I've loved Yugioh since it's inception, but really, the series just doesn't want to be made for someone like me anymore. Growing old sucks.

What killed Yu-Gi-Oh for me was the insane power creep. Most duels are over in 3 or 4 turns now and you have to pack extremely specific counters for everything. And don't even get me started on hand traps. I liked it way better when there was a bit of a back and forth. This started I think around GX times but REALLY picked up toward the end of 5Ds and Zexal
Ah, another boomer comment, how original.
@@underpressure1954 You don't think power creep is a problem? Even the hardcore competitive tubers seem to think its an issue. I guess it doesn't matter as much if you don't play to win. But even casual decks can feel like you or your opponent are playing solitaire sometimes.
Go to Sevens, then. _Much_ better about the "exchanging blows" type of play.
@@christopherb501 Nah from what I've seen that's too far lol Looks like they just broke the game duelist kingdom style.
@@Alex_Barbosa well well well, most duels can go +5 turns now, most of staples hits every deck, hand trap just added interaction, there's much more back and forth right now than during DM who was basically chess but with only pawns.

@@mysteryperson1958 Except... You just proved why it IS gambling: You're spending money so you can earn more than what you paid for. Yugioh zexal is kinda underrated. The barians were actually great villains, particularly Vector. And who can forget Dio's voice actor summoning ZA WARUDO in GX?
Sartorius's Japanese VA summoned ZA WARUDO in Jojo's, not the other way around. I don't think it was any coincidence that he was cast as DIO.
BTW, both Japanese DIO and Frieza are in the Japanese dub of PSO2 Episode 4 (the Japanese dub is available in the North American version) but I'm not sure about the English dub yet as apparently we don't have the full story mode for Episode 4 yet and thus, no end credits but in the English version, Hagito (voiced by Demyx in Japanese) sounds more like Frieza than Bethor (the one who is voiced by Frieza in Japanese) while Bethor sounds more exactly how you'd expect a scumbag Hollywood director to sound.
No Zexal fucking sucks.
@Beauty Oliver You know you're doing something wrong when your main character sounds like how Duel Monsters purist LittleKuriboh made Jaden Yuki sound out of pure contempt for GX.
@Beauty Oliver I'm agreeing with you, obviously...
zexal 🥰
I think that while this show seems more kid friendly then ever, I don’t think that it’s getting more complicated anymore. Konami has given up on links being necessary since the master rule 5 or master rule 4 revision where you can summon any monsters (other than links and pendulums) in any monster zone.
MangaKamen I didn’t mean to exclude that. I probably should have explained it better.
It balanced Pendulum and Link, at least.
Well, there are more simplified formats, like Rush duels or speed duels. It's way less text heavy and more straight-forward.
The Sevens anime is shaping up to be pretty good with just 13 episodes.
Damn I don’t want to spoil it but.....Maximum Summoning. So much for no more power creep...
Tbh, I honestly forgot Sevens was even a thing. I haven't been actively playing or watching since the GX era.
I stopped watching Yugioh after GX but Sevens has actually gotten me back Into Yugioh and I'm really enjoying it.
I stopped after Zexal I’m starting to get back into it
I think a lot of us fell off after GX
Everything after battle city isn't worth watching
Yu gi oh zexal was a wrapped for me
Yuma is a very underrated protagonist in my eyes. he got me into yugioh when I was little and I would start playing it with my cousin because of him. It helped a lot that he was framed in the show's narrative as a Nobie and I found that very relatable because I would constantly lose to my cousin and Yuma taught me that losing comes naturally and to keep trying until I win. A revisit of zexal is also what got me invested in competitive yugioh into eventually learning a ton about the game.
He literally lost like 22 duels in a row against Bronk the useless friend character and he only started winning when Astral showed up and Yuma is a bumbling idiot
Yeah Yuma wasn’t that bad tbh
He will always be my favorite
yuma was literally the reason I stopped watching the yugioh anime. zexal was absolute trash from the ugly mc design to the story itself. yugioh, gx, and 5ds were the best iterations and everything after was shit tier.
@@pandapo7542wrong zexal is the best anime and it’s not even close.
Honestly, I'm amazed that Yu-Gi-Oh has managed to have this many iterations. If fell off from the series while the Seal of Oroboros Arc was airing on Canadian television, and I tried to get back into the card game when synchro was the latest hotness. But partaking in local weekly tournaments I was just so completely out-matched by decks that pretty much ensured that they would draw into what they needed to win, and others needed to bring the exact counter to those decks. It just wasn't any fun anymore. I can appreciate folks still enjoying the game and being passionate about it, but for me that ship sailed a long time ago. Interesting video nonetheless.
Alexander E The first season of GX was the best!
Bobby Bero I love GX but...nah, it really wasn’t. I like the slice-of-life approach to it, but then later on it’s like the creators realized there was no story, and so they made this super rushed arc with these fake Egyptian God cards with a main villain who comes entirely out of nowhere at the end.
Season 2 has issue too but at least it had a main villain who was properly built up via Sartorius/The Light of Destruction, and season 3 is basically peak Yugioh writing with Jaden’s development and how amazing a villain Yubel is.
Zexal is an underrated series.
Honestly, playing casual games are more enjoyable than playing the meta. I actually cannot see what people find enjoyable with the meta. You win nothing but bragging rights after spending hundreds on a deck that 60% of everyone else has within the meta.
Meanwhile, I'm having fun with my friends playing with experimental decks, character decks and fun non-meta decks.

What killed Yu-Gi-Oh for me is the change of rules and this Yu-Gi-Oh sevens
I always said that what makes Yugioh, especially the anime and manga, is that the art style always stayed consistent. Unlike Pokemon when they somehow managed to make Ash look younger despite the fans wanting Ash to become older. With Sevens they threw that in the bin.
With the card game, I've been playing since the end of DM and primarily in the GX era, overtime you get used to the mechanics, but the problem is the complacency of reprinting. In no way is it fair to have cards that are like £20 - £30 each due to a lack of reprint, especially if you want to run three of them in your deck.
And quite rightly as you stated, the constant drastic change of play formats and rules can be quite tedious, especially to a new or a returning player.
What killed Yugioh for me when they introduced even more complicated and stupid gimmicks
As of show, Yugioh was killed was GX, 5Ds is passable but after that lol no.

@@shaggyrogers7986 no after Vrains YGO died
The series' charm point was always the death game mechanic. The idea that it revolves around children's game was ironic and that's why it stuck with us as kids. "Our 'toys' are cool and can kill." Beyblade and super-yo-yo did the same shit except I don't think the yugioh manga started with the intention to sell toys. It was more of selling this character as the 'King of Games'.
I feel like there trying to emulate the yoki watch and Pokémon journeys art style
I kind of like Yo-Kai Watch's simplistic art style since they started with it, but I don't enjoy it with Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh because they started with a different more detailed art style.

The problem is that Konami wants to milk YGO further through a younger demographics but after over 20 years of erratas, master rules, power creep and new card types the game has effectively become impenetrable for anyone under the age of 20. So now they want to start fresh with a "new" version of the game aimed at little kids. However, after 20+ years of essentially living off of the same audience and letting the game and the brand overall slip into obscurity a just OK anime featuring a significantly cut down version of the game is just not enough.
This is the sort of thing that might have worked in 2010 after 5Ds finished. In 2020 it was just too little too late.
Sevens is more different than the other yugioh. I prefer plot heavy shows with more mature themes, the original, 5DS, Vrains. But Sevens has own charm for now: silly adventure, similar to GX season 1. We'll see if something interesting will happen soon.
It probably will at some point. GX and Arc V started off lighthearted and silly, but went dark near the end.

The art style controversy reminds of the Pokemon SM anime controversy regarding its art style, but that ended up being a benefit to the series having smoother animation.

@@TheConuresrule Tell me how's the current Pokemon anime going for you?
Funny part is I get where you are coming from. Sevens has a great foundation with its ideas, just right now...there not doing anything with it . To be somewhat fair however, due to "unspecified disease of unknown orgin" at this point the show should be farther. I agree with the art style part wholeheartedly, but I've made peace that it's the choice they made. Don't even want to go into the mess that is Komani but their handling of the series everywhere but Japan has been subpar at best. Hell till this day they still didn't even get Vrains on a damn mainstream streaming app outside of crunchyroll, which is anime centric so not a wide audience to sell cards to lids like they claim.
With that all said I can't help but say I'm enjoying Sevens more then I have a Yugioh show at the start in a while. After the last three series having so many issues I just can't help but enjoy it. I can't say it's good or bad right now, but these group of kids have endeared me more in the first few episodes then most modern yugioh characters take for me to like them. Let's be honest, the last two shows were beyond ruff at most points (Zexal at least course corrected for the most part outside a few issues). Never seen such wasted potential and the way the game went was just...uhgggg. I will say apparently Rush Duels will get more complex as from the start I think they did say they'll be an extra deck at some point so we'll see where it goes from there. I only hope for the best, I want Yugioh to improve, I want don't things to fail.
You just made me think of Critical Drinker.
Yeah, the art style and the character design of Sevens also turned me off.
That combined with the fact that it's not legally available for streaming (So I feel like I have to go out of my way to watch it) pretty much boils down to me not being interested enough to keep up with watching it. Though I do look over the Duels on a wiki...and so far all of the duels have been 4 turns long.
I hate it so much I want to purge them all ALSO I WOULD NOT DO THAT
I quit Yugioh myself because my ex, after breaking up with me, stole my entire deck and almost all my rare cards. Ghost rares, stuff dating back when Borders and Tokyopop were a thing with those Kaiba and Toon starter decks (remember that,) everything. I was so angry that I sold the rest of my cards for like $200 and never looked back. I saw a bit of Vrains but when I heard that it was premature canned for Sevens (which is the anniversary cartoon) and Sevens was about a bunch of 12-year-old kids, I dropped the anime too. And people simp for the female lead? Yeah no.
Ur ex is not valid
You made the wrong move buddy. You should have used the cards left over to form a new deck, get some friends, and go on a globetrotting adventure together to get back your cards from your evil ex.
Got into Yugioh during high school and got some decks to play with during lunch (mostly Ancient Gear). Unfortunately, MR4 came into existence and I was unable to really adapt to Link monsters. Add that with the ever evolving meta which can pretty much annihilate anything that's not also meta or anti-meta, and you get a teen that lost interest. Doesn't help that trying to catch up to the meta costs money that I didn't have at the time.
What's hilarious is that 4Kids didn't even censor Bastion's ass in that episode. Given how the end of that episode went they couldn't cut that part out. XD
Considering they had an episode where a tiger tried to f*ck bastion...that was just more funny than anything😂
I learned a flaw in Card Packs very late in my interest in the game.
When picking a pack, always go for the ones in the middle, not the front or back. The middle ones are almost always carrying the rarest cards, while the ones in the front and back usually just have a basic lowest-rarity card.
I also never learned any card lingo or strategies, as I hated playing the game and just collected the cards because they looked cool and I could resell them at certain stores for a bit of cash. If I had learned that exploit beforehand, I likely would have made a whole lot more money than I used to. There were two stores, a superstore and a card store near my house, and while I would have been smart enough to game the system I aslo would have been smart enough to not buy the card packs at the card store.
I'm honestly enjoying Sevens more than I thought. Probably because it's genially funny and not unintentionally funny like GX's dub is. And well how disappointing Vrains ended up being. While yeah it's always nice to have an older protagonist sometimes, I don't necessarily think whether a character is older or not really matter if you're trying to tell mature themes.
Debatable but respectable. I like Sevens too, not to the extent as the previous series but eh. I’ll laugh though if they ever make another Z-Arc type of card in the anime, that has the card background/colors of all the special summons as of the current mechanics LOL
I couldn’t be bothered to finish Sevens, but it was a good show. The writing staff even fix problems that were endemic to Yugioh’s writing (side characters get to win plot-relevant duels! Female characters get to stay competent and relevant throughout the series! The MC is even allowed to lose important duels because the stakes of those are important without being so high a loss ends the story!) The writing was rushed at points, and characters are unreasonably willing to forgive evil actions.
Aside from that, while it’s an enjoyable show, Sevens isn’t interested in returning to Yugioh’s roots as a fantasy horror series. But that part of Yugioh departed with the conclusion of 5D’s Dark Signers arc. As for the stakes in Sevens, the main cast are fighting against a corporate dystopia that tries to control everything in the city, including how to play Yugioh (erm, Duel Monsters). It’s a premise that easily stands up to everything else Yugioh series have done.
Link and Pendulum just made the game beyond convoluted.
One of the biggest things that I think hurt 7's was it's VERY late introduction into Maximum summoning. The New summoning mechanic usually tied into a story beat that got the hard core watchers hooked. While a new summoning mechanic helps keep the card players engaged. But since the first Maximum monster wasn't seen till episode 23 which is a huge ask to wait almost half a year. But also Is the fact that rush duel cards can't be used with normal cards. If maximum summoning was unique to the new cards and could still be used along side the old ones that would be one thing. You can print both with the idea that kids would be smart enough to make there own game with the newer design exclusively especially if they have an anime to base the rules off of. Kind of like speed duels in Vrains.
No, the "misconception" that yugioh was kids anime came from the said anime was heavily toned down from the manga in order to reach a certain rating. With 4kids censoring it even more.
I would have loved a continuation of season 0/King of Games. Yami Yugi is really sadistic, going full on deadly if someone started cheating during their Yami game.
Nah, that story is over an done with mate. Kaiba went to the afterlife to challenge the Pharaoh and that was it. His arc had ended and GX came after.

what killed Yu-Gi-Oh for me is the HUGE amount of text in cards, Links's super-easy-to-make summons, hand traps(because they basically make traps obsolete), and finally, the fact that the game is unplayable now. Your opponent can end the game in like 3 turns, and every turn takes forever
Call me a noob, but I just don't feel compelled to play Yugioh with all those fancy rules. Back then we had fusions, ritual monsters, and that was enough. I can understand that Konami is trying to keep the game fresh with new mechanics, but it should be simple. Nowadays I see a duel with XYZ summon, pendulum, synchro summon and whatever else, and I don't understand any of it.
That's simply because you didn't actually tried to understand them, if you take a look at the older days, rituals and fusions were almost unused, new mechanics only added depth and even fairness to the game and they are definetely not that complicated

I'm no longer questioning the anime, especially with Sevens but Konami does cater to the fan when it comes to the card game. My friend was teaching me Weiss Schwartz and said he wished the zones would matter more in Yugioh then Link came out. There are always tons of legacy support and cards are always reprinted to make them more accessible.
SevenS is weird. On one hand, I detest the style change and have absolutely no interest in the "new" game; On the other, that first duel really felt like a classic YGO duel, the series feels the most childish it has ever felt, and while it doesn't completely appeal to me, it feels... Adorable? Gave me that feeling of childhood wonder for some reason at several points, and it does make me curious for its future... -Also that old woman that looks 14 was hilarious, look at her, she has to wear a sign to drink alcohol at a bar-
I'm very much afraid of the precedent SevenS might accidentally bring about, and I really don't think a game where you draw until you have 5 each turn, "Designed so every turn is a chance for a comeback" is gonna be healthy, or proper for a YGO anime... But we'll see, I guess.
Yugioh is great and classic
Gx is kinda subtly dark and has maturity themes that make it loveable
5ds is edgy dark and cool for the most part
zexal is....a mixed bag but has some cool thngs like vector and art style
Arc v starts gloriously but ends miserably.
Vrains has amazing tools but does little with them
Sevens is...fun, so far.
These are the opininos of a long time fan
The plot armor is one point of contention for me, add onto the fact that there became just waaay too many things to keep track of
I mean, every card game required you to use your brain, so this may as well not being a point.
And the plot armor I completely agreed with you, but when they make the plot of the show being basically mass genocide, letting your MC lose a duel gets kind of difficult.
2 be fair in the Sevens the MC has lost twice with in the frist 25 episodes do he hasent really got that much plot armour.
I think after Sevens they should find some way to get closer to the classic art-style again, and then do something slightly different story wise where instead of going further in the future or to another dimension, they go back to sometime close around the duel monsters era and follow a different group of characters on different adventures. This would achieve their goal of getting back to the basics and bringing in younger audiences for a simpler Yugioh, and also reflect some of what they are doing with the real life game since they aren’t introducing new mechanics at the moment but instead introducing lots of new support for older archetypes and mechanics. Having the story set in a different dimension could still be okay as long as they did it something like it’s an alternate universe that parallels the original yugioh timeline and duel monsters develops slightly differently than in the original show. This way it doesn’t take a chance of contradicting the timeline of the original show, and they can show off that new support for older cards, and even have those cards release in the show at different times than they were in the original show in order to give the spotlight to different cards that missed it in the past, similar to how Duel Links has had cards release at different times than when they were released in the TCG and given life and usefulness to cards that weren’t any good in the physical game. I don’t know though that’s just my two cents.
They should continue gxs story and use the new neos and heroes as part of Jaden's future.
i think sevens and rush duels were created to bring new blood to yu gi oh. Having a base player of 20/25 is very limiting since they are in time (at least in Japan I think) where you cannot win 150 dollars in a tournament deck. So the strategy is that with rush duels start new players with basic rules but with depth and when they get bored of rush duels they will go to the master rule without being complete newbies. That is my story of why the show was created. As for the show itself, in my opinion this ok is not a big deal but it killed me with laughter several times so it's not so bad for me.
I hated everything from tuner card concept. 2008 world championship was such a gold. I need that game back without the new shit concept that kills everything old.
Wait, is "Rush Duels" essentially just playing like an 11-yr old without rules?
I also got a tape in the mail. It was a promo video from Toys R Us/KB Toys before the show aired. It showed clips from season 1 and promoted the upcoming card game that hit stores a few months later.
In the most recent episode Romin (the female lead) beat Yuga in a duel. This is a series FIRST.
I find it hilarious that Yugioh Sevens, a series aimed at children, treats it's female characters with more respect than any other Yugioh series. 🤣
#RominEmpire
Yeah, too bad its so trash, people dont even consider it cannon because anyone would be ashamed of it. And thats saying alot, since we have the failed abortions known as Zexal and Arc 5.
I wouldn't say that. The other female leads never beat the MC cause they weren't as interested into yugioh or as good. Just because the female lead never duels/beats the male lead, doesn't mean they "disrespect" them.
Switching studios improved the writing for the female characters by a mile.
@@good8619 Zexal is underrated and Arc-V was good until tje 2md half
Uhm we had a female character beat the main lead before 7s, Yuzu beat Yuya in the second episode of Arc-V though granted Yuya forgot how to Pendulum Summon
The newer Yugioh is like Digimon Fusion, a mistake.
You talking about the dub or just in general? Personally I had my issues with Xross Wars (particularly the second season) but it wasn't so bad I'd call it a mistake.
How dare you compare Yugioh Sevens with Digimon Fusion
Digimon Fusion is clearly better than Yugioh Sevens
Wow manga thank for saying I feel like I was screaming in the void well at least I'm not alone now
Honestly if they just left it after 5ds it would've been fine. As well as the meta. At least turns don't take like 15 minutes.
I just want them to actually connect the series

Then the arc v soundtrack would never exist
Then the barians arc wouldn’t exist

This was an amazing one great job as always MangaK, you are always as unbiased as you can be and give the facts you find thank you for being the hero no one needed but that we all as fans of the truth and knowledge wanted.
You know, while this series is weird to me, there are little things that keep me invested in it, even if it does feel more like a parody than an actual YGO series most of the time. For starters, I like that the main character does suffer defeat a lot. The first season made him out to be a borderline Gary Stu, but ever since his second loss, he's been showing more vulnerabilities, and more so, all of his losses are legit, like he doesn't just throw duels or make boneheaded mistakes that cost him the entire thing. Another thing I really appreciate is how this series gives all of his friends multiple moments to shine. Every series that came out after Duel Monsters tried to do this, but GX took forever to start frequently letting Jaiden's friends get the spotlight and Yuma's friends in Zexal (At least those introduced early on) were basically canon fodder with Bronk being the only one to get a major victory on-screen. I dunno, it's kind of a big deal to me. When a long Shonen series has multiple supporting characters with combat abilities, I want to see them be useful, you know. This is so far the only YGO series to consistently do that and not once go a long period of time where only Yuuga and maybe his rival (Luke) being treated as the only main characters who matter.
For its flaws, I do feel Sevens does a good job with the characters themselves, even when some need work now and then, showing them to be very human and things like that, such as how you described it with Yuga, and also how his defeats made him stronger, even with his moments of doubt after it all.
As far as art style is concerned, I heard that animating in the style is really difficult and costs a good bit. Cutting that with a simpler art style can make sense. I've watched some of Sevens and it's reminding me of how GX started. Really light-hearted and then it gets dark real quick. I think this is how they are building it. There are bits of sinister in some shots with the corporation. I'll see how it goes.
would have been better with the old style..then to make this....also u dont know that, it could be a comedy the whole time
@@thekage100 Pretty sure I said I'll see how it goes. I never once said it would turn dark.

I am honestly surprise Konami has not tried to just remaster the original show as a way to reboot the card game and the franchise.
i am even more surprised this comment is 1 yo and some Konami higher up didn't see for some reason
The complete original series (Duel Monsters) isn't on DVD or Bluray for a reason.
Okay, i understand all of the naughty naughty bits around it, but i consider Zexal one of the better series.
Yeah, it's no 5D or the Original, but i consider it at least above GX by a smudge.
Also, i haven't seen that much of Arc V ever since years ago, and i refuse to touch Vrains.
Arc v started off pretty great but losses steam in its last season.
Vrains is just meh (though there are some good things in it)
Personally I found Zexal to basically be diet GX. And Arc-V is sort of like those two but I have no idea where I'd place it because it's just too much all over the place in terms of quality.

I hate anything after 5d’s both the show and game. 5d’s introduced the synchron monsters. It was straight forward and not hard at all to pull off. Starting with zexal they introcuded convluted mechaniics that just made the card game unplayable for me. It’s too needlessly complicated now.

There a reason why i stop and stick with the GX version of the game.
But there was ojama support released after GX.
My Favorite Archetype HEROs are garbage in GX.
It took many years for HEROs to become very good with so much newer support
I've grow to be fine with up through 5Ds.
I just block the other 3 series from my mind😂 they lost the spark by trying to update the game and it ruined the game for me honestly
Man people should really stop booming about yugioh "new" ( don't forget pendulums are 7 yo, xyz are 10, synchros are 13 ) parts without trying them. GX and DM really were the dark age of the card game with little-to-no diversity, cards were really expensive, and it lacked strategy
The OG aesthetic got me into yugioh in the first place, and as I grew older I started to appreciate the art in the early card sets, summoned skull looks like something out of Berserk and the dark themes always fascinated me. We lost that in GX with superheroes, and vehicles with eyes, and stuff like that
nah GX had great artwork too especially in Ultimate rares like the Monarchs, Ancient Gear Golem,Dark World monsters
Yeah but did you expect a group of superheroes to look like something you wouldn't want to see in a dark alley? c'mon man.
I know change of asethetics really made me stop but I'm impressed how yugioh has changed its asethetics but yugioh still is there.
Well, for me, I ended up not watching the show past a handful of 5ds episodes just because I had a hard time catching shows after that point and just didn't care to seek it out.
As for the game, links killed it for me for many reasons. The main one being just how crippling it was to synchro and pendulum oriented decks. However, I did create a more up to date deck simply because it just screams suffer from the last ban list I saw. Solemn warning was unbanned so frogs plus 6 solemn just hurts people spiritually.
What killed Yugioh in a nutshell:
Series: Everything over 5ds
The card game: everything over xyz monsters
I liked vrains
I got into yugioh back in my sophomore year of high school(2017) and the complexity of the game is actually what drew me into it. I played Pokemon before hand, but both of them and very early yugioh(DM - 5Ds era) were way too simple for me to have any lasting attachments to the game. I get that maybe the game is too complex for kids around 10-12, but jesus christ rush duels are so simple. I thought Pokemon and Magic was simple, but rush duels dumbed every thing down so a 3 year old could understand it and removed almost everything I liked about yugioh. I'm hoping they give the game some more depth and I'll consider playing it, but as of right now...... yeah no
Is Pokémon art style (the I’m talking about the XY series art style) also a simple generic art style?
It's not even that it's confusing, it just plain & simply suckss, summoning a whole deck in your first turn is just... Meh
Theres handtraps/board breakers/floodgates to deal with that type of Gameplay
@@RinaShinomiyaVal nah, it just sucks, too much bs to deal with, should have been kept fun and simple, but strategic.
It was fine the way it was before all this, they've just made it boring and pointless, new gen decks aren't made to go further than 2 turns and they vastly overpower older fun decks, so there's no point playing it if you prefer the older style unless you know the other couple players on planet earth that still play it that way.

Are his intros always like that? Definitely felt like a rip of Austin's video intros, from the Game Theory Channel.
First time here obviously. Cool video. A freind of mine recommended I watch more of the Yugioh series, but said only up to 5D's.
For me the yugioh anime was killed when that the duels became extremely predictable which would have been fine if the characters were interesting but no the problem is that post zexal the characters are bland as hell, name a momenf in arcc V where yuuya is actually challenged against his beliefs, the most we ever get is thaf yuuya learns he sucks at entertainment here and there and it doesnt affecf his dueling style at all now look at yuma having a crisis qnd we see his change in playstyle.
In a card game perspective the meta regurgitated itself so badly that its guts are now spilling out, so at this point I only mess with casual decks.
(edit) when I say post zexal I mean after zexal. 11/04/2020
not to mention that it was pretty ridicules that among of time they were taking to use one card at least when they constantly taking with each other and the how over the top the dramatic moments were.
@@OfficialNickolasJunior yeah since I agree that Zexal became way to overdramatic to the point the writers tried rushing the writing.
An how the Barians are dealt with since their personal resolution was forgotten and Yuma become buddy buddy with all of them.
An the fact Zexal became boderline copy and paste since they tried to rehash and recyle alot of themes from Takahashi series.
How are characters in zexal bland? You mean like the small 4 characters that aren’t even that relevant? Every yugioh had that small amount if characters, every other character in zexal are fire, and your dislike for unpredictable is really an opinion
@@agu-man6065 zexal was no where near a copy and paste, and was never rushed, quite the opposite infact, and zexal has like maybe 1 or 2 things similar with duel monsters, otherwise it is completely different

The real problem with Yugioh is that it’s not the Millenium World arc. That was the greatest arc of the entire franchise not just because it didn’t revolve around a card game but the stakes were higher than before, the villain was truly compelling, the morality was grayer than it had ever been and the ending was beyond satisfying. If Yugioh was too ever make another great arc than go back to Ancient Egypt, have Duel Monsters act like JoJo stands again and make another villain on par with Yami Bakura.
Except it wouldn’t be a time-travel plot. I would rather have it be set in the modern day with some crazy magic coming back into play.
This doesn't look good for the Yu-Gi-Oh series.
Burning abyss vs my swordsoul, we negate cards and special summon many times I thought we were dueling for many turns but then I realized it's only my first turn.
What are your opinions of Sevens so far after it has finished 2 of its arcs and is now in its 3rd? I'm honestly seeing a lot of praise for the show by fans, myself included. For being a genuinely funny show and having strong character writing between its 4 main leads. Hell, the finale of its 2nd arc does the power of friendship better than most shonen anime.
What is that music that starts at 2:47
I'm gonna be honest here and give some of my full thoughts. First off, always was a fan of your commentaries, mainly the older works, which combined good comedy and actual proper points. That being said, the whole video from the very start feels like the script was less of an actual conversation and more of a play of emotions. I know you put the rant tag in it, but you give actual points in your video. I'm not defending Sevens, that definitely isn't as good, but I wanna talk more on the points that are overly generalized to the game as a whole. I see this a lot of times before, older players see the game change and hate it. They're unable to see that the game has to change, because they love the version they grew up with. It's not like Rush Duels take up the actual game. It's completely separate, so you can still play the original game for decks like Magistus and Draiton. Too many people argue that they know the game despite only being focused on the older shows, mainly GX and DM. I want to like this video, and it had some decent potential. Just seemed a bit odd from your proper commentaries back then.
This video was asshole tbh he should stick to covering topics he actually knows about imo.
Plz share the persona ost you used here.
Sometimes I feel like loving some of the later seasons is a guilty pleasure, my favorite YGO season is Arc-V and I enjoyed Zexal, I dislike GX the most and 5Ds has a huge nostalgia bonus as it got me into YGO (as a show) in the first place. Like burn me on a pyre but sometimes I feel like the original season is a little over rated, I cant be the only one who hated the OG cast save for the Pharao and Kaiba (and his bro because their sibling dynamic was sorta cute)
What killed the show for me is card games on motorcycles and how it was so unsafe
For me this series hasn’t been the same since 5DS
Despite what people say about Zexal at least in Japan it was actually really popular.
Personally I've enjoyed all the spin offs and with how varied they are I'd be surprised if someone couldn't find at least one they liked. They all got their flaws too of course.
and I'm loving the almost Saturday morning cartoon vibes Sevens and Go Rush have.
because it's cool without the english dub
It's pretty interesting to see all these comments going "5ds/zexal ruined it for me" (probably just because they introduced a new card type, yet when GX made fusion summons more complicated than XYZ and Synchro summon together, it was fine?). Classic yu gi oh and gx started my interest in YGO. While growing up and being able to understand the game better, I watched zexal like 8 years after 5ds and think that zexal, arc-v and vrains are way better than the old yu gi oh series. Because they actually play with the real rules instead of bullshitting and cheating during matches. You really thought that yusei, yuma, yuya and yusaku could lose their duels.
I'm also surprised seeing people saying "they made yu gi oh more complicated". While yes, they added cards with a really long text (mostly to avoid space for interpretation within the card rules), they also added link and XYZ which are way easier to summon than Ritual monsters, GX Fusion monsters or many synchro monsters. Or even effect monsters like Dark sage, perfectly ultimate great moth, Armed Dragons, Ra or Divine Neos. Or take a look at the wall of text Vennominaga, Yubel, Rainbow Dragon, koitsu, armed dragon catapult canon etc. have.
And don't even get me started on the problematic wording or missing timing on geartown, yubel or mystic tomato.
If you don't understand why card texts got so long or just dislike it in general, i really recommend informing yourself about "Problem-Solving Card Text" in Yu-Gi-Oh. It's basically a guideline konami follows if they create new cards, so every confusion about the effect can be solved by reading the card and not having to call a judge or something.
Example: "Fusion Summon 1 Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck, using monsters from […] as Fusion Materials."
turned into "Send, from […] to the Graveyard, the Fusion Material Monsters that are listed on a Fusion Monster Card, then Special Summon that monster from your Extra Deck"
So if anyone doesn't know how to fusion summon, the card basically explains to you that you have to sent the specific materials on the card to the GY before placing your fusion monster on the field. Instead of saying "do a fusion summon with the materials." It actually helps new players a lot and it's *not* new card types having 5 different effects!
tl;dr most people who hate on new yu gi oh are blinded by wrong nostalgia and should definitely give it a chance. Especially the anime series gets better and better and helps you to learn the new card types easily.
Facts, yugioh gx was absolute fucking garbage, the story was a complete mess, 5ds had the best story in yugioh and zexal had the best character development, especially the later seasons in 5ds and zexal which never got adapted cuz of 4kids censorship
I used to be a fan of Sevens. That was until they completely destroyed Romin's character by ripping away her connections with all the other characters in order bruteforce her into a pairing with Luke, then made her a violent tsundere in the time skip epilogue scene.
It was heavy-handed, stupid and unnecessary. They just ruined what could have been YuGiOh's best female lead for no good reason and I will never forgive that
Still better than all of the gallop girls combined
When I play Yu-Gi-Oh with family friends we just play with old school rules but allow the newer cards in as some of us didn't get the cards until the newer stuff came out.
Between my family and friends we also break the rule on needing that one spell card to do fusion summons but made a new rule that we need to have the cards to make the fusion monster on the field first.
Other then needing that one spell card every other rule on old school rules is left unchanged.
They need to make a more adult version ..where the animation is more grim dark and the monsters are actually intimidating ...that would help
Kamen you are right about sevens being different I watched 3 episodes of it could tell it's to bring kids back into the game. A good thing is now the main TCG no longer has to follow the show for the pack cover card in the main booster sets don't let sevens ruin how you enjoy collecting the cards.
Yeah, I miss Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters. I hate how some shows can get snuffed like this. it's kinda like how most series go. start off good and then just become disappointing as they try to continue on forever. I still love it despite that but it is kinda sad to me.
