I have no problem with the Mr. Miyagi backstory at all. Unlike Star Wars, the writers aren't trying to retcon or disrespect the Miyagi Legacy. They're actually trying to enrich and expand on the legacy. That's why they introduced his box of secrets. But sadly, many people think the writers were trying to raise the question "Oooh, was Mr. Miyagi a villain?" when they were actually giving us answers to why Mr. Miyagi was the way he was, blemishes and all. This story is necessary for Daniel (and us) to understand that Mr. Miyagi is capable of having a spotty/flawed past, and still be worth respect and admiration. Daniel needs to learn he can still look up to Mr. Miyagi as a father, without worshipping him like a flawless idol. I'm excited to find out how Daniel will overcome, arguably, his biggest flaw. I trust the writers. They've carried the show this far.
retcon what? luke was going to strike vader down if palpatine didn't open his big mouth luke is not a saint and neither is miyagi both are flawed characters that grew and tried doing better danielle la pusso just romanticizes miyagi and is obsessed with him
@@Freydale In no way at no time did I ever feel Barnes was better than Johnny. I don't know where this idea that Barnes is better came from. But he isn't. It's this fact that makes Karate Kid 3 MUCH worse than Karate Kid. The villain Johnny is MUCH better. Barnes was a wuss. He had to have his gang with him. Then in the tournament he doesn't last nearly as long as Johnny did vs Daniel.
Miyagi was a war veteran and a killer who had clearly been in a lot of fights before he even left Japan and even more of them after. This is why he teaches Daniel san to not fight and that it leads nowhere. This is why he has secluded himself and become somewhat of a hermit. He was always a good person though. Nothing that came out in this story has changed that and I'm sure there will be more of a justification for what happened later.
Yeah listening to alot of vets who come home, especially after being in the heat of combat. Something they always talk about is that fight still being in them, that being out of one just doesn’t feel right. It takes them quite a bit of time to find themselves adapting back and settling their fight down too. As such Miyagi could have been very similar. Serving in the war, being captured on a certain battlefield, learning of the loss of his family and while he may of settled in America it wasn’t going to be easy for a young Asian guy who fought for the Japanese to get far. As such him being more reckless and violent early in his life as ways to just let out that fight, get himself hurt or killed to rejoin his family and just get buy in life itself, yeah it’s likely a dark start. But we see where it ends. And Daniel in many ways needs this lesson too of learning that a man’s past and life don’t define where they are going to go in years to come especially when their priorities change. - a lesson he needs to learn so he can accept a certain Eagle who’s past may be dubious but his growing family seems to be helping him rearage his priorities and life.
@@reecedignan8365 He fought for the americans, not the Japanese. His wife died in an internment camp in the US. She was put there for being japanese while he was away fighting for his new home country. It was pretty screwed up even in the original movie if you were paying attention.
@@anarchclown hell same thing, you come back and not only do you learn your family died in interment, you also still get discriminated against for your Asian heritage - let’s just say not many really made a distinction between most cultures. Hell we saw it on the European front too where a lot of Americans couldn’t tell Czech, Polish and other such foreign legion troops in the German army from actual Germans so kind of treated them all similar until they found out otherwise.
@@anarchclown Yeah people don't understand Okinawa wasn't always exactly in good relations with Japan. Many times Japan tried to invade them. In fact, China had better relations with Okinawa. In fact, that's where Karate came from. From business trade relations between China and Okinawa. In Okinawa it was called Tou De which means Chinese Hand. This is next China sent scholars to RyuKyu Kingdom in Okinawa as good will and two Kung fu styles, Xing Yi Quan and Southern White Crane were the foundation for Tou De. Thenin the 20's Japan sent its Olympic head coach and head Judo person to Okinawa to scout some masters and they brought over Chojun Miyagi of Goju-Ryu and Gichin Funokoshi of Shotokan, and it was Gichin who changed the name to Karate. So Mr Miyagi was named after Chojun since Chojun's student taught Robert Mark Kamen the writer of the original Karate Kid movie. And so he made Mr Miyagi Okinawan as such and let's not forget the United States occupied Okinawa for decades before they allowed Japan to get it.
Wow true…. In addition the writers know and care about, the original writers, the fandom the characters and universe…. These writers respect it all… they dont go around saying “it’s my story!” Like the acolyte writer.
The fact that Barnes was able to keep up with Johnny and actually fight really well against him considering he hasn’t trained since 85 is kinda crazy, shows just how badass he is. Unfortunately he has been sidelined compared to the other legacy characters. I wish he would’ve officially joined Johnny and Daniel as a full-Sensei to the dojo
Barnes losing actually made a ton of sense. Man’s arc was how he hadn’t been himself, been the national champion akin to Daniel and Johnny in the beginning of the series where Johnny was a washed up maintenance man and Daniel a car salesman, neither had been practicing as they could have, now it’s Barnes’ turn.
@@Artryom not to mention, Johnny’s been training as well as adding Miyagi Do to his style. Totally believable. The one that won’t make sense is Miguel or Robby somehow beating Kwon. That dude clearly looks lightyears ahead of both of them.
Totally agree it made sense, and with all your points. Which is why it made zero production sense for the producers to make Mike wear a black belt with like 10 stripes or so during the eliminations. That's 10th dan. A super high rank earned by continuous training, and one Mike shouldn't even be able to reach at his age yet. And then they make him lose to Johnny?
@@jacobcouch5942 its not like he knocked him out or drew blood so I wouldn't say destroyed. Either way Mike was off his game. Once Mike gets back in the groove Johnny will be the one conceding.
based on what do you make that conclusion that Barnes is better? Last season finale Barnes was taken out in the final fight instantly. Meanwhile Johnny took on and beat 5 guts at once! And lasted much longer.
The Miyagi box is definitely a way to tie in the Next Karate Kid. When Miyagi is at Julie’s father’s funeral, they introduce him as Keisuke Miyagi, the same name in the article in the box. Maybe Miyagi used his brothers name or was an alias when he was training Julie’s father.
I thought it was good for the most I didn't understand why Tory never tried to talk to Robby after her mother died and I think if Daniel would've let the fight with Tory and Sam go on Tory would've stayed in myiagi do he's starting get really annoying.
The one thing I don't like about this show is that the characters overreact and jump to conclusions all the time. They switch sides every 5 seconds because they don’t communicate or explain things. Even though everyone is meant to be good, they swap sides and start to hate their friends that they were just "ride or die" with over simple misunderstandings. Very few of the characters are just actual villains that we can root against like in the movies.
@@ilkvomit88I,agreed but hawk was the third best in the first four that shouldn’t randomly change cause they don’t want to focus on him he still should be a elite fighter not a meh one.
I also wasn't a fan of Mike losing (and I am still not), but when I saw that Johnny had to use Miyagi-do to defeat him+ the fact that Barnes hasn't trained Karate in DECADES while Johnny has for the past 4ys makes it more believable. Still would have perferred Mike to win tho.
@@micahbell5572 I am pretty sure it more than that. Miguel eas 15 when he met Johnny and was about to start highschool and now he is graduating. I think even Sam noted in the new episodes how they were just cutting frogs and now they are Graduating
I will say this was my favorite season for Johnny. You see him accepting letting go and trying to change for Daniel as well as trying to progress with his family and keeping Robby and Miguel together. I do hate the season being broken into parts because only 5 episodes wasn’t enough for me lol. I am excited for more but so far this season wasn’t my favorite
It bugged me so much for Chozen and Mike to not be with the team while they are at Sekai Taikai! They watched their students grow and taught them so much and then all of a sudden Chozen just dips back to Okinawa and I don’t even know what happened to Mike
I actually like Miyagi's backstory. It makes him more relatable because everyone has a past. The letter Kimiko reads to Daniel hints at this and shows that Daniel coming into his life helped him grow, accept himself, and find balance with his darker side.
The thing about Daniel is so fast to pass judgement on anybody no matter who or what the circumstances are and once he does he don't care what they do or did
They ruined Johnnys legacy more than anything. Him training in Miyagi do and working for Larusso... wtf. They just makes him 2nd banana forever. This series started about him and Cobra kai. He should've gotten his old dojo back and have Miguel, Robby, Devon, and Tory fight for him. Eagle Fang was always stupid btw. Imagine how epic it could've been if it was Johnnys honorable Cobra Kai vs Kreeses no mercy Cobra Kai. The writers get praised all the time, but they missed a home run and just ruined Johnnys legacy... and Mr Miyagis.
I like Miyagi's backstory arc. Daniel has always beem about "Miyagi wouldn't like this or Miyagi wouldn't have done this". Showing Miyagi isn't perfect would truly make Daniel understand that perfection doesn't exist.
Some things I liked: everyone (mostly) now on the same team; new, more badass opponents in the Koreans; the return of Mike Barnes and acknowledgement that he was a national champion; Robby getting a much deserved win for once; and a new, supposedly much different kind of tournament to look forward to. Some things I didn't like: Daniel and Johnny fighting again (it's just getting old); Tori suddenly joining Cobra Kai (though I get it); the subplot with Kenny, though I think it will get resolved; Barnes losing to Johnny, but it does make sense because Johnny has been training (and fighting) the last two years and has learned some Miyagi-do; and yes, the backstory with Miyagi kinda sucks but I think the writers have earned our trust so we'll see where this is going.
The Sekai Tekai arena being that small compared to what everyone thought it would be was mad disappointing. It's not just that too, the entire format of it is disappointing for how only six people for each Dojo can compete, The 1v1 ruleset for the finals, and of course, the way the story kept telling us that the tournament was going to be dangerous, and that 'People have died' and yet once we see it, turns out it's just a small room, with people who look completely normal if not inconsequential. We literally know no one's names there except Kuon and that one other Korean guy that was the previous ace of the Dojo. And thinking of how other forms of media handle and build up their big tournaments from Dragon Ball to even a game like Tekken, it's clear from a presentation perspective, the Sekai Tekai fails at both scale and depth to warrant what we now know is the finale arc.
The thing about Tori going to Kreese, is that she was always really close with him, and just felt betrayed when he left even though it really wasn’t his fault. She knew that, and when they stopped the fight between her and Sam, that was simply the last straw for her.
I thought that was kinda a dick move. It's one thing to stop the fight but it seemed like they barely even waited 5 minutes to replace her with Hawk instead of thinking maybe she's just lashing out in the heat of the moment because she's grieving.
@@kityhawk2000 I hate how they just selected the roster. Why not have them all fight each other? And they didn't even let the 6 who made it fight it out to determine who the captain should be. Devon was never given a shot to be captain. And Hawk needed to earn his spot. If he's better then he can beat everybody.
I think this first part was pretty okay, I also didn’t like how rushed it felt with them going to Spain, and somehow Tory getting there really fast as well, not to mention kreese somehow going to Korea even though he’s a fugitive. Mike losing to Johnny really bothered me at first but I’m starting to come around to it given the current state of the characters and how they’ve been training. I agree with you on S1-S4 being peak of the show, I hope it gets less goofy in the next two parts.
I thought it was really weird no one would bother trying to talk to Tory instead of just accepting her rage quitting when they knew her mom had just died. It would have made more sense if they didn't know because this way makes them all look like dicks. "Like soz about your mom but good news for you Hawk you're on the team now" it's also weird that Hawk got in that way because if this is meant to be a boys and girls tournament I'd have thought they'd need 3 of each?
One thing that has never been addressed. And even in Karate kid 2 was overlooked. Miyagi was married and lost a child and his wife (as depicted in KK1). This is likely I think to be the background to his darker past.
My exact thoughts as well for this first part of Season 3. Hopefully things will be ramping up for the next two parts. With the Miyagi name change revelation in that passport of his, I think this was the showrunners fixing that flaw that apparently was in The Next Karate Kid movie where in the opening scene when Miyagi was getting that military medal/award, when they announce his name in that scene it was his actual wrong name. The producers of the movie chalked it up to a mistake/blunder but the showrunners of Cobra Kai decided to go with it and to put that into cannon.
I remember binging seasons 1 and 2 after seeing an ad on youtube in 5th grade, now I'm starting college. Always watched your videos related to it and great to see you back
You are feeling exactly what you're supposed to be feeling. What Daniel is feeling. Confused, angry, hungry for answers. Miyagi has a secret. And they left you wanting to know what it is. Sounds like good writing to me.
Dude, Miyagi stole a black belt on the very first movie. I don't get why a lot of people are so shocked about it 😂 He even made Daniel drive without a license.
Something about the Johnny and Mike fight to consider is that during the last part of the fight, Johnny was blocking his hits using what he learned from Miyagi-Do. If you look at how he does it, it looks very much like wax on/wax off set of blocks
Lots of interpersonal conflicts and arcs were resolved and wrapped by the finale of Season 5 and should have been a nice way to end the series... But Netflix wanted more money so we have Season 6... well now they are forced to artificially create conflict between characters which had them.resolved in seasons past and we are not buying it. I love these characters, I love this universe but I just wish they could have wrapped up Seaso 5 as the series Finale instead of dragging us artificially into Zombified Season 6 which we didn't need
My guess is that Miyagi didn't "steal" the necklace as much as reclaim it. It was probably lost or in desperation he had to pawn it. Of course "finder's keepers", and perhaps at the time, the possessor of the necklace was probably even heartless enough to punctuate his refusal to return the necklace with a few era-appropriate slurs. Miyagi might have made several attempts, each more desperate than the last to reclaim the necklace the "right" way, until he was left no choice. Of course, the necklace had to have some extreme value, like belonging to his late wife or something. I mean, honestly, Daniel has done worse. Assaulting a hockey team a few seasons ago? Sure, the moment itself was badass, "no be there" and all that, but from said hockey team's perspective, Daniel escalated that to a physical confrontation. If they wanted to make the incident make headlines, it easily could be spun into a bad light for him.
Daniel's just caught up because of the Miyagi stuff. It'd be like Leslye Headland finding out about Harvey Weinstein.... if she didn't know that side of him and wasn't in on it 😂
@@26exaltedsov And does Johnny respect Daniel? Johnny tried to take Daniel employees. In this very season. He wanted to take Miguel and Robby to do extra training in his own dojo in the very first episode of season 6.
I've always enjoyed Cobra Kai ever since seeing the first season, but I don't know, there was just a lotta stuff here that I wasn't a huge fan of. From how they handle certain plot points like Johnny and Daniel's constant bickering to even just the narrative decisions they went with like the trials they did to select the top 6, there's a lot of things I just didn't think were well handled or had the necessary foundation to be expanded upon in the second and third part, and have it be concluded successfully. And there's other things too where I can see and even enjoy certain plot points they brought to the season like Tory developing a positive relationship with Sam and Miyagi-do before breaking down entirely from the loss of her mother and Devon's Drive to prove herself, causing her to do some pretty shitty things, but I wish they expanded on those two parts with more interactions between them and the cast so that they would hit harder. (Also, I find it dumb how no one chased off for Tory after she stormed out like that from the time the fight was happening to the day afterwards like what). I would expand on my points more with actual examples but I want to just get this comment out first before I take way too long typing it and it'll be too late. Just wanted to ask if anyone here also feels the same way?
It wouldn’t make sense if mike Barnes beat Johnny since mike hasn’t trained in over 30 years while Johnny has been back in karate for awhile + has learned miyagi do.
The one thing is that we're only 1/3 of the way through this final season. We could end up getting a lot more information regarding Mr. Miyagi's backstory. Maybe it's a brother of his or maybe it was him before he became balanced. I'm hoping we get more interaction with Johnny and Tory too. It did feel like she made a quick turn, but I think he could help her out a lot with her situation. I would like to see more of Mike Barnes too. Felt like he was utilized and then forgotten right away. I'm really glad they didn't create rift between Miguel and Robby again. Same thing with Tory and Sam. Excited for part 2 to see how they handle the Sekai Taikai. I do wish they stop the friends/not-friends arch between Daniel and Johnny. It's gotten quite old and repetitive.
I can literally already see it cause it’s just about accepting that not everyone is perfect and his past is what made him wanna improve himself and become the man that Daniel came to know since he was ashamed of who he used to be.
@@tammykolu1242hes probably not going to have a redemption because this is something he did early in his life when he came to this country and there has only been one perfect person!
I disagree about Daniel. If you try to see things from his perspective his actions make sense. He has good intentions and the show has shown him to be right about a lot of the things he’s been saying from the beginning. He’s certainly no more flawed than Johnny. Imo, the writers have always written them as equals. Their mistakes are almost always due to misunderstandings or understandable moments of weakness. Surprisingly, I actually see a lot of fans saying that they thought Daniel was more reasonable than Johnny this season. Either way, Daniel has definitely grown from the earlier seasons. I mean, he was willing to let Johnny name the dojo Eagle Fang, and he generously gave Johnny a job. A job that Johnny seems pretty ungrateful for.
This is a show I’ve definitely enjoyed since it came out on You Tube Red, however I’m glad they are ending it at season 6. Some of the dynamics between characters are getting a little old and drawn out. So many lessons learned, except how to communicate apparently. I’m kind of tired of poor poor Tori, and quite frankly the Tori/Sam and Robbie/Miguel thing wore itself out a while ago. It’s all still good fun but they are running out of things to do with these guys Hopefully they prove me wrong in parts 2 and 3, but this is the first season where I wasn’t compelled to sit and binge as soon as it came out.
First of all, it’s really good to see you back. Secondly, you literally hit the bull’s-eye on every single gripe I had about the first five episodes. Everything from Daniel being extremely annoying to the annoying on again off again friendship between Johnny and Daniel and so on. I don’t know if I found myself really bored with this season so far or if the show has just run its course
OBLITERATED had a negative impact upon the COBRA KAI series creators' ability to provide a satisfying last season to their show. SURPRISE PLOT TWISTS will be much needed.
I've been a big fan of the show since 2019, and I especially enjoyed the first 3 seasons and season 5, the only reason I wasnt as big a fan of season 4 was because of The Last Jedi-esque opening where they "subverted" our expectations by having Johnny and Daniel still bicker and waste time, and by having Terry Silver stay out of the limelight until the finale, whereas season 5 delivered on everything I was truly waiting for. That said, while I love these characters so much and I enjoyed watching them thanks to the always amazing performances by the actors, but this seasons truly does feel like they're just recycling old plot beats. Of course I'm waiting for the next 10 episodes before passing final judgment, but Im rooting for the show to end on a high note.
You WERE the original OG. I thought the whole thing ended with season 5 and was blown away to see it was still going and immediately tried to find you, but all I saw were dozens of lesser quality RUclips fan pages ( whatever you call them). It was a bit of a put off. But then I remembered you interviewed Sean Kanan and found you through that search.
I think learning about Miyagi’s flawed past is the only way that Daniel can be humbled. He iustifies everything based on Miyagi and even when Johnny tried to fully embrace Miyagi do, it still isn’t enough for Daniel
Sean said that about barnes in an interview about thr loss to johnny he didnt feel bad about his character at all because johnny is a day in and day out sensei while barna has been working on his business and occasionally gets back into Karate but if he was training everyday again Sean felt like Barnes would crush Johnny.
When you talked about Tory’s story arc and her relationship with Kreese, this exactly tells me why we needed another episode to talk about that or at least one more season instead of forcing things into season 6 by cramping it all together in one - it’s like how the saying goes never put all your eggs in one basket. This show needed a season 7 or season 8 at least to have a season finale.
When Johnny beat Mike, wasn't he using moves he'd picked up from Miyagi Do? I guess that if Mike had kept training, he'd have figured out how to address some of those moves by now, so I'm on the fence about that fight. Glad Mike stays a good guy though.
Main problem with Cobra Kai is the short runtime combined with the absolute plethora of characters at this point. The first few seasons managed this much better because they didn’t focus on every single character. Season 1 was mainly focusing on just Johnny, Daniel, Miguel, and Robby. Then, in Season 2 onwards, they mix a few extra characters into the mix and it’s just gotten too difficult to divide the already small runtime between so many characters. I’m hoping that the next to parts deviate some screen time from less important characters, but I doubt they’re going to do that considering it’s the final season. I wish this show had 50 minute episodes to make up for how many important characters exist within the show now 😭
Hey, Great review!! I agree with most of what you said!! I was bothered with Chosen also I wanted more from his character. I guess time will tell. Mr Miyagi’s story didn’t bother me to much but I do wish we got to see More items from the box and I also wish they had a better story arc for him then the random guy at the gym that knew him . that was week they could of had another episode going into the mystery of his past. I know they are saving more for the 2.ed part but they could have written a stronger story. Torys story was the best in the 5 episodes. Kresse story was weak also so far. I agree there should have been another scene with kreese and Tory possibly in the same episode where they have more info on Mr. Miyagi and also throw in one scene where chosen is saying goodbye and going back to the airport to go to Okinawa that just seemed like a poor job editing. the last time you see him he is looking at his phone? Non of the kids ask about his whereabouts? I’m hoping the part 2 and 3 are kick ass these first 5 episodes were not so great!!! BIG LETDOWN. If you watch the 3ed movie you will notice Daniel has a shitty attitude just like he does now as a grown-up they didn’t show much in the first karate kid or the second karate kid but it’s very evident in the third movie. He’s a true villain in this show.
Man, forget Miyagi, cuz they straight up made Amanda, who has shown to care for Tori considerably since the fourth season and Robby whose her literally boyfriend, not reach out or at least chase after her in between the time she stormed off to when she appears again at the Sekai Tekai. Its just so much of a stupid contrivance that unless the writers blatantly address it in the next part where Tori cuts all contact with everyone and is quite literally not at her apartment anymore and gone off the face of the bloody Earth to Robby and the rest of the gang, then this entire subolot is just dumb and only happened for the sake of plot.
I think they didn’t show any of that to avoid taking away the shock of Tory showing up with Kreese. Which I think was the right call. I fully expect them to have a line in the next episodes where someone says she didn’t answer any calls.
I with you on the Tori thing. Feel like Robby or Amanda woulda stopped her instead of let her go off to Kreese. Hell I feel like Johnny woulda reached out to her.
Tori’s character is cooked after that last episode I get she’s grieving and I understand Kreese is like a father figure but still why would you ever go back to someone like kreese someone she knows just wants to use her
You nailed the rushing plot anD the barnes/johnny fight ... it felt like a soap opera at times with some story lines progressing too fast, rather than the cinematic build up it deserves.
Chozen being a bit goofy and light-hearted is a prelude, I think, to some heavy things that will go down in parts 2 and 3. The thing with Kumiko disappearing could bring back some weight to his character. He will once again return to being a badass. Part 1 is just a set up and with Chozen, I think, he will be prime Chozen in parts 2 and 3. Part 1 had a lot of goofy parts, so the whole season would not be so dark and intense. Now we got a lot of that out of the way, I think the really good and heavy parts are coming.
I'm glad I wasn't the only one pissed about Mike Barnes losing to Lawrence. That was so untrue to the movies, Barnes was clearly supposed to be the tougher of the two.
The writers are leaning WAY to hard into miyagi do. I thought this show was going to be about changing cobra kai for the better. Which I thought was where eagle fang was going to go and now eagle fang is dead. That pissed me off more than Johnny winning (which he should since he has been training and has two style now...Barnes never learned miyagi defense and Johnny has)
@@cheetah219 I always think the characters should be the ones we know and love from the movies. There's no point bringing a cool character back from the movies and they're a completely different character. Mike Barnes should still be Karate's bad boy from Karate Kid 3. Or at least resemble that character as much as possible, which wouldn't include losing to Johnny Lawrence. They could have at least made it a draw.
He would have defintely beaten Johnny when they were kids, but he was written to have abandoned karate and hasn’t been back at it nearly as long as Johnny has. I absolutely hated Johnny beating the 5 guys from Korea last season, but this wasn’t bad writing.
I’m having SUCH a hard time forgiving the writers, for having Johnny say; “After this you and I are done - for good” 🙄 I got so pissed. How many F’ing times are they gonna backtrack on this crap!? It’s just Season 4 all over again now. The Sekai Taikai is one tournament they SHOULD’ve been completely in_SYNC for, going into it like true BRO’s! THAT would’ve been the mature thing to do, and how you’d separate it from the same old tiring route. So yeah, now it just feels like Season 4 again, and I HATE it!!!! (I’m writing this as a life-long hardcore fan)
Mike Barnes' rustiness makes sense, given his prolonged absence from fighting. In his first fight at Silver's house, he gets knocked unconscious, showcasing his lack of practice. In contrast, Johnny Lawrence takes on multiple opponents and holds his own, demonstrating his continued growth as a martial artist.Notably, Johnny has evolved beyond his pure Cobra Kai roots, incorporating Miyagi Do defensive techniques into his arsenal. He has fought Daniel LaRusso to a draw and, although he lost to Silver, this setback likely motivated him to improve further. His fight with Chozen started strong, and while the outcome wasn't shown, it's clear Johnny remains a formidable opponent. In comparison, Mike hasn't trained in over 30 years, making his rustiness comparable to Johnny's in Season 1. Therefore, a loss for Mike is a realistic and logical consequence of his prolonged inactivity.
Yeah i think Myagi was saving the day or taking back something that was stolen from someone. Orrr he really did have a dark past and turned his life around. Maybe him and Johnnys character arcs are similar. Maybe myagi was a bully in his early years. I never looked at myagi and thought he was a saint his entire life. We knew he had a dark side with his drinking and pain.
Honestly Johnny beating Mike makes a lot of sense johny been practicing and living karate Mike just now getting into it again. I feel you underestimating Johnny there’s a reason why kreese valued him so much
I'm not upset over the "twist" about Miyagi at all so far. I bet there's going to be something that clears his name, or something that explains what happened. Cobra Kai has been a show that's constantly been about redemption. Mr. Miyagi can still be a good person who made mistakes in the past ... And maybe that's a lesson that Daniel needs to finally learn, too. I'm excited to see where all of this is going.
Rewatched the show before these episodes. I think this show has done a great job of staying consistent with its quality. These 5 episodes felt a little bit slower than the first 5 seasons. I think its because this is a 15 ep season instead of 10. Still loving it
Part 1 felt super rushed. I would have rather them put part 1-2 out together and fully fleshed out these characters. I have a big issue with Tory going back to Kreese after everything he’s done. It’s like an addict relapsing after going through rehab. Daniel needs a kick in the mouth. Dude is becoming a whiney and I hate it. I think they should’ve kept Barnes in as a Sensei with Johnny and Daniel, to me that would’ve gave his character more purpose. Doesn’t really make sense for him to have this “contest” if he hasn’t been training a whole lot. If the keep to where Myagi does have a past I think it grounds his character and makes him human, not this perfect Sensei Daniel thinks he is. Makes him more relatable and his teachings have more impact. Overall I’d give it a 3 out of 5. Hope part 2 isn’t as rushed.
The kenny crapping his pants stuff had to happen so that he had a reason to start beef with Anthony again. There could have been other ways to do that but I dunno what else could have been as humiliating that they haven't done already.
Excellent video and I totally understand your views and concerns. But I am nowhere near giving up on John, Josh and Hayden yet. I have to believe they started the season this way to finish it up with the biggest bang for the endgame which they had in mind since day 1. Their humor and storylines have always been a bit on the raunchy side. But their endgames have always been phenomenal. I have faith 👍
i see the Miyagi storyline as like showing the viewers that mr. miyagi was deeply flawed and not the perfect goodie two shoes that daniel makes him out to be
Realizing now that it has 3 parts, I thought it was only 2. Yep, I can agree with all that, a little too much rushed (guess they are aiming for the Tiktok gen) and not too much grounded with the Kreese and Master Kim arc. And yeah, too much goofness, but let's see what we're getting in the following part. Didn't mind the change in the Miyagi, as long as they do a decent follow up, they are probably also correcting the age dates that we could get from the gravestone. And yeah, Daniel is still the real bully :D
I can believe Johnny beating Mike because he now knows Miyagi-Do defense. He has two styles to take from. Sure as they referenced Mike Barnes is “built different” but he only just got back into Karate. It’s been a traumatic couple of months for him.
I thought it was fantastic. Loved season 6 part 1. One thing that really confuses me though: How the heck did Kreese manage to get to South Korea, and then Spain after he escaped from prison with the police after him? Surely, he would have been spotted and apprehended at the airport straight away wouldn’t he?
People have escaped before. I don’t have a problem with Korea. Now being a fugitive and being on a world wide TV tournament, probably something real fugitives would avoid.
Idk for sure if the writers are gonna follow through with the whole Miyagi was a thief and fought in the World Tourment story line but, I could see how it possibly makes sense. Miyagi’s wife and child died in an internment camp during WW2. I could see how something like might send Mr. Miyagi over the the edge in a downward spiral for a bit and have him enter the the world tournament. It's the whole thing Johnny said about how he wanted Tory to continue fighting Sam cause she was working through it and how when his mom died all he wanted was to get on the matt for 3 rounds and how it would have helped him.
Its pretty obvious why Mr Mijagy went down on the dark path that he did in 49, this was only 4 and a half years after loosing his wife and child and even 40 years after the fact on the anniversary of their deaths he still gets drunk, a younger Miyagi who was probably suffering from PTSD from the war mixed with his depression would have a very hard time finding balance and his screw up is what will lead to him finding it in the long run
how much time had passed between Daniel breaking up the fight for who becomes the female leader in the sekai taikai, and everyone being in Barcelona ? I feel like its weird we got no story about, anyone wondering where Tori went. Like Robby and Tori are together, was he not wondering "wheres my girlfriend gone ?" Also did any of the characters question where Chozen went ? I know the audience know he went back home to talk to Kumiko, but none of the characters mention him again after that. Also I didn't love how they treated Hawk, I feel like he's easily top 5 fighters. however all that said, I still enjoyed watching all the episodes. These points are just nitpicky
I'm sure the writers will soften the Mr. Miyagi backstory but I'd be happy if they left it in warts and all. I think it's safe to say his past was always likely to have some less than appealing aspects even given what little we know. The fact he was able to find peace and become the character he became makes him even greater for it and Daniel should come away from this feeling better about the fact he played a part in making Mr. Miyagi's later years as balanced and happy as they were. They both ended up needing eachother.
I think you're missing a big piece of the picture with the Mike and Johnny fight. You're thinking about the KK 1 Johnny and the KK3 Barnes fighting. Yes in that instance Mike wins. But now with Johnny training for a few years now, and in Miyagi do, Mike not training atall, AND it was Miyagi do that beat Mike in KK3. Adult Johnny has the edge over adult Mike easily. The fight was written accurately.
Here is my theory, Kim is a Miagi's brother, it does make sense, there were always defensive and offensive styles, there were always good vs evil, i think this might be their genious plan, to create two dojos and let thier students to learn from every style, and the best student would be that, that first gets that he gotta accept both styles equal, finds the balance.
Bro I unsubbed yesterday cos I thought the channel was dead lol. Yours were the vids I was waiting for and didn't see Now you're back on it, it's a resub Looking forward to seeing your upcoming vids
I thought it was pretty good and I got through it pretty quick. I just hated how Kreise can just jump back-and-forth from another country like no problem and then end up in Spain as a fugitive as no problem. Also, the girl leaving and becoming part of his team was just too unrealistic other than that I actually enjoyed it and I always enjoy the show because I feel like as a kid growing up with the karate kid. They haven’t tried to go back and change it. They’ve just kinda built it and I still feel like I’m watching the 80s movie
I don't think it was executed that well but during slow mo portion I think was supposed to show what Johnny learned from Miyagi-Do. Barnes didn't train with Daniel but Johnny did. Idk.
Here my thoughts on Miyagi: the necklace he stole belonged to his wife…who died in a japanese internment camp…while was off winning a medal of honor fighting for this country…maybe she had to give it to a camp gaurd to bribe for extra food or something. Understandable why he would feel entitled to steal it back, and also why he would have enough anger inside of him to beat a guy to death. That drunk scene in KK part 1 is gonna be key to all this.
Like you said, Barnes hasn't really been training like Johnny. Also, Johnny now knows Cobra Kai and Myagi-Do, so it's reasonable that he would be Barnes
Miyagi a villain?"
when they were actually giving us answers to why Mr.
Very well said
Yeah, how is it a change? Or a big deal? He f-ed up when he was in his early 20s. And? xD I don't understand the drama
I agree 100%.
retcon what? luke was going to strike vader down if palpatine didn't open his big mouth

Chosen doesn’t lose to Mike. And Johnny is much better than most people realize now that he has Myagi Do mixed in to his arsenal.

Yeah people don't understand Okinawa wasn't always exactly in good relations with Japan.
It’s more like Star Wars than the Acolyte
it is.
Wow true…. In addition the writers know and care about, the original writers, the fandom the characters and universe…. These writers respect it all… they dont go around saying “it’s my story!” Like the acolyte writer.
Very true, haha
That's not a good thing 😂
I've been saying the same thing ever since Robbie had his Revenge of the Sith season. 😂
So glad this channels coming back! Please release more
The fact that Barnes was able to keep up with Johnny and actually fight really well against him considering he hasn’t trained since 85 is kinda crazy, shows just how badass he is.

The Miyagi box is definitely a way to tie in the Next Karate Kid. When Miyagi is at Julie’s father’s funeral, they introduce him as Keisuke Miyagi, the same name in the article in the box. Maybe Miyagi used his brothers name or was an alias when he was training Julie’s father.
What's up with that boxing gym tho

What did you think of Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 1?
I thought it was good for the most I didn't understand why Tory never tried to talk to Robby after her mother died and I think if Daniel would've let the fight with Tory and Sam go on Tory would've stayed in myiagi do he's starting get really annoying.
Probably the most disappointing season yet😭
I thought it was great!
@blakeshelby4845 you're probably right. I think Sam or Tory would have ended up getting hurt
Eh it’s alright.
I totally agree, I would have rather seen Daniel and Johnny remain bros too. It kinda felt forced to make them against each other again.
This is a very fair review. I'm looking forward to the next two parts.

The video i have been waiting for
SAMEEE
Yes 😂
I can easily see Miyagi being an Uncle Iroh type with there being a reason that he's so calm and mellow now
The thing about Daniel is so fast to pass judgement on anybody no matter who or what the circumstances are and once he does he don't care what they do or did
They ruined Johnnys legacy more than anything.
Mike Barnes: “people have died!” “I will don’t you what the Sakai Tekai will do to you”…. “Now, capture flags!! Twice!”
Idk if that’s the arena or just a training area where they all meet
You also have to remember that the best of the best are excepted into the Tekai so it being small doesn't exactly mean bad
I don’t think that’s the main area ngo
It shoulda been 8
The thing about Tori going to Kreese, is that she was always really close with him, and just felt betrayed when he left even though it really wasn’t his fault.
Who is watching her younger brother 😂
more realistic is that he has a second family i think
All I have to say is my boy Robbie better win the Sekkai Tekkai
Dude, Miyagi stole a black belt on the very first movie. I don't get why a lot of people are so shocked about it 😂
He even made Daniel drive without a license.
Why is everyone hating on Daniel?? I need to rewatch part 1 but I see nothing wrong with him this season. He just needs to work better with Johnny.
Daniel's just caught up because of the Miyagi stuff.
It'd be like Leslye Headland finding out about Harvey Weinstein.... if she didn't know that side of him and wasn't in on it 😂
Daniel literally played the “I am your boss. You do what I say” card. Nobody likes that, especially when he dictates the training time and instructors
Because theory has a point. Daniel always makes it about himself and lashes out. He doesn’t respect Johnny.
@@26exaltedsov And does Johnny respect Daniel? Johnny tried to take Daniel employees. In this very season. He wanted to take Miguel and Robby to do extra training in his own dojo in the very first episode of season 6.
Season 6 was absolutely amazing can't wait for part 2!!!!!!
Mike Barnes hasn’t been training for over 20 years but Johnny has been training for awhile now.

I genuinely am awaiting the twist that clears Miyagi's name.
Miyagi is not a perfect angel lol
I can literally already see it cause it’s just about accepting that not everyone is perfect and his past is what made him wanna improve himself and become the man that Daniel came to know since he was ashamed of who he used to be.
I hope that’s not the case that would just ruin the whole premise and Daniel and Johnny split for nothing
@@tammykolu1242how do you know that?
OBLITERATED had a negative impact upon

After her interaction with Kreese before her mother died, I just knew she was going to crawl back to his side.
Wdym? She storms off and heads to Kreese right away. There’s no time to talk to Amanda.
Tori’s character is cooked after that last episode I get she’s grieving and I understand Kreese is like a father figure but still why would you ever go back to someone like kreese someone she knows just wants to use her
Johnny and Daniel have the "I'm done with you, this friendship is over" Fight about once every season. It's getting so repetitive.
Also, how is Keeese flying so willy nilly from America to Asia lol isn't he a wanted man?
They are bringing the old cobra Kai u can see pictures of Miguel with the captain band with the old cobra kai gi
Good review. I think things will clear up in part 2 and then part 3 is going to be an epic send off.
Johnny is like the guy who made so much Progress character-wise. Hes just that awesome and well written
Wait what Star Wars theory has a cobra Kai channel I never knew about this
7:25 I think the Kenny pooping accident is a callback to Season 5 where Kenny gave Anthony a dirty swirly.
So glad you uploaded I watched like 10 of
Your old videos
I can believe Johnny beating Mike because he now knows Miyagi-Do defense. He has two styles to take from. Sure as they referenced Mike Barnes is “built different” but he only just got back into Karate. It’s been a traumatic couple of months for him.
I thought it was fantastic. Loved season 6 part 1.
One thing that really confuses me though:
How the heck did Kreese manage to get to South Korea, and then Spain after he escaped from prison with the police after him?
Loved the new season so far!
Like Robby and Tori are together, was he not wondering "wheres my girlfriend gone ?"
Also did any of the characters question where Chozen went ?
Yours were the vids I was waiting for and didn't see
Now you're back on it, it's a resub
Looking forward to seeing your upcoming vids
Tori is the Knuckles of Cobra Kai. She just keeps getting tricked from one side to the other haha
Love to see you back!
I was just wondering when this video would come out. Glad to see it’s here!
Right….like wouldn’t he be caught at the airport? 😂😂😂 unless he has the money for a private jet I guess
Star wars, karate kid, and Rocky. 3 favorite franchises. And they all have connections
You’re missing one
@@iRyanMal which is?
Like you said, Barnes hasn't really been training like Johnny. Also, Johnny now knows Cobra Kai and Myagi-Do, so it's reasonable that he would be Barnes
Nice! I have been waiting for your review on Cobra Kai!
I’m digging the season as always. Hopefully Dutch comes back for a cameo
