    I personally include the Dhammapada in my daily buddhist practice. After the pooja, I take my Dhammapada book and I recite one of the 26 chapters. I do this every day and after 26 days I start with chapter one again. 😊 For me it is very helpful and it makes me happy to read and to hear the Buddhas words (incl. side notes) in verses. During special moments throughout the day I remember some verses, or they come into my mind...and they teach me something...for example to abstain from anger...or how to make a good choice. It is like having a teacher in my mind that helps you to remember...a good guide in life.❤. May all of you be well and happy 🙏 Namo Buddhaya

    My reccomenendation is:
    The Middle Length Sayings
    (MAJJIHIMA-NIKAYA)
    Translated from the Pali by
    I. B. HORNER
    London pali Society
    this has been my companion for the past 35 years. There are numerous good books about bhuddism, each of them reflecting the authors take.
    When it comes to the actual teachings, these 152 teachings of Gotamo and contemporaries as recorded by the monks shortly after Gotamo's departure are the central, most authentic, pure, genuine pices left to us. These are simple teachings adressing laymen, priests, kings, monks, ascetics, searchers. They are timeless.
    There are many translations of the Dhammapadda. I want to recomend two:
    1) Dhammapadda by Eknath Easwaran -- written from the heart with a fabulous introduction to every chapter.
    2) Dhammapadda English - Pali Edition by Harischandra Kaviratna -- a literal word-by-word translation.

      Agree. I have done the same and read some of the book bhante recommended as well. When reading the The Middle length discourses, skip the first and come back to it after you read the rest. It is easier to understand the first Sutta this way. Most people give up when they start with number 1.

      If you want to understand the core teachings and values of Buddha Dhamma, or the Teachings of the Buddha, start with the Dhammapada with references. It is a compendium of Buddha's own teachings. There you will know where Buddha Dhamma stand amongst all other spiritual teachings on rituals, deities, gods, creation, hell, heavens, rewards, punishments etc. There are many You Tube versions, and talking books too.

      You had send me a reply but You Tube has hidden it, nevertheless I managed to read it. Thank you. Buddha Dhamma is not about seeking happiness. There are many self help Buddhist happiness books written by many monks too. It does not mean seeking happiness is not advisable, but Buddha's main core of teaching is to find the causes for our unsatisfactoriness (commonly known as 'suffering' but it is not suffering too) and finding a way out. Clinging to so called happiness does not give freedom from 'suffering'. So be careful when seeking the teachings, as it is your own self discovery and self realisation. Buddha Dhamma is not philosophy or psychology as Buddha did not teach philosophy or psychology but there are many things in Dhamma that is similar and or compatible with/in western philosophy or modern psychology. Just be aware of them. I advise you to read scholarly books written by western Buddhist monks as their writings are not based on inherent cultural, traditional practices or rituals or biases, but purely based on the teachings

    Buddhism is open to everyone . That is true . Buddhism can be practiced by anyone in this world . Buddhism is not something for politicians to misuse to come to power and Buddhism is not a private property of Srilankan people or Srilankan Buddist monks. Buddhism was introduced to the world by the Lord Budda for the sake of everyone not for the sake of the people of one country.

      Yes Buddhism is NOT a private property to claim it belongs to one nation, one race, one tribe, and all others should take it from them. I am glad for your brave statement. Buddha Dhamma does NOT belong to one or any land. Buddha Dhamma does not bless armies, worriers who carry weapons, claim ownership of any, no politics. Thanks for highlighting Sri Lankan Buddhist monks, yes they are always on the streets, demanding for their own benefits and for all the other political reasons, while living in best of comfort supported by the poor in the name of Sanga. Monks are NOT privileged too, Buddha never created such an order, but for those who wish to leave homes to homelessness, to live in forests, not in palaces.

    • @007bluesky007
      @007bluesky007 Год назад

      Dhammapada and Bhagavad Gita have similar profound truths. In the Ch-02 of Bhagavad Gita, Supreme Lord Krishna explains to Arjuna that Deluded Desire being the cause of Suffering and the entire chain link cycle of cause-effect, the poisons of greed, anger and foolishness. The Lord calls the Bhu: (material earthly world) Dukkhalayam Asashvatam ( impermanent world of suffering). When he further explains the concept of Bodhi he talks about Jivanmuktha and Bodhisattva ( people in the path of enlightenment). The eight fold path is also touched in Bhagavad Gita. It seemed to be that Buddha, the Great One, lived the life of a Jivanmuktha and a perfect example. What a human life is for and how it should be lived, no one has given the best example as the Venerable Shakyamuni Buddha.

    • @timetoreason7090
      @timetoreason7090 Год назад +6

      Gita and Dhammapada are no way close to each other, two different books. It is as someone telling Dhammapada is simialr to the Bible. If anyone reading this no need to argue just get the two books, read on your own and compare. Dhammapada does NOT contain deities, gods or divine intervention. Gita relates to Veda and Hinduism which is god/deity centered and caste based due to its origins from the migratory tribes to the subcontinent during very ancient times from the Euro - Asian stepps, near east, Persia and Hellenic nations who called themselves as Aryans to distinguish themselves from the natives of the Subcontinent. Buddha dhamma does not worship Krishna, Arjuna or whoever as they are based on myths and legends, as much as Mahabaratha which was written in the similar fashion of Homer's Iliad and Odyssey as M.Bharata was written by the same migratory people. Buddha Dhamma has no part with Veda or later Hinduism, no deities, no rebirth, no soul, no moksha, no Brahma, no sacrifices, no rituals, no caste system, no creation and the rest of the list goes on. Have a nice day.

      I have read both the books and I feel that there are quite a few noticeable similarities but I feel that I might have not observed carefully for more. Talking about the Gita, compared to other translations and commentaries the one from ISKCON gives you a very different version focusing on only Bhakti, etc etc but the ones I read did give a different viewpoint focusing on karma, buddhi. Both the books focus slightly different though. To get a better understanding I asked this to him in the comments. I would recommend to read both.

    In my opinion, anyone who wants to learn the shortcut, if there ever is one, of finding happiness and staying happy, should read Dhammapada.

    Thank you so much for recommending this Books and providing links too. I wanted to read books purely based on Buddhism for long time bcz authors writting really effect our mindset. As our old books were burned by envader i don't want to read something and change my thoughts. Bcz writter will write knowledge and story he knows and some of his thoughts but we will know difference only when we read different author and books. That's why I haven't read much books related to Buddhism. I mostly hear stories directly from Monks.
    Now I will surely read this books once my exam will finish.

Thank you for posting the videos you do; these videos enrich the lives of myself and my friends who I share them with.
