Look at all 3 of Thompson goals vs Detroit on Monday. 1st goal- He cam boom stick one timers in the mid 90mph. 2nd goal- He’s got a sick release + the patience to freeze defenders and goalies without even deking. 3rd goal- His in tight deking/stick handling with his reach can literally take a goalie out of the way for a dump into an entire empty net. That’s all three phases of lethal offense with scoring outside of deflecting shots.
Blues won on the short term of that trade with a Cup, Buffalo won in the long term as ROR isn't leading them well this year and they got their one and done Cup. Buffalo needs to win with Thompson though to cement the great trade for both teams narrative
My brother and I, both Sabres fans from Buffalo, both talked about Tage being a match-up nightmare after last night's game If he starts putting all his gifts together consistently? He will be UNSTOPPABLE!! Similar players - NONE have all this - the speed, size, agility, grit, determination, stick-handling, passing, scoring There was a stat at the end of last season for Fs of Tage's size or larger - and he was like 1/2 the total G by all the rest, 1/4 the A, in around 1/10th the GP...just mind-boggling production....his size is a distinct advantage where it has not helped others
And don’t forget he had a Gordie Howe hat trick a few weeks ago….in one period. 40 years and Ive never seen a C that big with hands that elite that can skate like that. It looks like he’s playing keep away from children lol. Buffalo is in great hands with freaks of nature like TT and Josh Allen running the show over there.
So I don't like titles or premises like this as it kind of undervalues the player, because now the response form logical people has to be "noooo, he is not even close to as good as McDavid", as opposed to "yeah, that performance was sick, he will be really good this season and probably for a long time if he continues".
Those were "goal scorer's" goals, his 1st was just a cannon. He had another "goal scorer's" goal earlier this season, I can't remember which game (EDIT: Edmonton, the 1st highlight in this video lol)....he's coming around very quickly!!! His assists last night were very purty too!!

Hes a machine. Nice long reach protects the puck. And he places the puck well on shots. The slap shot somehow is extremely accurate also
