To those who also think the animated shorts are better framed and shot than the original films - you're right, and it's not the first time it's happened. Back when black-and-white films were at their height, sets would be (due to racism in America and some such) used first by the White English-speaking directors, then anyone else who was doing a foreign language version of the film. Thing is, this meant that the (let's say Italian, for the sake of convenience) filmmakers were able to observe what the first directors were doing, then radically improve upon it. So it is that the english cinematography of Nosferatu (again, correct me if I'm wrong pls) is the worst of the lot, while all the versions filmed after the first steadily improved the craft.

I'd ask why they didn't do full blown animated remakes in this style, but only need to look at things as they are currently.
