develop it . It was her occupation for all those years in which she was not performing. Her home shows what a great artist she was...
Lena pires - Garbo’s family is as wonderful as the magnificent home Garbo created. Good people. The terrific new owner is going to be a perfect shepherd for this rare beauty.
The coop that runs the building would have never allowed it. They even only allowed tenants that can move in who don’t have mortgages in the apartments, so basically you can only move there if you have all the money that it costs, no loans or anything.
Fascinating. I agree with you Brian that bedroom with the twin beds in my favorite room too. I imagine she spent most of her time in that living room looking out over the river. The color patterns are not particularly pleasing to me but the pine throughout is surely a treasure. LOL, even for a wealthy owner in a NYC apartment, that kitchen isn't all that big. Was there not a study, office you didn't include along the main hallway near the entrance door? I wonder how often her neighbors ran into her in the elevator or did she often go out by taking the five flights of stairs to elude people? Congratulations on a real treat of getting into her home. I had read somewhere she was rather skittish going out until she felt more comfortable if she sensed the press wasn't lurking somewhere. As you know from living in NYC, we're not really impressed, or, we give famous people their space when we see them about the city.
@Jackie Striegel John Lennon got shot at the ornate gate at The Dakota on West 72ND Street and Central Park West on the other side of town in December, 1980.
Her niece sold the apartment a number of years ago. I had read her and her husband had lived in Garbo's apt for a few years then retired to the west coast.
It should be made a national historic museum.

@Time4Clocksmeh, come on!! It's all books about Garbo. She had a totally different book collection than what we see here...
Beautiful, peaceful, homey, wonderful views. I would have moved in with everything just as it was.
She had a good sense of art and quality

Some yuppie will want to turn it into an Ikea nightmare...
It should have been a Greta Garbo museum!!

It's like getting in touch with HER. THANKS!
I wonder if new owners changed it much.
I sure wish that I was rich! :'( I'd buy it in a heartbeat!
Greta Garbo having dinner parties there! Lol...She never entertained. True Nordic woman. Extremely private.
She would sometimes have a couple of friends over for drinks, and family would visit too.
Yep, she was a very private woman.
When I heard Dinner Parties, I knew they knew nothing about her!
@@TheZman210 Exactly! 😂.
Who ended up buying it? Hopefully it wasn't remodeled or subdivided.
it feels like these people are intruding her space.
I thought her niece was keeping the apartment the way it was when Garbo was living in it as a memory of her aunt ?

The price 5.5 million was very low ,
I wonder why ?
Hi. This one got a huge bidding war and ended up commanding over $8M!!!
the Modigliani must be worth $100million
The only downside, she was forced to look at Brooklyn all day...
I read somewhere she got this apartment mainly because of the harbor which reminded her of Sweden.
Schmitty, actually, her view is mostly of the Borough of Queens.
I suddenly have an odd fear that real estate agents must have hookups in the apartments they have keys to.
Diese Frau hatte Styl.
Very cool
You know whoever bought it tore down and everything and made it another boring modern apartment.
Didn't she date Justin Bieber?
Yes
She died in 1990.
No, it was Justin Timberlake.
