Excellent video! This is such a fascinating series! Round 41 wow! I find it such an interesting story about how these films where shot, but never developed. I guess we are so use to instantly viewing and sharing digitally what we shot, the thought of not even developing the film is odd. The mystery lives on! Thanks again for the passion and positive attitude. We hope this channel grows and more people see the value of these films and film in general!
Thanks so much! It really is a giant mystery revealed when these films are processed and displayed. Would be so cool to find Joey and let him in on all these memories :)
Great video, thanks for posting it. I love these found film videos for lots of reasons. These sound ones are really interesting. Can't wait to see the next one.
Happy Anniversary to you and the Mrs! Mike this is a very interesting series and I really enjoy it! Thanks for all of your efforts putting these videos together.
Good morning, Mike! Just caught this latest installment of Joey’s swimming saga. :-) Yeah… if anybody came across all the footage I have of my boys playing soccer, they would have thought they’d be pro, too. (With all that time invested) Perhaps Joey went on to be a search and rescue swimmer in the Coast Guard, or transitioned into underwater work and became a SAT diver. Or… suffered PTSD from all the yelling and splashing at the pool and was a desk jockey all his life and would avoid water activities at all costs… lol Hopefully future found film will reveal the next step in his journey. Tune in next week - same time, same channel, as Joey does the unthinkable! 😮 Nice work, as always - looks great for being 4.5 decades old (not talking about us… the film!). Ha. And… congrats on the recent anniversary! Sounds like you had a good time. Keep on keeping on!
I could kick myself for not purchasing a sound 8 back in the day. I almost did but then got busy with life. Oh how I wish I had done so and also invested in about 1000 cartridges of sound Super 8 film when it was still being made! But just prior to the digital explosion, I figured sound 8 would be around forever. Doing numerous storage unit sell-offs and estate sales over the last few decades, exposed silent double 8 and Super 8 is somewhat easy to find. However, I've never found a single exposed sound 8 that I can recall.
Right there with you, Dale, I have so many "I wish I would haves" with film over the last 35 years or so. Funny thing is, in the early 90s I was gearing up to shoot a super 8 feature with sound film. I stockpiled about 80 rolls of sound Ektachrome 160 (interiors) and Kodachrome 40 (exteriors). Had a sound camera (can't remember which one) and a script. Sadly, we never did make the film and although I ended up shooting about half the film, I sold the rest. I guess it's never too late though, until it is, lol.
"JOEY"! Mike glad to talk to you again after Zero budget film school. It's a nice respite between the Charlie and Val promos. It's almost over. Getting ready for the Christmas rush next. I'm off to West Virginia deercamp as the official cinematographer. It didn't happen last year like it was supposed to. I'm shooting ISO 25. I'm shooting B&W what would you suggest for campfire and indoors lantern rumination. Not worried about color balance just exposure. Have a great election day
Good ole' Joey!! 😂 Yes, I like to vote, then go into hiding during the "political season" 😂😂 Have fun on your Deer Camp trip, I know it didn't work out last year but I have a good feeling about this one!!
We had a lot of fun! Enjoyed a slice at Vinnie Van GoGo's, dinner at Local 11Ten, miles of downtown walking & photos and of course, hours at Bonaventure. We definitely plan to return sometime.
I found something saying in 1973 they added the brown foil to the edge of the film to hold audio. Would that be correct? if so I don't see anything on the side of my film and like I said it was made in 1961 That should make copying this film much simpler.
Hi Rick, yes, they added a magnetic sound stripe to super 8 film in 1973 so that audio could be recorded directly to the film as you were filming. You had to use a camera that had an audio head and a projector that could play audio while showing the film. While they did add a magnetic strip to the film, they still made it without audio as well. In fact, silent film outlasted sound striped film after it was determined that the glue used in holding the magnetic strip down was an environmental hazard. If your super 8 film was made in 1961, it's definitely silent film. P.S. I love your camper rebuild!
Hi Mike, I would really like to see your retroscan sync unit. Excellent video.
all the best
Thanks, Robert!! I have the RetroSync on my video to-do list...hopefully soon!!

Thanks, Cecil! I too wonder sometimes why some of these are never processed. Sad really.

Miguel, I think the longer I watched the clearer it became. Maybe not but could it happen. Good #41
Thanks, Pop!!
How’d you like Savannah?? I’ve been living here for a year and I absolutely love shooting photos at Bonaventure
