What’s the point of having all this performance if it’s never utilized? Every chip is so powerful blah blah blah, but nothing is ever correctly utilized. There’s not an app that is used from the App Store that takes advantage of all the “ Performance” 🙄
I have an iPhone. I always buy the Promax model. My Pixel Pro is way faster than my iPhone. It's not a mission. My 24 ultra feels faster, also I don’t feel that benchmarks mean anything in a real world scenario
I don’t care how much more powerful it is, it just needs to be cooler and more efficient. I’d rather have a more stable chip than a more powerful one but overheats and destroys battery life

exactly, I hear this every year of how "the new A17, A18x, future A19x is KILLING androids (under the right conditions and temps) and all I see is a faster chip that slows down and kills the battery due to poor thermals

True, but keep in mind, if you use the same programs, you don't need more performance for that, so if your current program need 500 geekbench score performance to run, that is about 20% CPU performance on old chip and 15% CPU performance on the new (single core performance), that 5% lower CPU usage is also means lower power consumption, and lower heat generation for the same thing.

With light usage, I can get 2 days from my 15 pro max…but more would definitely be better.

Umm you serious? Go back and see our estimates they are very close. The camera being twice the size is for the iPhone 15 and the sensor is way larger than before, just slightly smaller than the Pro one now.

Quick video edits for one. My 15 Pro Max utterly DESTROYS all of my Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 phones with just a simple trim of a UHD60 HDR video clip.
Aside from that, both are snappy AF with everyday tasks.

So that is not called to innovation, when you are able to release a product in 2020, what NOBODY can copy even in 2024 (so no real products in the shops with this chip yet, but the M3 products are already in the shops for 5 months..)
By the way for me also thst is the innovation, what the industry follow with zero questions.. like throwing away your own 120Hz after 5 years, and using the LTPO 120Hz, because it's way better like your early access half ready idea... same for the 24MP default images, that side what already has 200MP camera still stuck with the 12MP images, but again the "new" guy when leaved the 12MP lens, they already found a way to use it better like the competitors.. the innovation is not that when you just brainlessly put the bettet hardware inside the phone, you need to modify the softwate to use it (so nit loosing 2 hours of battery with 120Hz, but gaining that 2 hours extra battery time.. or the bettet quality images, if you use bettet camera lens etc..)

You still cannot charge your Watch on the go with your phone, or have multi window or have a T9 dialing to call someone quickly or have a big screen... in a phone that you can fold in 2 or.. My 15 Pro does 3000 single core and 7600 multi. But does it even matter if apple gatekeeps cool future features for newer phones? So much for futureproofing with processing headroom.
Apple does this without a heat dissipation factor on 15 Pro. Now that Apple is considering a graphene sheet on 16 pro it will catch up to android. Then they can pump out way more performance.
My iPhone 15 Pro, I clocked it draining at 22.35 watts with the perfect setup - 17 watts for phone chip and screen, 1 watt for flashlight, and 4.5 watts external output.
But in real gaming it drains at 4-7 watts while playing heavy game with MetalFX at max everything graphics. Looked so much better than 14 Pro, but at the cost of power consumption.

My nothing phone 2 is definitely more smooth due to 120hz than iPhone's 60hz. I had iPhone 14 in my hands for some time and I just couldn't use it with the 60hz, laggy af. Even my friends with iPhones and 60hz say that my phone is much smoother. Well, even the phone 2a which costs 350 dollars is more smooth than iPhone 15. You're just blind or you don't want to admit it.

A 40% GPU performance gain would be impressive for A18 Pro but even more impressive if that’s the base A18
The thing is as powerful as it is unless they solve the thermal issue I’ll never take advantage if it since the phone gets so hot and the screen dims while playing games in 120hz with promotion enabled I’m forced to always playing powersave mode so the phone doesn’t heat up or the screen dim and it disables promotion so I’m stuck in 60hz

At the end of the day you gotta understand, that it is a phone and not a computer. Just stuffing more power into a phone when it cannot even perform like an actual computer is a total waste of resources and the potential of the chip.

hope they'll also consider the over heating issue, we know how efficient and fast is the bionic chip but Apple should consider thermal management also this time.

I'm sure there will be a huge push for AI on this chip with extra cores specifically for it.
Not only that but qualcom and even mediatech are probably still ahead of apple just in terms of number and quality of AI cores. I bet the gap closes quite a bit though and the AI software part of iOS 18 will be interesting to say the least!

My phone's Geekbench 6 score is 200 in single-core and 700 in multi-core. But guess what? Even with PUBG set to smooth plus low graphics, it still lags like it's got a hangover. Dreaming big, though. iPhone 16, with its A18 chip, here I come! Gotta aim for the stars...

@PanWyder old?? There are people using iPhone7 or Samsung S7 out there, 2021 is peak smartphone Era, iPhone 13PM is better than 14PM, 15PM except notch. Remember that there are overheating issues, battery drain, bugs for iPhone 14pros, durability concerns for 15pm but absolutely no issues for 13PM

Benchmarks dont say anything. Try to do your phone some other intensive tasks, like rolling 1000 dice in 3d. Also, i would care some efficiency improvements as i dont like the 15pm overheating.

I know you’re doing this for the clicks but it still kinda bothers me. We’re way past the point where things will feel faster on either phone almost ever. You know that, I know that and any moderately techy person with half an eye for objectivity knows that. You’re talking a few scenarios where the difference matters and sure, for those maybe it's worth saving a couple minutes off a 'video render or something but come on, kills? Destroys?
That’s the point, phones are becoming mini personal computers. We want crazy gaming and rendering performance, as well as on-device LLMs.

I’d love to ditch my PC at some point but we’re not headed that way, in fact we’re probably going the opposite way. You seen any decent word processors for mobile lately? Why aren’t all the college kids writing their papers with google docs on an iPhone? What about the latest tripple a games? No body should worry about cpu scoores any more. Most recent cpus are more than enough for mobile applications. People care about battery endurance and charging speed.

I am considering keeping my pro 13 for another year, as I dont see a single benefit from a new iphone. Longer Battery? Nope. Lighter? a tiny bit. Better Screen? A tiny bit... Not enough. I can text and doomscroll insta with the 13 pro good enough.
Yup, beyond that phone I don't think 90% of people need more than that, bright enough screen with it being oled and with a high enough refresh rate (a phone doesn't need a 144 or 240hz screen right now), decent storage (and iCloud exists), fast enough chips for a good amount of games at 60 and even near 120fps and for most people using the apps like facetime and instagram it is more than fast enough for the next couple of years, solid cameras (most people can barely tell the image quality in a casual situation beyond even an iPhone 12 it just need to look sharp or wide enough) and finally very good battery life with decent fast charging (Lightning is a big letdown though).

Unless AI starts requiring special hardware in our devices/laptops, I don't see how a more powerful CPU is better experience. All flagship phones now have a very good camera, ability to play games, stream HD content, etc. What more can we use our powerful phones for?

How about better software, better battery, more customization to the screen, A Siri that works. Siri got worse this last update and is practically worthless.

The chip were powerfull enough years ago becaues belive it or not, we are not editing 4k videos on our phones... What we DO need is a better battery life and more features such as amazing anti glare that samsung impplemented and super zoom cameras. Also ffs put 120hz displays and faster usb-c on non pro models
Will I be able to sideload apps? is the battery replaceable without tools? if not, then I'll pass for the 4th year in a row.
Unless other regions add sideloading than the EU (implementation is not really developer friendly) and Apple magically feels like adding a replaceable battery with possibly some kind of removable cover (even though they never have done it before) then all we can do is accept what they are going to give us because that will probably not change, unless maybe where you are they implement the kinds of rules like the EU has done previously.
@@4070super Yes I'm assuming this as well, after 30yrs, Apple has lost me as a long standing customer, they provide features and things I don't want, more and more each year, and not the things I do want, so I have moved on, after owning nearly every major model of the iPhone up to the 12 Pro, I wont be buying again until they allow us to do what we want, and allow us to easily swap out the battery.

We'll believe it when we see it... Right now all we can do is hope that this speculation is true.

I have to do a lot of things on the fly updating documents, etc. and it would make life easy, not switching through apps. yes I’m well aware it’s a small thing lol but at this point, the iPhone has matured features are getting much smaller and quality of life would be helpful. I don’t always have my Mac on me.

I'm not sure who is even using the full performance of the A14 much less the A17 Pro enough to need a more powerful chip. It's a phone and the limiting factor is iOS and the mobile gaming industry being complete garbage with scam games designed to be addictive and suck the money from people. There isn't anything I do on the phone that would benefit at all from a new chip honestly.
