Bees are actually really amazing creatures. They're incredibly intelligent for being so small. I did a lot of research after watching his videos. I have a new respect for bees now.
a few opinions from a fellow bee keeper. those are in fact queen cells, personally i have had much better results using medium brood or crimp wire comb over plasticell, and if you have cold winters invest in "beemax" hives my hives have been much stronger coming out of winter using them. other than that looking great, keep it up!
Fellow beek here. Few things. Welcome to the beekeeper family! Truly awesome to have you. Your hive appears to be requeening it self. You had multiple queen cells. You also should push those drawn frames to the middle and remove your second deep box until the lower box is at least 80-90 percent drawn. I only add second box when 9 frames are drawn. I also do not treat for mites until I have a strong hive, not sure what you are treating with so this could be a mute point. You got it right on feed, feed feed feed as long as they will take it the first year. It takes a lot of energy to build comb and they need it. Keep the videos coming! Your motivating me to post a few of my hives!
You added frames before the bees are ready. Pull the top box off. More space than the bees can guard causes undue stress. You should move the frames to the middle that have bees and the empties on each end. Really it looks like they should still be in a 5 frame nuc. Don't increase the size until 80 percent is full.
I can tell that you're a really good guy that cares about and for animals and plants and I thank you! I was planning to sleep in today since it is Saturday but I woke up and checked my cell for the time and saw that there was a new bee vlog and I just had to watch it.
Hey Crazy Russian Hacker, I'm also a new beekeeper and my dads been teaching me all I need to know on how to take care of my hive. And the tools you're using are a hive tool and a bee brush. Also the glue the bees use to seal everything together is called Propolis .
therapeutic. so soothing and calm just to watch the bee hive grow over time, it is also exciting to see if the bees will still be there with loads of honey and egg. naise, keep up the bee keeping vlogs
PLEASE keep making bee-hive videos,i think i can speak for all of your fans that your bee-hive series is the best series you ever had.We find this very entertaining. :D pld keep making Bee-Hive videos.PLEASE
the bit at 7:25 is called burr comb. They do that when theres not the right amount of bee space usually 9mm, so they fill that bit in. you can leave it there if you want to, but if its in the way, gently remove it. i like to take it with me, and grab an empty frame, loop 1-2 cable ties and each end of the comb, and tie it onto the frame. that way you are getting more production, and less hassle. nice vid by the way :)
Really enjoy your bee vids. I kept bees in Alaska for a few years, was a lot of fun to see the bees work and the honey was fantastic. Still have all the equipment, I really need to get back into it again.
Hello crazyrussianhacker. I'm 16 and have been a beekeeper for 3 years. I have 8 hives. My neighbor has done beekeeping for 67 years and I've learned from him. You're doing good so far and if you encounter any problems let me know. P.S. Be sure to watch and treat your hives for varroa. They killed two of my hives.
Please upload more of these, these are great and very calm it helps me with my stress so I wouldn't mind if you upload these insted of your regular science experiments
+Callum Lonergan Its hard to do it often because would you like a video that comes every day and it would just be it that taras just checks bee hives. Also it would take him sooooo long to do more videos and like i said before nobody wants to watch very often coming vids where he just cheks the hives and says all is ok.
a little tip, leave the bees in there for a few weeks, maybe doba checkerboard, alternating from a full frame(frame with comb) and an empty frame (no comb), also I love to see people get over the fear of bee's and start keeping them
As much as I LOVE Roman and the video's you did with him. I couldn't wait for you to go home to show us some more of the bee hive. :) you da man Taras! haha
I have a bunch of plants that always flower so I always see a lot of bees around in my yard. after watching your videos on beekeeping I want to start keeping bees but I don't have a lot of land like you.
I am a bee keeper and you dont have enough bees in your box to have two hive boxes. You have fresh frames with no wax drawn for the amount of boxes you have. Add another box once all frames are 75% filled with bees in the first box. Your population is pretty low as its obvious a new hive so shrink the box down to 1 so your have then better able to guard the entrance and keep the brood at proper Temperature. good luck
Like I said, it's really nice to see you doing something like this. Like seriously this is a cool hobby to have and i sincerely am happy that you and your bees are doing well! :D
Always wanted to make my own bee farm. Other people typically tell you this and that but you seem to take a more beginner friendly approach with the practical preparations.
My boyfriends mum keeps bees and let me hive a swam with her the other day, so just a couple of things I learnt, when you do decide to put the second layer you need to but a queen guard between the the layers so you can harvest the honey and not get a load of larvae and eggs in the honey. It's very important to check them every week, when you check them look for larvae (all different sizes), eggs and food (honey) and of course keep an eye on the queen and drones(males), I would recommend wearing the suit as well, this is just because the white attracts them and makes them calmer, they also sense your emotions so if you're not calm then walk away from them, and most importantly if you get stung the walk away from the hive and keep calm, the bees can smell the sting and it will anger them. And when it comes to using smoke make sure the smoke isn't hot enough to burn them, what the smoke does is makes them believe the hive is on fire so they got down the hive & start eating all the honey
The peanut looking pieces of comb are queen cells. Watch how many of themm you start to get.. If too many of them, the hive will split and swarm. Usually the current queen lays them as a precautionary backup plan in-case something happens to her.. There will always be another queen in the hive to keep the hive going. She is the only egg layer in the hive.. Yet, she will kill the new queens before they have time to hatch unless she is planned on splitting the hive and swarming with half of the bees... moving to a new home.
if you want to get honey i suggest you use a queen separator so the queen doesn't just lay eggs in all the trays. the bees will also take some time to migrate up into the top part of the hive, they will improve activity as they get used to the climate and environment. also in the cooler months the bees will become less active and you will need to leave some trays with honey in the hive so they can eat it over the cooler months and not die
pro tip (not really im not a pro) but instead of using the smoker, use sugar-water in a spray bottle and spray them, that way they cant fly and attack you(please try this and respond if this works). and if you planning on getting another hive can i recommend you Flow Hive Box, it looks pretty good and cool :D love your work man.

a few opinions from a fellow bee keeper. those are in fact queen cells, personally i have had much better results using medium brood or crimp wire comb over plasticell, and if you have cold winters invest in "beemax" hives my hives have been much stronger coming out of winter using them. other than that looking great, keep it up!

Taras your bee hive is getting so successful and you are an awesome bee keeper.
The comb that the bees make. Looks so beautiful it looks like it's artificially
Three cheers for bee keepers. They are so important for our planet.

Hey here's a tip, make sure you keep up with the weeds while the flowers are growing.... it helps them grow faster
u should take off the first two hive boxes cuz u don't have alot of bees yet and it's bad when theirs a lot of space
Today I'm going to BEE inspecting my BEES. :) I love these videos so much. :)
i love your videos with bees, please make more!
I love these bee vlogs... why? I don't know... but they're great

Hey Tarus I am a beekeeper and the best time to check the bees is around ten o'clock because the worker bees go to find nectar in the morning
Dang this is like a vlog, I like it, I think you should vlog with the bees and all.
I love these bee updates!
pro tip (not really im not a pro) but instead of using the smoker, use sugar-water in a spray bottle and spray them, that way they cant fly and attack you(please try this and respond if this works).
