I could see this being used as a ceremonial "first nail" like how executives use a golden shovel for the first scoop of dirt or cut an opening day ribbon with big scissors. Edit: yes, also like the last railroad spike, as every other reply seems to point out. Never again will I leave out a possible example from a comment lol. I've watched hell on wheels so I know about the last golden spike, guys.
As a certified machinist, seeing your part move in your fixture the instant you started cutting hurts me deep within my soul. Fantastic recovery by the way.
I love this idea it very creative and unique, just suggesting a tiny hook on the inside of the nail head to attach the chain so that it will come out nicely would make it perfect.
Might cause the chain to twist as you unscrewed it - and as you twist chain, it goes rigid and expands. Would be good if it worked, but would worry it would jam inside the nail and then get ripped apart as you carried on unscrewing the head.
Not trying to be a dick but a hook would look tacky. If anything adding a nice thin velvet liner for inside the nail to reduce noise and protect the chain would be dope. Or instead of the diamond anti-slip tread on the head, he should have made it resemble a tiny eggo waffle. Other than that, I think it is perfect how he made it.
Very beautiful and masterfully made! Add a hoop or clasp to the underside of the head of the nail to pull the necklace/ bracelet from the body of the nail would have been icing on the cake. Well done!
Ironicaly, that was his first attempt to engrave anything using this method. So it could possibly go wrong... But the tube itself is too thin to give second try. It even slightly bended in first try
Absolutely amazing! Just like any backstory that can combine a gold chain, a brass nail and "Suck it up" into the same project. That's gotta be some backstory 😂
It's a pun. A funny part seems to be lost in translation. "Suck it up" means 'accept a hardship' but "ЗАБЕЙ" rather meens 'ignore, forget that' But! 'Забей гвоздь' literally means 'hammer a nail'. This title on the plank is like a reminder "Don't worry, be happy".

absolutely a-mazing work! Instantly subscribed. Great video as well. I have one comment about material choice, although I realize this may have been a request from the customer him/herself. The beech looks a bit cheap and plain next to all the wenge, gold, craftsmanship and the obvious blood, sweat and tears spent in obtaining it. Besides that I am now officially jelly AF and pining after ways of obtaining one of these amazing little lathes in the future.
Now that I also make videos where I work the iron I understand how time-consuming it is to make videos of this kind, not to mention material and editing, doubly good for these videos🔥🔥🔥
This. This is the perfect example of a fantastic YooBoob video! Camera angles, lighting, music, time-lapses; an absolute pleasure to watch... Then comes the subject itself. Such an inspired composition; the care, the detail and the craftsmanship along with the beautiful materials all combine to produce a stunning piece of art. Mind. Blown. :notworthy:
For those that are confused about the "suck it up", it is actually a play on words as zabei means suck it up or fuck it, but it also means "hammer it in" like a nail. Amazing video though, love your work!
so beautiful would be the perfect gift to my father , a carpenter who has survived cancer, liver transplant and who raised us three kids even though he isn't our biological father, we consider him our bio dad but i couldn't be prouder of him, he still works with me daily in the family business, and i will let him work until the day he drops because that's what he wants to do. I honor him daily by taking the load off his shoulders and carry it proudly. i wish i could find a gift like this somewhere around here, more importantly i wish i could build it myself.
What he does isn't really manual. He is using a cnc machine and a computer guided lathe. He isn't really doing anything manually except sanding and polishing. But either way, the concept if nice and it does take time to learn how to program those machines. I do everything with hand tools and antique tools and lathes so if I was to make something like this, it would take a long time to do cuz it would be done with no computerized tool help or cnc machine. But either way the concept of what he does is cool but anybody with access to those tools he uses could make this no problem as long as they knew how to program and work the tools.
Clicked instantly. I just learned recently in my institute about lathe but manually. Seeing auto lathe is making me excited to learn it in the later semester. Ouh also nice vid 👍🏼
I actually would buy this, are you selling? I have my anniversary coming up and it would be hysterical to get her hyped up only to find a pretty nail in the box than let her act all awkward and than be like "ya baby twist the top"
I thought this was wonderful. I kept wishing you had gotten the initial scratch marks off after sanding post-engraving. You could still see them after polishing.
one Russian word for three English, interesting....google translate: смирись с этим "deal with it". She's going to ask "is the nail gold" or conversely, "is the bracelet brass too "?
If you had a tutorial on how to do these things as well, your channel would be the best machinist channel in the world. For example, no clue on how you programmed the CNC lathe in the beginning, in order to create that beautiful pattern. Did you use some kind of CAD software? Also, it would be great if you did a tutorial for the most common tools for the lathe and the milling machine.
Definitely would love to see how this is programmed, but the scribed lines are likely a simple axis replacement, I wonder if that's also how he does some of the broached parts in previous videos?
This is absolutely beautiful, but I honestly would have preferred if it was solid so that it had literally no purpose whatsoever and was just a neat looking _thing._ I don't know why, but I prefer interesting looking useless objects over functional ones.
Sabeu in Catalan means to know and/or "don't mind it" but Google translate struggled with the letters, so it might be Romanian. The gold chain is a traditional gift for a baby, but also shows up in Judaism. The nail is a symbol for the original nail that held Jesus to the cross (or tree). There is also a Buddhist poem the golden chain: We will be kind and gentle to every living thing and protect all who are weaker than ourselves. We will think pure and beautiful thoughts, say pure and beautiful words, and do pure and beautiful deeds. May every link in Amida's chain of love be bright and strong, and may we all attain perfect peace.

For anyone wondering why he has random give it up engraving, he might mean exactly that but with the context it’s most likely a mistranslation. In Russian, забей does mean suck it up, but it can also mean to drive something (eg. drive a nail in the wall; not actually driving)
I’m really impressed with this comment section. None of the top comments just go “nailed it” yet. Also, this nail gives off “Home Depot theme song, classical rendition” vibes.
That is one way to stash your gold in your walls without anyone being the wiser... Should do it as an "antique" nail, the kind that can penetrate hardwood without splitting the grain... This one being hollow you could turn into a ball point pen... Personally I stash my gold as precipitate dust after refining it.. Looks like a peanut butter jar of dirt in my gardening kit... 😏
Writing on box looks like witchcraft to me. I got my pitchfork, cross, and bible ready for you. Idk what you up to. With that nail. But I got my eyes on you though.
Does anyone do carving by hand anymore ? Like the pattern is good.the product looks good.apart from setting up the machines though. No any real talent.which I'm sure you are totally capable of
Question why does the program choose to make the dimond engraving on the head so complex instead of just straight cuts? Just thought straightforward back and forth cuts instead of complex cuts would lessen the chance of error or the work moving.
If you imagine the wooden box to be coffin you might wonder if this alludes to a final nail in the coffin... I wonder who might be the recipient of the gold chain...?!
Just wondering what is the point of the nail and bracelet together? I'm not seeing the connection. Nice craftsmanship but I don't see how this would ever be used in the way it's meant
