Although I was a little too young in the early years of Star Trek, I don't remember any "I ROCK SPOCK" slogans. The slogan I remember, and was everywhere at the time (and in the years later that I remember) was "I GROK SPOCK," using the word "grok," from Robert Heinlein's 1961 novel, Stranger in a Strange Land meaning to intuitively understand. I'm not kidding. That slogan was literally everywhere in the late 60s and early 70s.

Sometimes things one doesn't like when they're separate become something one does like when combined. It certainly led to one of the most iconic starship designs in all of sci-fi history.

Some years ago, I was drove past Paramount Pictures. I noticed they were taking down the "Enterprise" wall poster. I called the "Star Trek" production offices and asked if the show was cancelled. Production had no idea the studio took down the poster, and the person who answered my call said he was sending someone out to check it out. A few weeks later, the final episode of "Enterprise" appeared on TV. I suppose I was the one to let production know their show was over. It's too bad the studio didn't tell them before taking down the poster.

Great fun. I’ve been very fond of telling the “Green Orion Slave Girl ISN’T GREEN” story for years, but somehow I had missed the detail that Majel Barret was the actress in the first test.
I recall seeing the uncut The Cage at a one of the very early Star Trek conventions in NYC, about 1975. That was about a decade after it’s filming, and the Womens Liberation Movement was in full swing, and even then, Number One was a challenging character. I can imagine how the NBC execs - who are still to some degree an Old Boys club - would have utterly LOATHED her character, not to mention look sidewise at her as Gene’s Mistress.

Not to say it is entirely wrong. But I doubt Roddenberry would be too happy w that comparison. Hubbard too would probably chafe at it.

Very good writing/editing and quite a slick production overall. You are getting so good at making these! How long does a video like this take you from idea to upload? Are you a in Premiere pipeline? Mac or PC? Again, great job, these kick ass!

Thank you very much! This type of video is much harder for me to make, the amount of research I had to do was insane, so this one and part 2 which comes out Thursday (I wrote both at the same time) took 3-4 weeks. My process is a bit different then most peoples for my standard videos. Each of those takes about 3-4 days of research, writing and editing to complete. BUT Im always working on at least 3 videos at a time, all in different stages of development and I try to maintain a months worth of episodes complete and scheduled for release. And if Something relevant happens or if I love some video Ill change the scheduled episode to the new one. But generally im a month ahead of what you see! Oh and I use a PC! Hope this answered some of your questions and thank you for the support! It means a lot!

Now this is a real original content on Trek! Don't forget the upcoming contribution of another Sci Fi genius as Isaac Asimov. I belive there is a good tale on that.

Very enjoyable video. Thank you. There were 3 stories Mr. Roddenberry first pitched to the network. Of those three, the network chose to bankroll 'The Cage' for Star Trek's pilot episode. Do you know the titles of the 2 unused pilot stories? Keep up the fine work. RNB

I remember seeing Star Trek during its initial airing but I wasn't interested because I was too young. After a few years though, I fell in love with the series (after it was put into syndication) and I couldn't get enough of it. Credit to my older brother who loved it too.
I once read in an article about Strek Trek that the reason that Lucille Ball OK'd Star Trek was because she thought that it was a show about the life of Hollywood stars. Any truth to that?
