I was at this game. First and only Monday Night Football game I have ever been to. Man, was I excited to be there. The crowd was electrifying and loud! A little group of guys that were sitting in the seats next to us and in front of us were so cool. The kid sitting to the left of me was giving me chest bumps and high 5's!! We were yelling to the top of our lungs! Lamar Thomas catching that awesome TD pass on the left corner of the end zone!!! Marino put that ball right in the bread basket! Man, that was a great night. I can't believe this was 23 years ago.

I love RUclips because it lets people like me who are from a different generation actually watch some of these old players that we always hear about. One thing I noticed from this game is how much better the commentating is in 1998 than it is now.

I think Jimmy Johnson got mad every time Marino threw a touchdown pass. He wanted to run the ball all the time. He got spoiled by Emmitt Smith in Dallas. But Miami didn’t have an Emmitt Smith. As hard as Johnson tried, he couldn’t draft the star running back he so much wanted. He tied Marino’s arm up. But it was Marino’s arm that would get that 1st down or touchdown after Johnson made them run the ball on 1st and 2nd down and only gain 1 or 2 yards. Johnson DID build a pretty good defense in Miami, and if he had taken advantage of Marino’s arm and developed a pass oriented offense and hadn’t taken away Marino’s play calling privileges, I think they would have had more success.

I wonder what might have happened if they had pulled off that trade for Ricky Williams while Marino still had a little bit left in the tank. Now THAT might have been something.

What a good team Marino had in '98-a No.1 Defense for Least Points Allowed and his backs had OVER 2, 000 yds. rushing and receiving. Dan was missing his perennial All-Pro lineman Richmond Webb, but lucky for Marino I think Webb came back to play in the playoff game a couple of weeks later.

I remember watching from the stands when at 1:03:30 Brock Marion NAILED Ed McCaffrey on that catch. McCaffrey quickly got up and just moved his head and neck from left to right and just jogged off like if the hit was no big deal. You can't really see McCaffrey's reaction to the hit in this video because it cuts off to the replay, but believe me, I was watching him, and he acted as if it wasn't a big hit. Dude, we heard that smack even though we were surrounded by screaming fans. He took a lick. Me and the people around me were like "Bro, go lay down on the bench or something, you know your head is ringing hard right now". I still remember that hit after all these years because I can't forget McCaffrey acting like if that hit didn't rock him.

The Dolphins won the battle, then in mocking Denver on the sidelines afterwards, they lost the war. The Broncos didn’t forget; and when Miami showed up in Denver for the Divisional Round of the Playoffs they were annihilated 38-3. …And it didn’t seem that close.

Wistfully dreaming back to the 1980s when Marino had a decent all around team, great receivers Mark Duper, Mark Clayton and fine receivers Dan Johnson, Jimmy Cefalo, Joe Rose, veteran wr Nat Moore, Bruce Hardy , great all around rb/receiver Tony Nathan , etcetera ... most exciting team ever . It’s because the Broncos weren’t really trying this game. Even as a Fins fan I knew the Broncos were the better team by a long shot. I firmly believe if the Broncos really tried like give 75% they beat the fins soundly. My dad happened to be at this game and he told me even though the fins won he knew something was off. So fast forward to the Divisional round he was not surprised when the fins got manhandled. Also look at Shannahans body language this game it looks like that he didn’t even care that they lost this game.

Truth was Miami was a tough place to win at that time (I was at this game as well), and Mile High even more so. In 1997 & 1998 the Denver Broncos were 19-0 in Home games at Mile High.
