If Nero's Lyre had used a Boss FX Pedal?

  • A live performance of "Nero's Lyre" - lament for solo lyre in the ancient Greek Phyrgian Mode...with Boss RV-6 Reverb Pedal!
My "Musical Adventures in Time Travel" would not be complete, without exploring the notorious Emperor Nero - the most famous lyre player of antiquity, who we actually know by name! According to the timeless folklore, Nero famously played his lyre to accompany the Lament he sang as Rome burnt in the Great Fire of Rome in 64CE: whether this event was fact or fiction is irrelevant - the concept of this piece, is to evoke upon my own lyre, what Nero's famous lament may have actually sounded like...
Of all my many original compositions for solo lyre, I had always wondered what this particular piece would sound like arranged also for strings - the 'shimmer' mode on my Boss RV-6 Reverb Pedal is so far about the nearest I have got to finding out!

It was creating just such an idea, which led to my 2017 album, "Ascension of the Lyre", whose concept (inspired by Spock's 'Vulcan Harp' in Star Trek!), was to quite literally ascend the lyre from its status as a museum relic, to an instrument worthy of our far flung future amongst the stars:

So cool! I have an electric lyre and it has a reverb knob.

Soon it will be a permanent feature! This particular lyre works best with my Luthieros 'lyre audio capsule' piezo pickup, since unlike their own equally awesome lyres, there is a big star shaped sound hole on the back of my Marini lyre seen here, to which the pickup can be inserted directly into the instrument itself & attached to the soundboard just in front of where the bridge sits....all I need now, is a wah wah pedal!

@@MichaelLevyMusic It seems to have a harmonic effect whereas it has a 'lagato synth pad sound' which follows the plucked notes. It makes for incredible background layering of the original sound. How on earth is that accomplished? It is really amazing!

@brightbite I love the way this setting conjures up a spontaneous evocation of an entire string orchestral accompaniment to whatever melodic line is being played - pretty much every desired effect which I could only previously attempt to create via hours of mixing & mastering, instead magically generated in real time whilst I'm actually playing!!

Here is my (thankfully!) one and only attempt at fusing heavy metal & 2nd century ancient Greek music by Mesomedes of Crete:
