Thoroughly enjoyed your tour. I had no idea a boat like this existed. Over here in the States we are overwhelmed with Ranger Tugs. I will have to compare MSRP sheets
I was prompted to watch this video (for a second time since it was posted) after just watching one on (one of) the larger version yesterday. Lovely looking boats.
This is a boat that I would happily do coastal cruising in areas with big ocean and rough seas. She has a very nice motion and you could sit on 12 - 16kts all day in big stuff and be fine.
Very pretty and well fitted out picnic boat. Looks as nice as a Sabre. Former owner of an Albin 27. Had the aft cabin version, flush cockpit, no motor box to walk around, Westerbeke 100hp 6 cyl naturally aspirated gave 12kts WOT but cruised best at 8kts burning stupid little fuel. Similar hull. Soft chine, full keel, basically a New England lobster boat below the waterline. A pocket trawler was the description of it. We averaged 30 nights a year on it for 13 years. If looking for another boat a picnic boat 28-32 would be in contention. Boating is in Bermuda so want something for overnighting.
I’m a woman, and I would enjoy sailing this little boat. It’s beautiful inside and outside, very easy size for a newbie to boating, nicely kitted out inside, and easy access to the engine.
Nice to see some female feedback so thanks! Agree with your points and she's also a boat that would make a newbie feel comfortable in a seaway as she runs pretty nicely.
Hey Jed! You would like what these guys are doing and I suspect a few similarities to what Back Cove and Sabre have going on in USA. Thanks as always for your support and look forward to catching up over summer mate!
Wow 🤩 Beautiful and well crafted design. Just perfect for those who enjoy river and coastal cruising. I live in the UK and love river or canals cruising. In an instance I could tell where it was made. ✨ 👏
Very nice, Yes! But hear me out....there is no space to move around inside. Stuff will be laying everywhere. Standing up in the toilet, nope! Forget it.
Welcome to England, Dan. What a splendid day cruiser you are reviewing...and such nice manners in that typical South Coast slop I remember. Some day you need to share with us the story of how you've come to wander all around Europe reviewing interesting boats. Too late in the season for the Dutch Canals...or a fjord or two?
Thanks Jack! I had a great few days and the scenery is super lovely down the south coast! I’m back in Sydney already but stay tuned as more European adventures will be coming in 2023 and yes I’ll start explaining my background at some point too. For now it’s back to Australia, New Zealand and Asia as was getting too cold for me in England. 😂
Thanks Adam! Back in Aus now but I did have a great time! England seems to have a lot more rules about everything since I was last there which was funny but absolutely enjoyable to see the South Coast and how beautiful it is!
@@BoatLife_DansBoatLife Adam? Glad you got back safe. Lots more rules in uk now sadly. Enjoy the freedom in AUS. Looking forward to seeing a few more UK boat videos.
Dan you’re in the UK!! I checked this out at Southampton Boat Show; beautiful. You get to test drive it of course 😂 Enjoy your stay and make sure you do a ‘meet the Patreons at next years Boat Show!
This particular motor was almost too powerful for the boat because as WOT the prop warp wanted to heel her over a bit. But at normal cruise in high teens she was sweet and just loved cutting up the chop. I would take the standard motor they offer and a bow/stern thruster and be so happy with that.
If you like a boat like this take a trip to Maine USA. They are all over the place and are called Downeasters. A Downeaster however is more of a sea boat.
So after this trip I actually did exactly that and spent a few weeks in Boothbay Maine and visiting Back Cove and Sabre Yachts. Easily one of my favourite parts of America I have seen so far. The whole boat culture, the physical beauty of the landscape and the fresh lobsters was awesome. I will return as that place is non stop boat porn.
Great information. I am wondering how loud the engine is based on where it is located on the boat. What are your thoughts on its location, and how it is insulated? Where is the exhaust located?
The engine box has very think insulation and so conversation is very comfortable at lower speeds. As with any boat, the faster you go, the louder she will be. Exhaust is located at the aft corner.
Oh This lil Duchy is perfect! I'd LOVE to have one. I'm not sure what happened when you were showing the galley but is there any sort of cooktop (alcohol stove) ? Video seems to skip right past it. Thank you!
Bonzer Dan. Excellent review of what this craft has to offer. I like your videos over and above many others because you actually put to sea and whilst underway we can get a true idea of what the running experience is really like. I also like the way that you put yourself in the scene so that we can see how the interior space "works". Other 'experts' wave the camera about badly and from behind the camera show a cursory half-baked explanation arising from little relevant first-hand experience of boating. These days, fuel cost (hence range) practicality and value per wave are key.
Thanks Jonathan! I actually think my videos can complement some of the walkthrough videos which are on RUclips as they are able to get more content out for you guys in a shorter time which is useful for people who just want a first look. I'm hoping that my videos can help educate people who have decided on their shortlist and now want to understand more detail and how she drives etc. Thanks for your feedback though as i'm keen to continue with this see where we can take it
I was surprised to see an England-built boat with a port-side helm. In the USA, despite almost all cars and trucks having left-hand drive, most of our boats have starboard helms, so it looks quite different.
Beautiful boat. I would sleep on this boat once in a while. But, how much would a boat like this cost? I like the cabin and head doors. They look genuinely secure.

Yes I was thinking the same! Check with Cockwells as i'm unsure in USD. Also when I was there the Pound crashed against the USD so whatever it was it's now considerably cheaper for Americans. It was all they were talking about on the news when I was there, seemed like a big deal at the time.
Yeah, that was a long time coming. I always wanted to stand on the deck where Lord Nelson fell. Maybe now is the time. Fly over and pilot my Duchy 27 back across the pond.

30 years ago I brought a Roberts longboat and loved it, but the Duchy 27 is what pure excellence is, if i could afford to buy one I would.

Hmm yes I guess that suited this design best for them? Not sure if there was any specific reason for this or not?
stbd helm lets you see boats coming from your right more easily; the boats you have to give way to.
The idea here is to pass boats port to port and see passing vessels clearly.
