    Hi Anthony,
    When you do the GPS averaging, is there a way to store the samples its using for averaging as well? It's a handy feature.
    Also is there a way for the app to automatically collect way points using a predefined interval for a defined duration? Say every 20 seconds for 10 mins? this would be very helpful in my line of work.

    • @AnthonyDunk
      @AnthonyDunk  3 года назад

      No, only the final averaged value is stored when you press the red dot in the middle and create a waypoint. The app automatically stores tracklog points at the specified distance interval, but not on the basis of a time interval, since there's really no point saving points if you haven't moved.

      @@AnthonyDunk thanks for the quick response. Im using this app to collect GPS points for a project, not for hiking, where I need to collect data for set interval of time. Every 20 seconds. Would be nice to have this feature in it. The app is great. Thanks

      @@hassanakram4379 Thanks for the suggestion. This is the second time someone has asked for this so I might consider it. What sort of project requires GPS coordinates to be recorded every 20 seconds?

      @@AnthonyDunk any project that needs some more precision. I am just recording point observations around the city for a uni project. This is a function normally in high end surveying software. To calculate the uncertainty and error in a point by calculating standard deviations and variance. This will be done after exporting to excel etc. Some softwares does the calculations too. In other words the precision of a measured point can be determined by calculating stats from those sample data and using the mean value. So we can say the point is only accurate to a certain level depending on the data collected. This is done by everyday GPS users and every student doing a surveying course. Hope this makes sense.

      @@hassanakram4379 Ok, thanks for the info. So it sounds like this would be a new option on the averaging page where you select the recording interval (e.g. 20 seconds) and overall duration (e.g 10 minutes) and the waypoint prefix (e.g. "PW" for periodic waypoints). Then you leave the app to record each GPS location as waypoints for the duration and then the app makes a noise and shows a dialog to let you that it's done. The you can later export the data to a CSV file and view it in a spreadsheet. Sound like what you're looking for?

    Hi Anthony, how do I remove (not delete) previous sessions from my Map screen, after they've been loaded, so that I can either start a new session or load another session?

    • @AnthonyDunk
      @AnthonyDunk  Год назад +1

      After you've finished a walk, press the save button (2nd from left on 2nd last row of buttons) to export the current data. Then, when you start a new walk, press the "New session" button and enter a name for the new session/walk. This will delete the currently loaded data, after asking if you're sure.

    Hi,
    I like the APP but I would like to know if it possible the next real situation:
    Situation description:
    I have 200 single way-points identifying 200 fishing spots in a dam. When I am in the dam and In my boat, I don't have WiFi access (No-Signal at all). I don't care about tracks - only way-point to way-point navigation.
    Questions:
    1 - Can I import all my way-points (KML/GPX) to the APP?
    2 - The importation process will respect the original way-points names?
    3 - Can I previously save the dam map and see my way-points on it? (once I don't have mobile signal)
    4 - Can I, in a easy way, map finger a way-point and GO TO that Way-point?
    5 - Can I voice record under a specific way-point?
    6 - When choose a GO TO way-point can I navigate under an imaginary line from my position to the chosen way-point?
    Extra info: my smartphone has a built-in GPS
    Tanks in advance for your time.
    Warm regards,
    Samuel Janes

      Yes, you can do most of those things with paid version.

    Also, when I have older sessions loaded and add new waypoints, tracks in a new session, when I go to export the new data it also exports the older session data making the file huge (>25Mb). So, is there a way of not exporting the old data and just export the new data? Thanks.

    • @AnthonyDunk
      @AnthonyDunk  Год назад +1

      Do not mix up old session data with current session data. Instead, if you want to load up data from a previous walk to view as a reference while on your current walk, use the "Manage reference set" option which is on the main page menu to import KML or GPX file from a previous session or sessions using the multiple selection checklist which appears when you press the "Import" button. The reference set data (tracklogs and waypoints) will appear in a different colour to your current data.

    Another query which I've had for ages; I have a Samsung Note 10+ that has a chip set that picks up Navstar GPS, Glonass, Galileo, BeiDou, QZSS (Japan) and IRNSS/NavIC (India). Would HandyGPS actually have the capacity to use all of these satellites? i.e. Does having access to all of these GNSS's actually make HandyGPS locations any more accurate?

    • @AnthonyDunk
      @AnthonyDunk  3 года назад

      Handy GPS is just using the standard Android Location API, so one would assume it would use all satellites that were available. You can open the satellite status page in the app using the button at the bottom left of the main page to see what it's using.

    • @mjcussen7458
      @mjcussen7458 3 года назад

      @@AnthonyDunk Ok, looks as though Handy GPS is using GPS, Glonass, BeiDou and QZSS. I think that it isn't picking up Galileo. Its hard to compare GPSTest and Handy GPS's screens together. Anyway, pretty good just the same!

    Hi. How can I import to my coordinates in excel files to HandyGps? I couldn't find it. I have lots of point so I don't want to them manually.

    • @AnthonyDunk
      @AnthonyDunk  Год назад

      Handy GPS will only import KML or GPX files, so if you data in Excel you could export it to a CSV file, then convert it to KML using an online converter such as this: www.convertcsv.com/csv-to-kml.htm

    This video is way out of date with my version. My current coloured version does not have the ability any more, to change datum. The only choice I now have, is GDA2020 OR WGS 84. Might be time to look around at other app.

    • @AnthonyDunk
      @AnthonyDunk  3 года назад

      This is the most recent video I have made on Handy GPS. The coloured buttons were replaced by the monochrome buttons many years ago to give a cleaner and more modern look. To switch your app to the more modern buttons, there is an option on the preferences page under the "Main page" section called "Show monochrome button icons". This is now enabled by default when the app is installed. If you are not seeing the full set of Australia datums maybe you need to re-install the app.

      @@AnthonyDunk Thanks so much for your speedy reply. Yes, one day, the monochrome just changed to colour. You've solved my datum question in your "AusDatumTool program for Windows" video comments. I thought that I bought the once off version of HandyGPS and didn't expect updates. I kind of wish I'd gone for the annual subscription Anyway, I've recommended this app to many coworkers. Thanks again.

      @@mjcussen7458 No worries. Glad you're sorted out. All versions of the app get updates. If you have auto-updates turned on in Google Play, then you'll get them automatically, otherwise you need to open Google Play and update manually. I tend to update the app every few weeks to every few months at the moment, but sometimes more frequently depending on what I'm working on.

    Hello how do subscribe to handy GPS with my Samsung Galaxy Note 8?

    • @AnthonyDunk
      @AnthonyDunk  2 года назад

      There are three versions of Handy GPS on the Google Play Store: free, subscription, and paid up-front. Just install whichever is most appropriate. The free version has limited functionality, but the other two versions are identical except for the payment method. The paid up-front version has the simplest payment since it's just a once only purchase through the store.
