Exhaust tips are generally pretty easy to remove and re-install. I'd recommend that and to wear some latex/rubber gloves, too.
Use Lime Away and non-scratch sponges.
Just spray them with dawn powerwash spray and rinse with water, you don't even have to touch them with your hands until drying off.
Does this work for black chrome exhaust tips?
