  • Hey!
Welcome to the review of the Shiitake Twinzer by Panda Surfboards!
    I've been riding the Shiitake Twinzer as a 6'7 x 20 1/4 x 2 11/16 - 41.07L
The Shiitake Twinzer has been a great board across a wide range of conditions as it works well in from 1-2ft rip bowls, and also in 6-8ft solid surf as it works like a step-up.
    From www.pandasurfb...
A performance fish shape designed to be ridden from 6'0 - 7'0.
This design came about from wanting to ride some longer boards and still keep some performance built into them and also wanting a shape bigger guys could also use and rip on.
The Shiitake is flat enough in the front to get a good amount of glide while paddling combined with a healthy amount of concaved vee running out the tail to allow this board to stay very maneuverable.
The Shiitake will excel best in waves from shoulder high plus. This board has been designed to work as a twinzer, twin, quad or thruster so take your pick.
In the Shiitake Twinzer I have been riding the Futures Fins T1 twin fins.
    From futuresfins.co...
The T1 Twin +1 is Future's twin-fin design for down the line drive, speed and smooth rail-to-rail feel that modern twin-fin surfing is known for.
Made with honeycomb construction, the medium flex pattern offers a softer feel than fins from solid fiberglass, helping to create additional lift and drive in softer conditions.
The set is equipped with the option to ride with a small trailer fin for increased stability, creating more of a thruster feel.
Template Category | Neutral (balanced, all-around)
    Construction | Honeycomb
    Size | Medium Twin +1

I had a couple of waves on a Hot Buttered (yup, they're still around!) So Cal Twinzer and holy crap it was amazing. Have wanted one ever since. Love your vids BTW!!

My fav board from my youth was a Blue Hawaii Twinzer circa 1991. Great to aee another Twinzer in action. That fin configuration kinda disappeared. Something special about it.

Epic! It feels pretty special under foot, one of my faves, especially in a board of this size...

Normally wouldn’t consider boards this big, but it sounds like it’s worth checking out 👍

Definitely - while i love a good shortboard, they don't work everywhere...

Surfed one of my dedicated 4boxes as a Twinzer it’s a winged bat tail I found that in very clean 2-3+ bowly beach break that the board had a great amount of hold and release but it really wanted to turn flat when I put it over the lip and it really surfed well off the front or back foot but generated speed like crazy off the front foot. I constantly had to remind myself it’s less of a quad (which I don’t ride much) and definitely not a thruster (what I normally ride) and more of a twin (which I have zero experience with) it certainly was an exciting experience the amount of hold plus release just need to try it out more I think I don’t really know if I’ll ride that board as a quad for a while again

It's a new experience - but definitely a lot of fun feeling out new things like this.
      What fins did you use?

The Surfboard Guide the mr tx as the twin and the fcs gl with the flat inside foils as the leading fins or side bites I guess! All are glass flex too which I think helps a bit for me learning to ride a new setup. Works pretty fun in some small or open faced waves just have to keep myself from trying to put my fins over the lip it’s not a tri fin. Would love to try it in some bigger or even more open faced surf too bad I live by a beach break that doesnt hold properly over about 4 foot unless the stars align. The struggles of living in California have to travel to get proper good surf usually.

Hey Craig - love the review and just ordered a 6'10 myself. I was curious about fins, have you tried any other fins and any guidance on going with larger vs smaller twin fins? The T1s are definitely on the smaller side for twins.

Funnily enough - I’ve just got some specific Twinzer fins from Panda, and they are really small and stumpy, so it proves you don’t need a big fin.
He is working on something I believe with futures, so hopefully a specific fin in the near future!

This board is fun as it gets. I have a quad setup and would love to try it as a twinzer...do yourself a favor and add it to the quiver!

Thanks for the review... How do you feel it would go in epic decent sized barrelling conditions.?

    • @TheSurfboardGuide
      @TheSurfboardGuide  3 года назад +2

Good - I rode it in bigger barreling waves since the review and it's epic - kind of like a step-up, very manoeuvrable etc. Great board!

Great review mate . Board looks sick 🤙🏼 . Is the footage in the northern beaches? Also, are the rails from the centre to the nose thick, like say the CA biscuit?

Thanks mate! yeah, all local around the NB.
Yeah, quite think from center through to the beak, holding quite a lot of volume.

That'd be great - but personally i want it longer! Maybe even 7'6!

I feel like it should have a single fin box?

    • @TheSurfboardGuide
      @TheSurfboardGuide  4 года назад

Nah - I think that would take away from the whole unique performance of this board. The Twinzer setup is what really makes it!
