First saw Joes' work on Excalibur. I think he was still in high school at the time. This is before he did the Deadpool limited series, which was just fantastic. Been a fan ever since. Still think Battle Chasers was his best work. It was so original and different from anything else being put out at the time. Such great characters.

I actually found Joe Mad's stuff because of his work on the Darksiders franchise, which led me to Battle Chasers and his work with Marvel. I really admire how he manages to consistently stylize his characters' anatomy in a way that feels dynamic rather than just strange. But anyways, I really just wanted to tell you that I find your insight and videos to be extremely valuable, and as a final note, have you ever looked at some of Valiant Entertainment's newer stuff? They've got some really great artists and writers.

Thank you so much for spotlighting the Cliffhanger crew! They are stylistic titans! For me, Joe Mad was the King Boss of Bosses. My first introduction to his work was his Age of Apocalypse book 'Astonishing X-Men' from '96. His redesign of Sunfire was crazy awesome...

joe mad is my third fav artist, at the time these books came out he was def my #1... in fact i'm pretty surprised to hear battle chasers was the lowest-selling of the original 3 cliffhanger books, i would have never guessed that since his art was so off the hook! i discovered him during the Age of Apocalypse stuff during the 90's and been a fan ever since. thanks for this video man, and since you asked for suggestions i'd say anything Geof Darrow if you're into it. 👍

It would be cool to see you review some manga, I know it's not for everybody, but I've been getting into it a lot lately. Stuff like Takehiko Inoue on Vagabond, Hiroaki Samura on blade of the immortal, Takeshi Obata on all you need is kill, Boichi on Sun Ken Rock, Inio Asano on goodnight punpun, and even Tsutomu Nihei on blame or his new series Aposimz. Too much great stuff so little time.

I can't remember where I first discovered Joes work but it was likely either through Wizard magazine or his PSM (playstation magazine) covers. Fell in love with his work back then.

This one was one of the first books I was amazed by the digital colorists work. The were some image things out at the time I was also impressed by. For the use of graphics programs. And the potential of digitally formatted story telling.

Really digging these storytellers segments! Would love to see you cover artists like Jerome Opeña, Zach Howard (The Cape, Wild Blue Yonder), Greg Tocchini, Dragotta (East of West), or Roger Ibáñez (Jazz Maynard). Either way I'll keep watching, thanks for the great content.

I brought the trade book back in the day. And it blew my mind. The action leap off the pages. Too bad it left on a cliffhanger...lol

This was a ton of fun, when it comes to joe battle chasers was my first experience way back in 98, the game is pretty cool too, and although joe's got the crazy technical-cartoony " ameri-manga" style It would be interesting to hear your thoughts on the straight up whimsy of Sean galloway...

Hi Richard. I'd really like to get into contact with you regarding getting started with a story I created some time ago. But i haven't gotten far in it's development unfortunately with it really. Joe Mad is one of my main inspirations for my art & i really wish I had him as a personal teacher for my art development. I first learned about Joe Mad and his incredible skills in the Uncanny X-men titles back in 95 when he & Townsend worked on those really awesome X-men books. Do you get any chance to read instagram messages?

My first exposure to Joe Mad was in the comic store checking out his X-Men covers but I didn't become a fan until Battle Chasers. But no, I don't play the game either.
