Yes Naomi Scott’s performance was great and the jump scares are well done but to be told that at least the events of the movie from the concussion onwards if not earlier never happened makes me feel like my time was wasted. @@poprocks8316 yeah this guy was probably born in 1999 or 2001 or something. 2000s wasn't THE best decade but it was a pretty good one, The Descent, Ring, Grudge, REC, Saw, Jeepers Creepers, Dawn of the Dead 2004 (still the best zombie film and that's me being a Snyder hater) clears most of 2010s possession/demon related stuff. Any decade tends to be dominated by certain subgenres and themes and I feel like 2010s onward James Wan took over with Conjuring and Insidious. You can even see his DNA in Hereditary, which is probably the culmination of that genre. In fact I don't even know if you can consider certain decades to be better than others. 80s tends to be a standout but I personally hate the pulpy stuff (like Return of the Living Dead) and I don't think you can make a definitive argument for it to be the best. The Thing (along with The Exorcist) is my favorite horror movie though. The Substance is probably best new 80s horror film. Plus it's not even true that these things are neatly divided into decades - the second half of 2000s and a bit of early 2010s was home invasion shit (The Strangers, The Purge, You're Next). Whereas over in France that was all about Hostel type of shit (with Martyrs being the standout).
2000’s was a fantastic time for horror, even if it did err towards quantity rather than quality. 2010s were kinda shit, especially after 2016. A few good standouts, sure, but taken as a whole it was pretty bad. 2020s seem to be a better decade for horror.
Caught this one in the theater as well and initially was on the fence about it, but after a few days I liked it a little more. The first one hit harder for me!
I gotta say I liked this a lot more than the first, even if it was a bit longer than it needed to be. The opening hooked me and it made me rewatch scenes from the first one to get a better grasp on the curse. I feel this is the new Freddy Krueger type of monster. Seems like it has a lot to play with future installments. The fakes outs are excessive but I honestly didn’t mind with Naomi Scott’s performance. Great commentary and feel better!
I saw smile 2 saturday night in theaters , and i really liked the film ,it was scarier than the first one. In the final fight in the refrigerador ,Riley was close to defeating the entity, all she had to do was not lose her fear . I think she could have destroyed the demon ,unfortunately she gave in. What an amazing performance from Naomi Scott, she deserves an Oscar nomation.
I saw the first SMILE in theaters when other “smiley face” horror films were on tubi. It didn’t make sense where the smile curse came from. Hope If a 3rd or 4th SMILE film will have a orgins story on the Smile demon like Hellraiser 3 and 4 did for the cube and Pinhead. And get well soon Satan. I may see Woman of the Year on Netflix.
Sorry that you’re under the weather, getting some rest and warm tea should probably help you get on the mend. Good on you for powering through it to make another video for the cult, though. And on a personal note, I’m glad that this movie brought up the notion of toxic friendships. Speaking from experience, I had a very toxic, emotionally abusive friend when I was a teenager. I don’t wanna get into it too much, but suffice it to say he tried his best to destroy my self-esteem after I called him out on his selfishness. Particularly after he insulted my family and real friends and had the gall to be shocked when I told him to piss off. I haven’t heard from him in four years, and I couldn’t be happier.
Perfect review video on this Smile sequel. Hope you feel better you look beautiful as always even though you are sick. Love your Nightmare On Elm Street sweater by the way.
9:56 runtime little long? Surprised to hear this, honestly. I think there wasn't a single scene in this movie that was drawn out and unnecessary. Something was happening all the time, pretty much. The time flew by for me.
I'm so glad someone else has referenced britney because I swear they call justin timberlake out in the film. naomi screams FUCK THE TOUR! which I swear is a direct reference to JT getting arrested and asking the cop 'but what about the tour?'
Best Horror movie of the year as far as I'm concerned - just beating out Longlegs. 9 out of 10 - only small complaints are a few too many jump scares (I was exhausted by the end) and I would've like to learn more about the entity. Was the ending it's plan all along or coincidence?
Really hope that you’ll get better. Take good care of yourself ✨❤️ other than that I do think that smile 2 is an improvement from the first one. I do think it’s a lot more traumatizing that the original smile.
Another super-thoughtful review, somehow in spite of the sickness, so thanks! I also thought Smile 2 was quite good though I had a few issues with it. Naomi Scott was of course absolutely fantastic. (And I too started my Letterboxd review, also 3.5 stars, without having seen yours, with a concern troll about the Voss chugging because that was seriously one of the most disturbing things in the movie, like she is a petite lil short queen, her bladder cannot be that big, and she can't have done just one take of some of those shots.) But I'm commenting because of what you said about the tear from one eye. I heard an interview, and according to Scott, it's just her genetics or anatomy or whatever. Whenever she musters the cry, without fail the first one to start squirting is the left. That's just what happens, it's out of her control. I would have never noticed and I'm impressed you did without hearing her talk about it, but watching the movie, yep, the single-tear track is almost always on the same side as the mole on her lip.
i literally just watched it like 30 minutes ago and it was great. i’ll kinda agree about the third act and how you can’t trust ANYTHING, in one way i like it as it’s crazy that basically the whole act was a manifestation but it’s also getting to a point like did anything happen? there’s gotta be a point where you can have some sense of reality. cus then i’m questioning if maurice was real at all, obviously not in the last bit but was the first scene even real or just fucking with her? ultimately it works for me even with some of the issues because at the end of the day it was a fun roller coaster ride.
I never had any interest in seeing the first Smile movie, I think I remember they did a cool ad campaign for it, but after that I forgot about the movie. Then I saw the Smile 2 trailer; it did nothing for me, but after watching your review I think I'm going to watch both movies with some friends, sounds interesting.
This movie honestly i liked more. i understand that the premise of this movie is sorta the same thing but different themes, 1 is more hospital theme and 2 is more popstar, But i figured they were gonna do that whole thing were yeah, she beat it! woo happy ending Turns out it's just in ur mind, The way parker finn handled this i didn't expect it to last that long, and i should've figured it out when she "killed her mom" yk but them doing the therapist scene idea but different was a neet touch. And an interesting idea that i thought would work was what if you medically off urself but ur brought back would the curse be lifted, nope..... but i was right about the ending and idc i love it, and a perfect idea for a 3rd one were we can focus on many different people who are dealing with this problem but we need more lore and how to beat it Also, Jack Nicholson's son was in this surprisingly and u could tell cuz he does that smile
Wasn't a huge fan of the 1st but this had pretty great cinematography and character work with some genuinely unsettling moments. Naomi Scott put da team on her back in this movie 8/10
- smile 2 spoiler warning - i wouldn’t say i necessarily disliked the ending but i was kind of hoping for more rather than a rinse and repeat of the first film. i found it extremely predictable even all the way back to when the movie got revealed that it would be centered on a pop star and i was like “oh wow what if she ends up offing herself onstage in front of the entire audience passing the curse onto everybody”, and here we are lol. though i think it was well executed in general as a big spectacle. now this might contradict a big part of the character study but i ultimately think it would’ve made for a more interesting ending if skye managed to beat the curse but here’s why. we know that in the first movie in order to pass the curse onto someone else without dying is to brutally murder someone with someone else to witness it causing trauma, like what joel was attempting to do in the opening scene (but joel picked them because they were drug dealers that murdered people) & how that one inmate character successfully managed to do in the first film. when skye is basically being psychologically tortured to her end by the demon, she’s quite literally convulsing on the floor of the stage in front of everybody and i thought it was super odd that someone this popular at such a major event like this didn’t have some kind of emergency team go out and help her. but if that happened, what if instead skye used the microphone to brutally murder the people trying to help her with the entire audience to witness & record it, traumatizing everybody as they just saw her commit such a heinous act in front of the world. skye beats the curse & ends up going to prison but at the cost of everything so in the end the demon still took so much from skye even if she gets to live. her fame, freedom, respect, everything. she knows the actual truth but the entire world sees her as this monster who killed innocent people on stage presumably in a drug fueled rage given her past as an addict. maybe this hypothetical alternate ending is super dumb & would make no sense with the rest of the film but idk lol. just feel like it would’ve been something different especially for the major perspective shift from a psychologist in the first one to a famous pop star.
SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS "the morris of it all" LMAO I agree I don't love that wishy washy story telling style of "oOoOoOo which part is in her head" constantly throughout. Also I'm gonna be real I predicted the ending as soon as this sequel story line was announced 😂seemed like the obvious way to end it tho, almost like that was the original spark of the idea for this sequel and they had to build the story as a means to get to it. Makes for intrigue for Smile 3 for sure. Overall cool flick and great theater experience
Hope you feel better soon Kylie 🙏, also this movie was pretty scary and some of the jump scares got me but what really got to me the scariest jump scare was seeing the dirty nasty ass underwear in Skye's apartment for that one scary scene , Parker Finn that was disgusting you went way too far on that one buddy 🤢😂😂😂
Well I follow all your content and yes you fell something coming the last few days. Hope you get better soon. I know you have three watch alongs this week. So be careful. I saw smile Thursday and yes I liked it. I can think back and say that I felt it was better than the first. The reason I feel that way is because I felt it dipped into this Demon a little more. I like the point made who’s really in control. How anyone can get past that in the future maybe they’ll figure that out. The scene where the Dancers are smiling and coming closer was brilliant. Best horror scene I’ve seen in a while. I felt like getting out of my chair and moving up a few rows. I know there will be negative reviews. But I like the smile movies. I still feel it has legs. I’m glad they made a sequel. I wholly agree with you in the second guessing of what is real. I feel in the third movie there needs to be an element of getting back at the demon and taking some of that control back. It would be interesting to write that. You can’t have a third movie where you feel is hopeless no matter what you do. Take Control Back! Loved the ending too, but yes it bothered me wondering what was real. Next movie turn the table on the Demon give it a final ending. Then wait another year for Smile 4 and learn, oh wait we forgot something. 🤔😜 Feel better Soon.
i really loved the movie but i had the worst audience. the theater was full and i dont mind when people scream or laugh bc its natural w a horror movie BUT these people were just talking about random stuff and some were on their phones like wtf??
SPOILERS: I think the ending doesn't completely spoil the movie for me cuz there was setup for it even in the 1st act. While watching the movie, I was questioning how the nurse guy even got Skye's number and even how he texted was weird. He sent a cryptic message and then went days b4 stressing the importance of her having a demon parasite in her? Also, the movie shows instances where others are being possessed by the parasite and they hurt Skye but from what we know from the 1st movie, it can't infest more than 1 person at a time and can't cause any physical damage to the host that the host doesn't inflict on themselves. Between that and the constant hallucinations, I was sorta prepared for an ending like that.
This one was more relatable in the recovery sobriety sense so loved that part that car scene has to be my favorite but also the worst cause how real it is! Also Ray Nicholson was so hot and sooo good!
IMO this movie’s like a 2.5/5, but I can see someone connecting with the issues being discussed here and influencing their views positively so there’s obviously no right or wrong.
I really liked the movie but I'm didnt like the ending all the way. It implies most of everything was an illusion. If Morris was real which I'm not sure of then why does this smile demon bring her friend back in her life acting genuinely nice if it feeds into your negative thoughts? Like when she was in the bed with Gemma and it made her say she was a horrible person that made sense but why would it do all the other shit with her like talk to her on the phone, spend the night, drive her? Also it was at the beginning of the movie where she was discussing her performance and how she didn't want to wear that outfit so at the ending where she's on stage wearing it implies that everything after was an illusion and I just don't get why this demon would make all of that fake. Yeah I agree with you on the ending.
Really didn't like the ending, thought it made a lot of the movie amount to nothing by giving us that, i enjoyed the getting to that point, just thought the last 5 mins let it down
If they make a 3rd one, would it involve all the people from the audience at the end committing suicide? Or does the demon just pick one person to haunt? The first option is intriguing 🤔
I think it’ll end up only haunting one person but I’d like to try to see them juggle it haunting a whole friend group or something. Though the third act makes me doubt they could pull that off
@@HauntedHippie I think it would be good because the theme of isolation and being alone in the experience has already been explored a lot in the first two.
I have a confession to make, I still haven’t seen any of the smile movies lol it’s a major blind spot on my end but I figured, with you giving it only a three star review, it would just be mid and I never expected a sequel tbh lol I wonder if you even need to see the first one to understand the second? I’m sorry to say but you seemed so miserable during this whole review. So sorry you’re feeling shitty, I have been too lately but the Freddy sweater looks nice lol why does this have to happen during our favorite season??! Man that concussion story is crazy! Damn that Voss water and Ryan hahah idk if I should feel honored or ashamed that my name was used for that idiot haha tbh it reminds me of myself. Let’s just say I won’t be drinking much in the near future and leave it at that. My sister has had some toxic friendships in her past and it sucks cuz she would talk about them and their family members like her own but she had to cuts ties as well and I support her. It’s tragic but people are people. Thank you for the insightful review my dark mistress! I’m hoping that our watchalong tonight will keep your spirits up. Your new review drop kept mine up lol
Must be a cold day in hell for the antichrist to get a cold lol I quite enjoyed the movie, despite a few potholes. Like I really enjoyed the opening scene, but based on the rules of the demon, it doesn’t make sense.

@@rainiwakura2430 So being born at a certain time means I can’t have an opinion on horror movies? What a weird argument…
2020s is a strong decade for sure
Smile 2 is my 11th favorite film of the year so far. I have it listed on my Letterbox.
naomi scott was soo flippin good in this, was such a pleasant surprise
No I completely agree. My biggest pet peeve is the it was all in their head trope where it feels like what was the point of any of it
I never even heard of Voss or realized the water was a product placement.
I'm looking forward to seeing this movie.
Found you from your terrifier 3 review really like your content I love horror
Oh gosh yes with the whole “it’s actually a dream’ that’s so annoying cause then upon rewatches, the disturbing aspect is gone.
Best Horror movie of the year as far as I'm concerned - just beating out Longlegs. 9 out of 10 - only small complaints are a few too many jump scares (I was exhausted by the end) and I would've like to learn more about the entity. Was the ending it's plan all along or coincidence?
8:00 actually voss water was never sponsored so . . they did that on prupose
Wow didn’t realize it was genetic. My tears do whatever the hell they want lol
The movie felt like a Greatest Hits of fake outs to me. So yeah, heavy handed is the right word.
i literally just watched it like 30 minutes ago and it was great. i’ll kinda agree about the third act and how you can’t trust ANYTHING, in one way i like it as it’s crazy that basically the whole act was a manifestation but it’s also getting to a point like did anything happen? there’s gotta be a point where you can have some sense of reality. cus then i’m questioning if maurice was real at all, obviously not in the last bit but was the first scene even real or just fucking with her? ultimately it works for me even with some of the issues because at the end of the day it was a fun roller coaster ride.
I enjoyed Abigail, Substance, Destroy All Neighbors & Lowlifes better at the moment but that could change in the next two months.
This movie honestly i liked more. i understand that the premise of this movie is sorta the same thing but different themes, 1 is more hospital theme and 2 is more popstar,
But i figured they were gonna do that whole thing were yeah, she beat it! woo happy ending
Turns out it's just in ur mind,
The way parker finn handled this i didn't expect it to last that long, and i should've figured it out when she "killed her mom" yk but them doing the therapist scene idea but different was a neet touch.
And an interesting idea that i thought would work was what if you medically off urself but ur brought back would the curse be lifted, nope..... but i was right about the ending and idc i love it, and a perfect idea for a 3rd one were we can focus on many different people who are dealing with this problem but we need more lore and how to beat it
Also, Jack Nicholson's son was in this surprisingly and u could tell cuz he does that smile
Wasn't a huge fan of the 1st but this had pretty great cinematography and character work with some genuinely unsettling moments. Naomi Scott put da team on her back in this movie 8/10
Lol, glad to see that I'm not the only one who has been sick lately. Anyway, I hope you get better soon!
Man somethin is goin around!
- smile 2 spoiler warning -
i wouldn’t say i necessarily disliked the ending but i was kind of hoping for more rather than a rinse and repeat of the first film. i found it extremely predictable even all the way back to when the movie got revealed that it would be centered on a pop star and i was like “oh wow what if she ends up offing herself onstage in front of the entire audience passing the curse onto everybody”, and here we are lol. though i think it was well executed in general as a big spectacle.
now this might contradict a big part of the character study but i ultimately think it would’ve made for a more interesting ending if skye managed to beat the curse but here’s why.
we know that in the first movie in order to pass the curse onto someone else without dying is to brutally murder someone with someone else to witness it causing trauma, like what joel was attempting to do in the opening scene (but joel picked them because they were drug dealers that murdered people) & how that one inmate character successfully managed to do in the first film.
when skye is basically being psychologically tortured to her end by the demon, she’s quite literally convulsing on the floor of the stage in front of everybody and i thought it was super odd that someone this popular at such a major event like this didn’t have some kind of emergency team go out and help her.
but if that happened, what if instead skye used the microphone to brutally murder the people trying to help her with the entire audience to witness & record it, traumatizing everybody as they just saw her commit such a heinous act in front of the world.
skye beats the curse & ends up going to prison but at the cost of everything so in the end the demon still took so much from skye even if she gets to live. her fame, freedom, respect, everything.
she knows the actual truth but the entire world sees her as this monster who killed innocent people on stage presumably in a drug fueled rage given her past as an addict.
maybe this hypothetical alternate ending is super dumb & would make no sense with the rest of the film but idk lol. just feel like it would’ve been something different especially for the major perspective shift from a psychologist in the first one to a famous pop star.
Saw it last night and I loved it😊hope you get better soon kylie. Sucks to be ill ❤

"the morris of it all" LMAO I agree I don't love that wishy washy story telling style of "oOoOoOo which part is in her head" constantly throughout.
You're a legend. Your channel is phenomenal and you're doing God's work. Alright bye.
Hope you feel better soon Kylie 🙏, also this movie was pretty scary and some of the jump scares got me but what really got to me the scariest jump scare was seeing the dirty nasty ass underwear in Skye's apartment for that one scary scene , Parker Finn that was disgusting you went way too far on that one buddy 🤢😂😂😂
no because that was sooooo visceral. definitely layers to that
@@HauntedHippie I know right
What makes you smile?
Saw it tonight. Naomi Scott was incredible, and I look forward to what Parker Finn does next but I hope it’s not Smile 3.
Smile 2 made the directors of Abagail and M. Night look like total amateurs IMO.
Loved the movie. Get well soon ❤
Feel better Soon.
I loved the opening of this movie and ending was awesome! I definitely thought this was better than Smile 1
I loved the different perspective. That was interesting. Just wished it did something new with the lore
The creature at the end is practical
Went to watch this last weekend. Enjoyed it little more then the 1st. But both great.
Hope you feel better soon!
Imagine being taken out of the movie because off a sponsor that never was 😂. That being said great review. Hope your health gets better
i really loved the movie but i had the worst audience. the theater was full and i dont mind when people scream or laugh bc its natural w a horror movie BUT these people were just talking about random stuff and some were on their phones like wtf??
Really good performance by Naomi Scott the ending scene was the creepiest part
SPOILERS:
I think the ending doesn't completely spoil the movie for me cuz there was setup for it even in the 1st act.
Lemonade Mouth is such a good movie I cry every time haha but WHAT I did not realize Naomi Scott was Mo! I’m so shocked rn! 😮
Also the water worked on me too now all I wanna drink is Voss water
This one was more relatable in the recovery sobriety sense so loved that part that car scene has to be my favorite but also the worst cause how real it is! Also Ray Nicholson was so hot and sooo good!
Him going full Jack Torrance did it for ya? 😭
feel better!
IMO this movie’s like a 2.5/5, but I can see someone connecting with the issues being discussed here and influencing their views positively so there’s obviously no right or wrong.
It was all in their heads is one of the worst copouts....hack writing
Still gonna watch tho thx for the review ❤
I don’t think it was all in her head, only killing the mom.
@@BullyMaguire4ever no I know.... She was referring to a particular scene..I just meant in general
Is funny that you said it was sponsored by Voss water, cause in an interview with Finn he said it wasn’t sponsored.
Voss was not a product placement. They wanted to pick an outrageously overpriced brand as a character trait.
It was pretty obvious, but she was using Lady Gaga as an influence. 😂😂
Hope you get well soon @Haunted Hippie
Naomi Scott deserves an Oscar nomination for this movie!
Kylie thank you for the review smile 2 in feel better soon.
Really didn't like the ending, thought it made a lot of the movie amount to nothing by giving us that, i enjoyed the getting to that point, just thought the last 5 mins let it down
❤️ the thumbnail
If they make a 3rd one, would it involve all the people from the audience at the end committing suicide? Or does the demon just pick one person to haunt? The first option is intriguing 🤔
I think it’ll end up only haunting one person but I’d like to try to see them juggle it haunting a whole friend group or something. Though the third act makes me doubt they could pull that off
@@HauntedHippie I think it would be good because the theme of isolation and being alone in the experience has already been explored a lot in the first two.
Who is going to be the horror icon whose offspring is in Smile 3?
nice review. You look pretty devious in the thumbnail.
An 18 minute ad that's it I'm getting premium
Loooove this look and sweater on you
I have a confession to make, I still haven’t seen any of the smile movies lol it’s a major blind spot on my end but I figured, with you giving it only a three star review, it would just be mid and I never expected a sequel tbh lol I wonder if you even need to see the first one to understand the second?
I chose ryan because it rhymes with one of his actual names hahaha no subtext there
Very little to smile about in this re-tread of the original.
Improvement upon, imo
Must be a cold day in hell for the antichrist to get a cold lol I quite enjoyed the movie, despite a few potholes. Like I really enjoyed the opening scene, but based on the rules of the demon, it doesn’t make sense.
truly! Takes a lot to knock me down, especially in my favorite season
Was not a fan of thrle fake out at the end
Tbh, at that point we don’t really know what was or wasn’t real.
my unholy master
I did not like the 1st one because when they were possessed and smiling it looked like they used cgi in it
Can I ask off they used cgi in part 2 to ?
they did.. a little too often
@@HauntedHippie thanks I’m saving money for something better
I enjoyed the first SMILE, but this one was an incoherent mess.

@@HauntedHippie yw Kylie yeah I love the remake it brought Freddy Krueger back to his evil demonic roots I love Robert's Freddy wit all of my black heart but after awhile his Freddy jus got to be too how do I say this?
