Why isn't it two years?
I think it is taking advantage of year (365 day period) and year (calendar number) being the same word. 3 years (calendar numbers) ago [so year 1] you can have already turned 23, then 2 years (calendar numbers) ago you turn 24 [year 2] moving through the whole thing then year(calendar numbers) 3 you have yet to turn 25. The extra year (365 day period) is split between 2 years (calendar numbers)
