Instead of a static number like 25m for a platinum run, the deviation allowed should be proportional to the length of the line. So a 30km straight line with 0.1% deviation allowed for platinum would be 30m, but a 3km straight line would only allow 3m.

More than merely sticking with him but actually supporting him in the missions themselves! I imagine this would take up a lot of time where she can't schedule anything else
wtf this is totally standard behaviour from a genuine partner, if your partner wouldn't do this for you they are just taking you for a ride and want an easy life
I love that you're doing this one alone, that was one of the reasons the first straight line mission is still my favorite. When you're talking to the camera more it feels more immersive, like we are there too, instead of just spectating two of you doing the mission
(Age of Empires villager dying sound) is definitely in the top 5 subtitles I’ve ever read in my life lmao. Glad to see the great progress of day 1 Tom and can’t wait for the next few days/videos of adventure. You’re a legend!
I'm just hoping that the previous bad mission experiences that you've had with farmers/farmland haven't driven you into the arms of a different branch of line-destroying-peril (mountains)! Rooting for you Tom!
I think Archie's run is sort of invalidated by the immense support he had from people who were not on the line. You can trivialize so many of the obstacles when someone is always there to pull you over or across them. I much prefer your pure missions, much more of a challenge.
Yeah, whats to stop you from catching a ride on a motocross, quadbike or motorboat for certain sections. Having camps or RVs set up already for you with ready cooked food and stuff. Having people carry ladders, ropes, climbing equipment and building temporary bridges. Having pre-planted supply drops of food and batteries feels absolutely fine and pretty much necessary. You could reduce the need of those if you didn't film anything yourself and had a camera crew, but that would also ruin the whole point of these runs.
it's still a completion of the challenge, not an invalidation. just a different strategy maybe is a better way of looking at it. I do think that geowizards version is more entertaining and much more of a feat of endurance and classic survivalism though
In the FKT world, which involves running, hiking, biking, etc, there are generally 3 categories for this stuff. unsupported(you start with everything you use during the trip), self supported(you drop things along the way before you start), and supported(you have a crew that meets you along the way). Technically, any outside support is supported so the amount of the support doesn't matter. Tom is still taking outside support from Verity, so they would be in the same category.
@@CRneu Same category but different levels, Tom keeps things pure, raw, and organic. He's always kept things on the lower end, even though he could easily pay a crew to help him for 4 days with various tasks, he does things the bare minimum. Big difference between his work and those other boys.
Verity is a real one, so glad to be watching another straight line mission! So much has changed since I watched your first one, it's good to sit down and have a breather
Me and my friends have managed to make a drinking game around your straight line missions and we’ve used it for every single one since you started. I just wanted to say a big thank you for that and keep up the good work!!!
Thank you for your straight line videos, they've really inspired me to get out there and explore. I live on a small town close to the coast, and after an umpteenth rewatch of the Wales attempts, I decided to explore the beach west of it, and kept walking further and further every day the tide allowed it, going from my first walk of 2km to my record of 15km, along a rocky and algae-y beach between the cliffs and the sea, it's such a beautiful and peaceful place to be, I've probably walked 70km in February and about 50 in March in total (compared to maybe 5 in January). These walks are tough but so refreshing at the same time, it feels like trading psychological pain for physical pain, my mind is much clearer after each walk
I love this series. The scope of the adventure couldn't be simpler, literally from point A to B, but it's got it all. Man vs nature, man vs man (farmer), and man vs self.
Oh look! It's the best series on RUclips back again! It's mental how invested we all are watching Tom on his probably final attempt of this iconic mission, hyped already for the next episode
I treasure special days like these and I always make a very special evening when new Straight line mission comes out. Thanks for the content! P.S.: Can't write a comment without appreciating gem of a woman that Verity is!
Easily one of my favorite series on RUclips...Which is kinda wild when you think hundreds of hours of content are uploaded very minute, but there's just something fascinating about this kind of adventure. It sounds boring, like a guy walking across a country in a straight line, is a very basic premise, yet somehow becomes this exciting adventure with oddly anxious moments, like sneaking by farmers or crossing more dangerous parts like Rivers. The first trip was how I discovered this channel and I'm glad I did. Keep up the work and I hope this is the one!
You probably don't know how valuable English captions are to foreign speakers. I used the 'autotranslate' function and was able to watch this with my girlfriend who doesn't speak a word of English (she loved it btw). It's very important that the source for this translation is impeccable, and it looks like it translated to Spanish perfectly.
Not gonna lie I was secretly hoping this would be another country, and my mind somehow remembered Attempt 3 as a complete success. But I'll be here the whole way!
Just want to say there was a certain charm to the old 4:3 ratio. Obviously nothing wrong with the new one if you sort the camera position, thats how basically every yt video is, but 4:3 gave these a really unique look and vibe. Up to you though, good either way :)
I still remember when the first episode of the straight line challenge came out. Its amazing where this saga has led, and I can't imagine where things will be in the future. You're a true adventurer Tom, and I think I speak for everyone here when I say that these are always incredibly entertaining, no matter the outcome.
Oh I'm so delighted this is back! The first Wales mission was how I was introduced to your channel, and it's still by far my favourite series of yours. Your spirit is absolutely unmatched. The grit and determination you have, as well as your staying true to how you intended this challenge to be when you first started it, is incredible to watch and deserves so much respect. No matter how this ends, or if someone else beats you to it, undoubtedly none of them would be doing it if it hadn't been for you. No one does adventure like GeoWizard. Can't wait to see how the rest of the trip goes!
I've watched every single one of these, the last 2 on release. It always makes me happy, seeing you released a new video. It brings me peace somehow. Your narrating, the views, the sense of adventure, the stress of interactions with farmers! It all comes together in thus wholesome format that you've created. Thanks for bringing some solace in this world of stress!
Fantastic episode. At the beginning I was a bit unsure of the faster rhythm of the editing since I am a fan of the slower, contemplative mood of the previous missions. But I have to say, I really love the more mountainous landscape of this line and its challenges. Much less of “will they catch me?” and much more straightlining in the wild
Every time I watch one of your new mission videos I end up binge watching at least 1 full other series afterward! Tom, you're such a great storyteller its hard to put into words.
Love all you do tom, in future hope you think ab returning to the 4:3 ratio, idk why but I think it really added to the video. It really fits with the 16 bit music
YES!!! IT'S BACK!!! I had to check several times this wasn't a repeat that had come up on my news feed. Arguably the greatest RUclips channel in existence!
I'm full of admiration for your determination and fitness, and also for your obvious love of wild country and the outdoors, and your gratitude for being able to be out in it. You're a fine example to all younger people. Bravo!
for me, you're a champion of the spirit, really displaying the resolve and stubbornness of man and getting right back up after failure, each hurdle you overtake on the line is a small victory for all of us, keep on walking in a straight line and we'll follow suit. love the content
I always nibbled something sweet constantly when walking longer than 4 hours. Mint cake, energy tablets, jelly or anything sweet just slowly nibble away. Or make up a drink with 'feed' in it. I have noticed a lot of youtubers eat horridly when doing these type of thing too but the wizard at least eats well, he just needs more sugar through the day.
Absolutely incredible as always tom, but I just wanted to mention that I really loved the 4:3 aspect ratio! Wonder if you’d ever consider returning to it in the future, gives me a warm fuzzy feeling alongside the 16-bit adventure music and gorgeous welsh landscapes. Much love!
It's become a bit of a winter tradition in our household to watch your new missions. We even have special meals we like to eat while watching them. Thanks a lot Tom, you're a legend! Stay safe.
This series never seems to disappoint. I have been following your channel since the origins of this series - the straight line series, and I've been loving it throughout these years! ❤
Mate I started watching your first trip across Wales just after the release of the first video with Storror. I'm loving it so much. I finished the review of the 3rd attempt yesterday and noticed this pop up out of seemingly nowhere. What a blessing. These videos resonate with me so much, it's such a delight to watch and I hope that I can present myself with an opportunity (and the drive) to do the same one day. Phenomenal stuff, much love to Verity for always being the MVP
Get in Tom! Great to see your new adventure already! Either this mission fail or succeed, you are then one who came up with this mad journey :) Thank you for all the fun an excitement!
I love seeing you walk through Wales again! Also I just wanted to say: While I prefer the old aspect ratio, the slightly lowered camera fits the tryhard nature of this mission. Thanks for taking us on the trip!
Man Tom that's the most impressive day's hiking I've seen. Didn't think you could impress me more after the football kicking challenge but this is bloody outstanding. Well done lad, psyched for the next part.
Yes! A bit late to say good luck Tom, you've been finished for three months now, but I'm hoping for a big celebration at the end of the video. I'm sure Welsh Greg was here in spirit every step of the way, legend that he is.
At someone who knows their geography and their way around google maps/earth very well, I can definitively say that the line Tom had chosen for attempt 4 is the most physically challenging line that any straight-line mission has ever been on thus far! Absolutely wild stuff, editing was world-class as always. Props to Verity, can’t wait for day 2!!

More than merely sticking with him but actually supporting him in the missions themselves! I imagine this would take up a lot of time where she can't schedule anything else
True true love right there.
nah, Tom said "Verity is basically just a walking stash point"
wtf this is totally standard behaviour from a genuine partner, if your partner wouldn't do this for you they are just taking you for a ride and want an easy life
The music, the landscape, the full camo. For some reason it’s quite nostalgic and I can’t wait for this 4th attempt
I love that you're doing this one alone, that was one of the reasons the first straight line mission is still my favorite. When you're talking to the camera more it feels more immersive, like we are there too, instead of just spectating two of you doing the mission
Agreed. Alone is always the most entertaining to me. I love the feeling of isolation and introspection.
I think Tom has figured out the perfect formula, doing these challenges alone, and bringing friends along for the more human-centered missions.
Verity does not get enough credit. What a stellar human being! Thanks for the great videos you two!
@@santosjohnson6401 it's not really a different strategy; more so an entirely different (read: lesser) challenge.
Love the idea of visiting valleys that are rarely seen by humans. Really inspiring as always, thanks Tom!
Me and my friends have managed to make a drinking game around your straight line missions and we’ve used it for every single one since you started. I just wanted to say a big thank you for that and keep up the good work!!!
I'm loving how much this feels like Wales 1
A narrator who's superior to Tolkien. A soundtrack that resonates with childhood afternoons. Greatest RUclips channel ever
We appreciate all that you do for our entertainment Tom, can’t wait to see what this short series holds in store! 😁
Great video. Sad to see the 4:3 ratio go :(
You probably don't know how valuable English captions are to foreign speakers.
Glad you're taking biltong with you! Gives you all the energy you need for the Trek.
This serious lifted your channel to the next level. You sir have popularized geography in a major scale, with multiple mainstream collabs. Thank you
This series might just be my favorite series on all of youtube. The adventure is so entertaining for some reason
Just want to say there was a certain charm to the old 4:3 ratio. Obviously nothing wrong with the new one if you sort the camera position, thats how basically every yt video is, but 4:3 gave these a really unique look and vibe. Up to you though, good either way :)
That's really cool that the young uns gave you the chance to do it first before their attempt. Hopefyully both yours and theirs will be successful.
I love this group of straight line missioners. Cheers to Marcus, Tom and all the others. Yall are incredibly inspirational.
Agreed!! All legends!
There are very few things in the world that give me as much joy as this series and your narration. God Bless!
4:3 aspect ratio was so clean! Keep that in my opinion! nostalgic and nice format for this type of content
Get in!! I fucking love Wales. There's something about the terrain that just makes it special for these missions.
We don't share that sentiment about the English.
@@numbersstationsarchive194 he said Wales, not the Welsh
@@holliswilliams8426 Believe it or not, the Welsh live in Wales.
This honestly may just be my favorite series on youtube. When I see you upload another Mission, everything else gets put on hold for an hour lol
Never ever will we have had enough man. Please, for the love of all that is holy, don’t stop
What a surprise to see this pop on on RUclips! Did not expect to be blessed with this quality content again. Amazing work Tom
YES!!! IT'S BACK!!! I had to check several times this wasn't a repeat that had come up on my news feed. Arguably the greatest RUclips channel in existence!
Over the past week I have binged all your straight line challenges.
This is the best timing ever haha
Same! @storror brought me here haha
Couldn't hardly wait for this, thank you Tom, you made my Saturday!
Will never get enough of these mate, seen all the Wales attempts, storror did a smashing job
Here we go again! Get it done Tom mate! Can’t wait to see you succeed lad ❤

The best series on RUclips is BACK !! LETS GOOOOOOO 🔥🔥 gwarn Tom, you’ve got it this time
Get in Tom! Great to see your new adventure already! Either this mission fail or succeed, you are then one who came up with this mad journey :) Thank you for all the fun an excitement!
been following your journeys since the first attempt in wales, this truly is one of the best channels out there!
BackYard Farm?
I love seeing you walk through Wales again! Also I just wanted to say: While I prefer the old aspect ratio, the slightly lowered camera fits the tryhard nature of this mission. Thanks for taking us on the trip!
Absolute gold.. no platinum watching these!! Can't believe you've gone back again - love it!! Thanks :)
Love how this has become a seasonal tradition at this point
Not gonna lie this is probably my favorite youtube series ever, i was there since the start of the series and it feels so nostalgic.
I’m WORRIED.
you dont need to know geography or google maps well to know that trailing up and down mountains is more physically challenging than farmland
Check Archie Fieldhouse’s Scotland line
Challenge aside, the beauty of the landscape and the nature in the UK is absolutely stunning. (I'm from the Netherlands so any piece of land above 20 metres amazes me)
After a long wait, here it is! Can't wait to see what happens Tom!
YES; the GeoWizard returns to his roots, and I for one am so excited to see this mission and hopefully any others. Great stuff!!
Cannot understate just how hyped I am for this.
Hands down the absolute best series on RUclips!!!!
What a beautiful series this is. Feels like Christmas.
