    Phoebe is amazing! She can speak Italian with a great accent, French with a beautiful accent and of course British English with a perfect accent!

    You asked about mirroring accents. Well...I do it all the time. I work at an airport on the wheelchair service, which means, I spend more time than usual speaking english with people from the most different places allover the world.
    It's natural, anyway, I try to control it, so no one feels mocked (which is hard), it's amazing how accents can
    stick on someone😂

      Used to happen to me when I drove a taxi in New York. I used to worry theyd think I was mocking them, like a Texas or African American "jive" accent !

    Was exhausted last night when I came back home from a gig. When I was about to fall asleep, I remembered it was friday ( TGIF it's eat sleep dreamers' Day 😉) and couldn't help watching this.     Remember that this is a character from America who is adopting an RP accent. One would expect it to be exaggerated in certain places and completely off in other places. So you saying that it’s not that is actually a thumbs up to the character.

    I’m in northeast US and grew up using the term pop by, pop over, to someone’s house, more often nowadays stop by or drop by with the same meaning. We also would say I’m in your area, as well as in your neck of the woods or ‘hood/neighborhood.

    Lately I just started to learn the British accent (RP), my teacher said that my accent is "neutral" but obviously shows that I don't come from an English speaking country. Good job on your video. New subscriber here :)

      @@EatSleepDreamEnglish I am having a bit of problem with "al" such as "almost", "although". I can say "at all" with a good British accent (or at least something similar) but "al" in the beginning of the word is completely different :D

    My aunt and I took a Warner Brothers Studio Tour the week of April 17,2023, and the fountain and couch are still there! The couch is not comfortable.A great tour, nonetheless.

    I’m in the southern US and we use area more often than neighborhood. I think neighborhood is a more northern US thing, such as New York where FRIENDS was set.

    To 'Ghost' someone is what's also said in America. The same for 'in the area' 'in the neighbourhood' is also used. There's a lot of phrases that used in the UK, that's also used in the US. People don't realise this until you actually live in America.

    Tom, great video! Fun fact...we sometimes use "a-tall" for "at all" here in the deep South in the U.S. With our wonderful southern drawl it sounds like "uh-TAWL." 😁

    i'm american but i lived in the uk for 2 1/2 years in dealing with american ex-pats i noticed american females are far more likely to start picking up aspects of british accents whereas males are far more likely to stick to their original accent. not sure why that is except i think females, in general, are far more concerned with "fitting in" whereas males, in general, have a much greater tendency towards individualism.

    I'm from Kosovo and here we learn English with American accent, but for some reason I find British accent adorable, the way it sounds is fantastic. Now I'm trying to speak more British and I think I'm doing well I'm getting used with it.

    I've never watched this sitcom, but I enjoyed watching the fragments you have chosen for today's lesson 😄 It's clear that in this episode the protagonists are trying to imitate, in a fun and playful way, the British accent 😃 Thank you Tom, funny and instructive this video, as always. I love the American sitcom "The Big Bang Theory" (especially I love, love, love the character Sheldon Cooper) but I don't think there are actors with a particular English accent to analyze in a possible video of this series..... what a pity, though.

    Rene' Zellweger knocked the Brit accent out of ballpark( as we say here in The States) Jennifer Coolidge's is just (intentionally) a bit off which makes it hilarious , especially since we know that she's actually from The Bronx.. 😅

    I'd suspect that a lot of our (American) vowel sounds come from northern accents/vowel sounds.

    Tom I have no idea where to place your American Accent but I think It is not too bad. Your pronunciation seems right to me, no accounting for other American accents but so far as I can tell for me.

    Wow, a great tv show and great analysis. I love your work, keep it up, man. I give Monica a zero that is definitely not how we speak. American always think we speak like that LOL. Another thing I love about this video is the difference between American and British English. I never realized then but Amanda is in tv show two broke girls and her character is identical to her character in friends. The same personality as well.

    What about Emily .. Ross ex wife, that would be an interesting video ... or when Phoebe call the Emily’s parents residence... and the English made answered the phone ... and she got offended because Phoebe was trying to speak With British accent.. and she was saying to many please ... that was funny...! I remember when I start to work in Selfridgs years ago ... I remember some people got offended because I didn’t say please all time, because in Italian grammar we have an other way to ask things in a polite way without saying too many please ... in fact it took me a while before I start to say please all the time and look polite ...

    Your American accent is spot on, Mr Tom. You sound like a right native, at least with the individual words you exampled. I’ve heard a few Brits in my day mimic an American phrase to such a comical degree that you’d swear the only things missing were spurs and a spittoon. Not you, my man.     Some Amr words have a more rounded o vowel, like the British one, but longer, /ɒ:/ like lawyer,awkward,...
    The Amr o vowel in call is not exactly a:
    Its like o with bigger mouth drop and merged with a feature
    Sth yanks copied and stole from some Irish accents

    In American English we say call as C-all
