Hi Casey 👋😊 Pagan comes from a word meaning "those in the countryside", who lived naturally with the earth cycles wherever they lived. Not usually able to read or write, they were the last to be brought into the fold of organized religion. Same with Heathens. These are merely types of people, those living closer to nature,as you find yourself drawn to,and your lifestyle. It amazes me that you've been able to continue to connect with Spirit without freaking out due to your past conditioning.. It's natural to celebrate our Earth cycles, the solar markers and lunar markers. We're all very much a product of our planet, energetically matching Earth's magnetosphere with our own bodies energetic field, our auras, the Kundalini's movement, and our extended consciousness, much like the fungi networks in forests and flora communication. God names have changed over the aeons. To me, the tales behind them are condensed metaphors for the variety of our experiences, hopes, aspirations and realities. One can take a name such as Aphrodite, and from a single name, the metaphor is relatable to so much! Although we were church goers, I was listening to my dreams, the forest, rocks, and the small still voice within. I chucked mainstream religion in my teens, deciding then, my inner poet had the right of way; I learned my filters, took from many energetic practices to refine and discipline my abilities and connection as a part of divine spark, not separate. My values as a pagan\animistic spiritual being turned out to be far less fluid than ANY church. I was accountable to the Whole and my community including myself. I stopped believing in the devil at 8 or 9 years old. Evil pushed me away and helped me cement my values. Getting through certain concepts and maintaining balance will always be a challenge for me as with many gift aware people. Semantics are just that; words we give metaphors to explain and compartmentalize life so we can get a better grip on the mysteries of corporeal life. The scientific world is currently discovering the realities of planetary resonance and even Magick.(quantum physics) Semantics are the only separation. Hang on to your great sense of humor! Perspectives are fluid too. From my pov, you live a good pagan life as you search to name your own metaphors, as we all do. Amazing Casey I feel your peace I hear it in your voice thank you for sharing several years ago I myself wanted to get out of the rat race of society the politics, and hate in society, was overwhelming for me so I started looking for land it’s not much, but it’s enough for me to reflect and I to felt the hypocrisy and what they sow call church. My mom always told me church is in your home and to be grateful for what you have and I know now, that spirituality is in me God bless you and your family. and I hope more people like you and me don’t forget about him.

I, too, stopped marking modern holidays for similar reasons. I still mark ancient seasonal days based on the lunar calendar that I suppose could be called pagan or were pagan/celtic in origin but I do not follow pagan gods. It’s more of a communing with the fellow creation under the Creator. I tend to keep a 7th day Sabbath but that’s not necessarily Saturday but I work six days and rest on my seventh (communing with nature and the creator, prayer and meditation… a quiet time). More and more I’m trying to incorporate the original feast days of the Creator but not like modern Jews per se. I follow the promptings of the Creator with much prayer and thought because it is a high taboo thing to do in my world which, like you, I struggled with taking the path. I do attend the family activities but only at bare minimum. I have a background similar/parallel to yours. There’s no point in arguing about it because they have no ears to hear. The Creator can and does speak to me as much through a drop of dew as through the scripture. For fellowship, I tend to claim the Friends/Quakers… mostly because they are the least organized religion and they place an emphasis on one’s own inner relationship with the Creator over anything mankind dictates.

I asked her why she was so afraid of you’re “going home”? Now, my Mom passed 10-01-22. I was sitting outside processing her transition and heard her voice as clear as anything. She said, “Nee, I am all around you. I am the wind, the sky, the trees, I am everything.” What you say resonates big time!
