If the giants really are looking forward to moving on next year what good did it do by letting the rest of the nfl know we are done with Eli? imo it took a possible 2-4th pick for Eli to 5-7th pick or worst for Eli by benching him now letting him finish the season then calling the jags might have been a better decision

First Things First: Cris Carter and Nick Wright I usually give Mr. Wright so much luv but I have to tip my hat to Mr. Carter. I understand where he is coming from. Eli for whatever you want to say he DID win those 2 Superbowls against basically the best recent NFL franchise New England Patriots led by Belichek and Brady. He has the 3rd longest starting streak in NFL history. Sometimes a person's legacy should be more than the game. This game we play this football was created for entertainment and a way to generate money. Something for the fans to cheer for. To have a hero to have a stake in the town you live or appreciate a team for their dominance or hope for a teams triumph. What has happened to the gladiators the warriors of the game. The quarterback that played both ways. The running backs that only needed 3 inches of daylight. What happened to the Linebackers that snarled and spit rolling over offensive linemen with blood forearms. Or Defensive backs that used to be the terror over the middle. Give me an injured Emmitt Smith trying to win a Superbowl. Give me a taped up Lawrence Taylor still dominating the game. Give me a 6th round pick that makes history as the GOAT. Give me a sleepy eyed, quiet, Patriot perfect season ending Ironman in Eli Manning over whatever the future of the Giants might be because without Eli Manning the Giants wouldn't have a present to even be able to focus on a future.

1st of all, Eli has been the definition of "Extra Average". and thats fine, but let's not pretend we're talking about Aaron Rogers.
2nd, Geno Smith is a fine QB. His career QBR is higher than Eli's. And the Jet's were/ are a "Dumpster Fire".
3rd, Davis Webb hasn't beat Smith out for the #2 spot. Geno out played Eli in the preseason.
4th, This move signals that the Giants are evaluating ALL the talent. Which should motivate ALL the players to step up. What if the Giants start winning games with Geno and the newly motivated team?

He's been terrible for years. Now he's 2-9 this year and looks just as bad as when he came in. No he doesn't deserve to finish the season. He deserves to be cut. He should be grateful they let him stay on the team. Other players dont get that opportunity. Ask McFadden.

Been a Giants fan for 30 years. Don't have a problem benching him at 2-9, for a future stud franchise QB, but I do have a problem with benching him for Geno Smith. Geno Smith does not have a future with this team either, so.....what's the point? To embarrass Manning? Move on from him WHEN you have somebody to hand the reins to, not before.

The only thing I can think of, and this is sheer speculation on my part, is that they want Webb to get more practice time with the first team offense before throwing him out there. And until Webb's ready, it doesn't really matter if Smith gets pounded.

@First Things First with Cris Carter and Nick Wright:
First things first, I wanna address a shoutout to you all in the US from Germany. I really enjoy watching ftf and undisputed on a regular basis and the content is high class. Both Shanon Sharpe and CC bring a whole other point of view to the table. But also Nick with his theories that he adds are an enjoyable side facts that a lot of people wouldnt have thought about overall. Now, here is what I think about the "benching-Eli-thing":
I think, its the right move. As a huge NFL from Germany, I can tell you that making the point clear already (week 13) as a Giants Organization avoids the opportunity for Eli to make the comeback at a later point of time (what I mean is the next season). If they somehow would think that they would stay with him next year, the organization would just make joke out of itself.
By doing this, Ben McAdoo obviously wants to save his job by putting a new "project" (Franchise QB) at the first line after hearing a lot of whispers about whether or whether not he will keep his job.
Lets be honest. The Giants Roster should not be playing a 2-9 season at all. This is just an embarresment. And if you look into the future, things with Eli would have become even worse. I will explain it a little bit later.
What I can tell you - and I am really sure about it - is that the Giants just want to avoid that Davis Webb will have a disaster like the Bills had with Peterman a couple of weeks back. A match like that can just burn a players carrier. Especially the QB who has the most difficult role in American Sports as a whole. He can mentally suffer a lot. So you (as a team) just need to settle down and let him adapt to the increasing tempo to the game by giving him reps.
Surely, they could have given Webb the reps while Eli was still playing. But the fact that Geno plays just underlines that Eli is out. There is no turning back, and I think it is right.
Lets see what Davis Webb can do the next weeks. Geno is not the answer nor will he ever be the answer. And that is not the problem - at least how many NFL covering medias a describing it. If he wont play good, they will get a good draft pick anyway so that there is the chance to go big in the first round. Either way they get to choose a new style to start a new era/ generation as a Giants Organization.
Finally, I believe that it would be good for Eli to swap teams for ones in his carrier. All I said about Eli before was obviously no offense against Eli per sé, but after time, it is normal that both the player and the franchise change. It doesnt mean that they get bad during the process. You could just need a difference to squeeze out even more out of you.
Peyton also did it. And look how he ended his career.
My honest opinion: Eli should go to the Broncos and the Broncos should definately strengten their O-Line during the Offseason (Free Agency and Draft). I think, by doing that, they could straight up switch from a nowherelands-team to a Super Bowl caliber side.
The Giants need to restructure their whole organization after a decade with Eli as their franchise QB. And its allright. They just needed to start at one point. And if you carry this whole thing out until the offseason, distractions will remain in New York during that time so that you cannot concentrate on rebuilding your side.
Every era has to end at a certain point of time.
And being this bad with Eli this season, the coach trying to survive by adding new elements to the squad, it could be a beginning of something growing.
Big shoutout to you all. My best wishes. Stay safe and enjoy the rest of the season! :)

And stated over 200 times never missing a game, health is the name of the game. Then his team falls apart and the linemen can’t defend him so he gets pressure every play. His receivers can’t catch and most of them get injured...
And you mean to tell me he needs to play better? Why are giant fans so fickle...

Josh Norris You’re speaking dimes kiddo. Eli could definitely get a third chip w JAX. Maybe even with DEN. Some team will pick him up rather quickly. AZ, BUF, NYJ, MIA, just to name a few are teams in need of a QB. But JAX or DEN is were Eli needs to go if he ever wants a third chip because is not gonna happen anywhere else.
P.S. He could make some noise w the Jets. That squad play with h a lot of heart and are in the playoff hunt. Add more talent specially in their OLine, w Eli on the helm, that would be an interesting scenario. Jets w Eli would be a dark horse 🐎 next season.

They offered him the opportunity to start so his consecutive games streak wouldn't get interrupted and then allow the other two guys to get some time too and he rejected that offer so they have to do what they have to do for the sake of the team and the draft next year. That being said it does look very low class move to treat the guy who has won 2 SBs for you and a ton of games but it is what it is.Besides Eli will be starting for the Jags next year with Tom Coughlin running the show down there.

first of all i a am giants fan. Wasn't Eli really good just last year when he had a good defense and his wr were actually healthy? let's come to the playoff game against packers did Eli not throw perfectly catch able balls to his wr who simply dropped the ball over and over? forget that too let's come to this season, was odell hurt in preseason? whatever happened to bradon marshall? forget that too did he not give his team the lead with minutes to go 3 times this season and his defense let the other team score? no don't worry forget that too does he have a NFL caliber offensive line that can not only protect him but give him the time to throw and give his wr the time to get open? forget that too does he have even half decent running game?
very easy to blame him and he will take the blame but let's be real here the giants as a team are bad this year and i won't be blaming all that on Eli. The gm and coach have to go and Eli is only making about 16 million(yes only compared to what some of the other starters are making? why not build his offensive line, get a decent running game going, he will have healthy wr and the defense giants just spend over 200 million in making should bounce back to play half decent
why not make a run one more year what's the hurry?
    jaguars
    cardinals
    broncos
    possibly redskins if cousins leave
brees's shoulder looks finished so could be saints
he will have multiple teams to choose from and go to contenders
if you are a fellow giants fan look at the whole picture instead of blaming one player who gave us the lead on 3 different occasions towards the end of the game to only see his defense give up big plays to let the other team score

    • @ODGUZO

Man i so much agree with all you said. I wouldnt call myself a hardcore Patriots fan but i follow them since the 2000's i saw the Giats take the Sb's from us and yet i dont hold grudges against them. Iv'e seen the Giants take a turn against themselves and to balem Eli for everything bad that has happend to the team is so unfair, the guy has talent and they are failing to give that talent and effort what it has earned. They are not respecting all he has done for the team. Remmember he took far less time to reach 2 SB mark than Peyton. And to treat him like this is so saddening. Teams that i used to fear playing against the Patriots play are Ravens, Steelers and Broncos. Because they usually play unrefined and to try on hurting Patriot's players. But the team i respect when they play against the Patriots (not now but they used to play like this) are probably just the Giants. They used to be the one team that looked refined and with class, playing tactical, like a brand new machine that runs smoothly affter being oiled up. They played just like the Patriots usually play: "clean and accurate" and for that i respected them. Yet affter losing that (maybe when "the" coach left) sync... well they became what they are now and that's not Eli's fault. I wish they could come back to be the great Giants i learned to respect over the years.

    • @dilwalecricket
      @dilwalecricket 6 лет назад

a team like jaguars with that defense and running game and a line that can give him time with young wide receivers. So on one hand we are told football is the ultimate team game yet on the other when giants lose it's on Eli. That packers games in playoffs last year Eli gave giants the chance to build a huge 1st half lead yet his WR were still in party mode
like i said there are atleast 3-6 teams that will go after Eli and teams like jaguars, broncos and cardinals are only a qb away

there were a couple of years he was great. Other than that he is been good to very good. I agree but don't you think there are teams out there who are a good qb away from contending
Giants made the playoffs last year with a top 3 defense. How come that defense went from top 3 to one of the worst, their offensive line play has been below average, running game is below average, all his wr are hurt yet he gave his team 3 games which were their's to win but his defense allowed other teams to get into field goal range and win
how different would this team be if that eagles game go their way. Sports is about momentum and this year giants lose close games

    • @bradenturner3829

I'm a Tom Brady fan, but I respect Eli, because as a true Dolphins fan, he kept the Pats from taking the only thing the Dolphins have to love about the team, the undefeated season in 1972. Although that second SB was pure luck 9-7, wild card, and somehow move through the playoffs, they were lucky to win the first game, much less the whole thing, and when it mattered, Eli stepped up, and he and the defense took it to the Super Bowl, nobody even thought that they would win the first game.

  • @regnash9441
    @regnash9441 6 лет назад +3

Wow, a classless act? Really? They are a professional football team. If they decide they are going nowhere with Eli, they should move on, and Eli should understand that. They should not waste time and resources by starting Eli just to appreciate what he did in past. IMO, the best move for them would be try their backups (specially the third round pick) and see what can do. These last few games could be valuable to evaluate Webb. At the end of the season, if they think Webb might not be good enough for their franchise QB, they can draft a good QB in coming draft. Anyway this season is over, right?

Eli Manning is #7 all time in passing yards. He is also #7 all time in passing touchdowns. Eli is 1 of 4 quarterbacks with 2 or more super bowl mvp's. Eli also has the 2nd longest streak of consecutive starts in NFL history. In his past 3 seasons before this one Eli Manning has reached 4000 passing yards. Has Eli been the most talented quarterback we've ever seen, no. But he is a very good quarterback who proved he can play in this league. In a year with horrible pass protection, little to no run game, and all of his starting receivers missing time, and the defense playing poorly the Giants organization thinks Eli can't play anymore? It's dumb in my opinion especially with bad pass protection and little to no run game last year and a good defense, Eli won 11 games. In that playoff game Eli played well and Odell dropped a touchdown pass and 2 1st down passes on 3rd down that would've extended drives to get points on the board.

You give him a pay cut, you fire your coach, you go pick an offensive coorinator kinda like mckvay with the rams as your coach. And see what the difference is! Eli makes mistake cuz they let him go bombs away with the ball! Look at farve, carson palmer for example they have high interception cuz they throw down field to much. This is how manning has played his entire career. You put manning a system like offense you will see him benefit!

I get that that the Giants could have handled the situation better, but they offered Eli the start but let him know that he would be benched in the second half for Smith and Webb, he said no I want my start to mean something, not just to continue the streak so what should they do? If he refuses the start because he would be subbed out the game they have no option but to not start Eli

    Dear Chris Carter,
Considering how there are 53 guys on the roster, do you think it is prudent to *let* one guy continue to play despite poor performance (#1 in interceptions over past 5 seasons)?
IE, how many other players should the Giants *let* play? There is an "I" in mutiny. Believe me.

It would’ve been one thing if he was benched to play a guy who was a genuine option to be the replacement long term ro make the giving them snaps make sense. Would’ve also been different if they’d stick with it long term and tossed in Webb who was a blank slate. Instead they went with Geno who they knew wouldn’t be long term and then immediately pivoted back to Eli after firing the coach who made this move for no reason other than a last ditch gasp at sparking something to save his job. Just a shame to end something like that that had no positive potential or gain for the team to make it disappointing but at least with some form of rationale to make it acceptable. But ending it to throw in a guy you’ve seen already and isn’t a genuine prospect to succeed him and then not even see it through just made it such a waste

All NFL teams are going to get younger quarterbacks. Tom Brady, Rogers, Breeze, Rivers, romo, all these guys times are almost up. That expression on Nick´s face failing to convince CC on his point at min 7:51 was so funny (bad edditing tho). I belive both are right on letting Eli be the starter for the rest of the season. However a better way to put some preassure on him to excel at his job would be to on the second half of the games start the back up QB. That could be more fair of a chance (yet a small window) to prove what he is capable of with out taking the "right" Eli earned from years past of hard work to finish this season as a Starting QB for the franchise. I felt really bad for Eli even as a Patriots fan, it was like watching a kid taking all the blame of stuff he didnt entirely break.

Giants fans will absolutely hate this suggestion but if they were smart they would get Josh McDaniels. A lot of people will point out his time with the Broncos which was mediocre. But he did have some success early. From an eye test if John Elway had not gotten in the way I think the Broncos under McDaniels was a few moves away from being a consistent 10 win a year team. If you were to bring him in and allow him to run the ship his way with no interference I think McDaniels is the 1 Patriot besides Belichick from a coaching perspective that can find real success as a head coach.

An E Bottles was 2nd in the NFL in TD passed a few years ago.
in 15 Fitz threw 31tds with the same Jets team. Geno couldn't beat out Fitz. Fitz is actually playing well again this year.
Mccown 67% completion , 17tds, and leading a Jets team to 4 wins when most expected the would get the 1st pick.
Those guys have all at some point played well or are currently playing well .Geno has never played well or ever shown the signs of being an NFL QB.

The best players should play. Geno Smith is better than Eli Manning at this point in their careers! Geno never got to play with WRs or a defense with the NYJ and when they got WRs and Defense, they wouldn't let Geno play again! Even when Ryan Fitzpatrick choked and missed the playoffs with an easy schedule and the next year he threw 6 picks against KC and the NFL still wouldn't let Geno play!
The favorite QB is the backup except when the starter is white and the backup is a black guy who the media made into a bafoon! They did it to Aaron Brooks. They did it to EJ Manuel. They did it to Geno Smith! The perception and the reality are totally different!

TachankaTraps eli was far from mediocre last year,he had his usual numbers and was let down by his wrs in the playoffs.. The giants have only been top 10 in defense once in the last 5 years. The other 4 they were either mediocre or a lil above average at best. The best wrs? The giants had a washed and injured Victor cruz up untill 2014 when odell came along. It has only been odell up untill last year when they drafted sheperd and now this year with marshall and engram. The giants couldve easily been 3-1 up until the chargers game with the injuries. The defense is mediocre this year and the offense is a mess. No line no running game no wrs a horrible coach and horrible play calling. Eli is far from the problem. No one said eli was doing it by him self but when eli is the only consistent component to this team its just sad. When eli is the only one to show up in big games while his wrs and defense cant contribute, that is when people say he does it by him self.
