Pipe Tobacco Review: Seattle Pipe Club "Mississippi River"

- Seattle Pipe Club's "Mississippi River" has made waves in the pipe community over the last few years, regarded by many as a top tier pipe tobacco. Bradley reviews this mild English mixture to see what all the fuss is about.
"Mississippi River is a smooth, medium blend of pressed red and stoved Virginia tobaccos with a unique balance of Louisiana Perique and Cyprian Latakia which makes this krumble kake tobacco a complex and rich smoke with a lovely sweet finish that lingers nicely on the palate. This Seattle Pipe Club Blend was created by our master blending guru, Joe Lankford, and is now being blended and offered for sale by our friends at pipesandcigars.com. A major hit with members who like Virginias and/or English blends - very gentle on the tongue for an all day smoke."

Bradley, I seem to be on a jag of your reviews, but such is the happy lot of us "Senior Pipe Smokers in Today's America." As for English mixtures that don't taste like any others of their kind, in fifty years of smoking I've found more than a few.
I enjoy Mississippi River on occasion, its "sister" Plum Pudding is a little more to my liking. Great review and keep them comming!
I've only had a tiny sample of Plum Pudding, but I enjoyed it while it lasted. I'll have to get a whole tin to really develop an opinion.
Just picked some of this up for the first time. Haven’t had a chance to smoke any yet but it’s on the things to do list for tonight!
Wow you were saying welcome to stuff and things back in 2014!!!! I gotta respesct that. Amazing work over the years!
Hey there! Finally this blend came into my hands/pipe. Despite the fact Im used to more latakia content, MR is really tasty all day smoke that deserves to be in my top 10. Thanks for great describing review!
+Jersey´s Brew n´Puff - My pleasure! Thanks for watching.
Very watchable, you're essentially a pipe tobacco sommelier. Great reviews and info.
High praise! Thanks for watching, and I'm glad you found it helpful.
Another excellent review Bradley. Congrats. I liked it a lot. Thank you.
Hey StuffThings, I really enjoy your videos. Good review, hello from Scotland!
I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying the channel, and it's nice to have a viewer from Scotland!
I just started smoking this a few month ago and I have NEVER heard any reviewer put it so perfectly, so well done young sir! In a short time, its become one of my go-to blends. But instead of an English, I'd call it a Virginia Blend. You might also try Pipers Choice Black Tie from McClelland. Its close... Another blend that you smoke and ask, why in the hell am I not smoking this more is W.O. Larsen's Signature.
Good stuff and thanks!
Dan
I appreciate the feedback and the tobacco suggestions! Mississippi is definitely one of those hard to classify blends. I'm posting a review of Orlik Golden Sliced soon, and that's a little hard to classify as well. It's supposedly a Va/Per, but it's almost just straight Virginia.
Great review!
This is a lovely blend and I have a few pounds of it sitting around in jars. I'm glad to hear you also get the "cured meat" from it. For me that was the most noticeable characteristic when I first tried it and I absolutely loved it. Weird how almost no one else mentions that. Overall, it's a subtle and well put together blend with a lot of nuance. Tasty!
Agreed! Yeah, salted cured meat. Very tasty.
Glad I had a look through your older videos! I bought a tin of this about a year ago and it didn't curl my toes. That boozy-sweet topping almost entirely mutes its component tobaccos. I didn't think it was terrible by any means, I just prefer a more traditional English or Balkan. With that said, you've made me want to give it a second chance.
Thanks Bradley, you review well. I'll look forward to your Orlik!
Dan
Delicious review Bradley
Thanks for watching!
I am a big Dunhill fan especially London Mixture. I recently have tried GL Pease Westminster and Abingdon and really like them as an alternative to my Dunhills. I would appreciate a review of Westminster or both if you have the time.
Love your reviews. Some of the best on RUclips.
darbyvet - Those blends are both on my "To Review" list, so I'll try to get to them eventually. Thanks for watching!
Just recently ordered a couple ounces of this. Thanks for going over it in detail so I can be prepared. Perhaps I should have ordered some Starburst also. Oh well, I will brave it anyway
Ha! Starburts are not mandatory.
Fair enough. Watching your McLelland Three Oaks Syrian review now.
Great Review Bradley.
+Chicago Shaves - Thanks for watching!
Great Vids. thanks for sharing your expertise in tobacciana.
I was just (recently, as in a few months ago I guess) introduced to the SPC blends. Mississippi River and Plum Pudding might be my top tobaccos right now. Really really great.
I just ordered 4 ounces of this stuff can't wait to try it!
You'll have to let us know if you like it (I have a feeling you will)!
Stuff&Things I've smoked about 4 bowls of this since I got on Monday. And it really is an excellent smoke that stands up to all the hype! Highly recommend it!
I'm glad you enjoyed it! I've been smoking it again pretty regularly myself. Every time I do, I wonder why I haven't been!
Excellent video as per usual. Bring back the Beard brother! Looks great 👍🏼👍🏼
Maybe someday!
great review, very informative. i subbed!
Thanks! Glad to have you on board!
Joe needs to be dreaming up a new one.
Ah, Bradley. I really enjoy your videos man. I spend a couple of hours watching you every sunday, while I'm smoking my pipe. And I like your "moisture content system" to recognize the moisture from the tin. Until now, I know:
1 - Drowned rat (did I hear that right?);
2 - Moist towelette;
3 - Goldilocks;
4 - ?
5- Fossilized mastodon;
Is this right?
Haha. I think so. Day-old croissant is number 4.
Nice review!
Good review! I agreed with much of what you mentioned in regards to this blend. I wonder if you've tried Plum Pudding, and if so, how you compare it to Miss River?
Thanks! Yes, I have tried Plum Pudding. It's similar to Miss River, but the addition of Cavendish and the overall balance makes it taste a bit sweeter and richer. Probably more like a traditional English than Miss River is.
A great review
Glad you liked it. More to come!
Can't wait, I also liked your Peterson pipe collection video. Thanks
Still want to order some of this and the SPC Plum Pudding
Plum Pudding is pretty tasty too.
Don't know this one. I should try!
It's a good blend. I'm sure you'd enjoy it.
I want some of this !!! :)
It's good stuff. You should definitely try it out.
Nice review! I'm getting ready to open a fresh tin now! I think I'll pack a bowl and have a smoke! By the way, is that your Mr Brog "Old Boy" pipe lighter? I just bought one off Amazon for $14.99. Thanks for the review on that lighter, I like it! Happy smoking!
That was my Peterson lighter.
Thank you!
Got the special reserve for cheap on cbid. I like it a lot. So far I prefer plum pudding but I've only had 2 bowls so far so will see
i also feel that smoked meat smell on the tin note of the presbyterian. would you say they are similar ir it just the tin note?
Excellent rock star beard.
Hi, I've really enjoyed watching your review, it was informative and complete, would you please make a review for "Robert McConnell - Special London Mature"? I'd like to know your opinion about it. keep up the good work.
I appreciate you watching! I always enjoy getting suggestions for reviews as well.
Thank you for such detailed reviews. I'm new to the pipe as a cigar smoker. Just out of curiosity, would you say that English blends are easier for cigar smokers to enjoy sooner in their pipe smoking experience?
+Andy Meresse - That's hard to say. It DOES seem like many cigar smokers prefer the stronger, full-bodied blends though.
@sebastian pedersen: A review of Orlik Golden Sliced will be coming.
nice
You should compare it to Brunello Flake
hey, brand new pipe smoker and i was wondering what you would recommend to start with? i enjoy dessert-like flavors or a well balanced, all day smoke. any suggestions would be great! love your reviews!
That's really impossible to say. I would suggest you just watch as many reviews as possible and try blends that sound good to you. You'll only figure out and develop your palate through smoking different blends.
Makes sense. Well in that case what is your personal favorite at the moment?
MR special reserve is an indulgence. Go for it
will you please do a review on Orlik Golden sliced? :-D
If you could review Delta MoJo, that would be wonderful!
We'll see. I have a lot of blends on my list, and I'll try to work my way through them all eventually. Thanks for watching!
Great review as always. I love this tobacco although I do tend to go through phases of smokin' the s**t out of it then forgetting about if for months lol.
How did you manage to get hold of a tin!??
I'm the same way! Just got lucky I guess!
Can you store fairly long term in those jars with hinges? I have a couple like that.
I bought some of this about a year ago. I really enjoyed it because i think the perique really stands out in the blend. Since then have read somewhere online that mississippi river blend has changed in some regard and some people were not pleased with the change Can anyone elaborate or has anyone heard the same thing? Im thinking about buying some more i have an 8 ounce tine still unopened that i am cellering. So i dont want to open it.

Can you please review Ashton Consummate Gentleman pipe tobacco ? Thanks!
I'll add it to my "to do" list!
That's all I smoke I buy 3 lbs. at a time............Mark
So YOU'RE the one buying it all up!
Tasty you say? I must apologize to you Miss River fans, but I think this blend is way too mild for me. In fact, to me it's almost tasteless. I'll be adding more Latakia and more Perique to give it a big boost. IMO, IT NEEDS IT!
Where would I find the little tray you have the tobacco and your pipe on? I would like to have one and have been searching for them, but I guess I don't know what they are called to perform and effective search. I can only seem to come up with ash trays... thanks...
Wish I could help, but I found it at a little antique store for a few bucks.
STUFFandTHINGS that may actually help a bit. I can try an antique shop and see if I get lucky!
review sleepy hollow tabacco, and why it is seasonal ?
I'm not a big aromatic fan, but I might get to it eventually. Thanks for watching!
Where at in the Northwest are you located
Check out this Tobacco Pipe Video, it is sure to give you a chuckle. Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/Sa01xvglGiI/видео.html
+Ms. Skeeter - Ha! Good stuff.
+Stuff&Things I'm glad you liked it :)
Recently I've found myself enamored with Sutliff Private Stock "Man's Best Friend." Unfortunately I find that it has been discontinued. Are you familiar with that blend? And if so, do you know of a blend you would recommend as a replacement?
I can't say I've ever tried it. Sorry!
Anybody know where I could get this exact pipe? Seriously, i'm actually in love with it
It's a Peterson Deluxe 20S.
It kinda pisses me off that this blend used to bulk. Did plum pudding do the same?
Would you smoke this in a pipe you use for english blends or in a pipe for Va/Per blends?
I don't worry about dedicating pipes, but I would definitely call this more of an English blend than a VA/Per.
Have you tried Lane 1Q? That's another one that gets a lot of positive reviews. .......Do you live in Seattle? I live up in Marysville.
Haven't tried 1Q yet. I'm always a bit leery of aromatics, but I have heard that it's a quality tobacco. Perhaps I'll get adventurous some day and try it! I live in good ol' B'ham.
Mathew?
Hey Stuff&Things, does your into have a name?
+Arttu Rello - It's a song I recorded years back called "Radio." I'm afraid it's not available anywhere though.
Well Bradley, with that beard and mountain man haircut you look like a cross between Matthew McConaughey and Charlton Heston at about 35 years old. Must be one of those blends responsible for that, let me know which one, I’ll start smoking it myself 😉
Are you related to Kris Kristofferson?
Lol- my wife says Nightcap smells like a greasy oily truck engine.
Reason why stem is not inserted all the way down to the shank?
It's a pressure-fit "army mount." It's not supposed to fit flush.
It's funny to think that a pipe club would come from such an unfriendly tobacco city as Seattle lol
u look like the guy from Free state of Jones lol
You really turned me off this..if I wanted to smoke meat I would put a ham in my pipe
Seattle pipe club prolly has a non compete set up with the people who make it.
Your beard neither has the greyness or the length for me to watch this. Next youtube search " man with huge beard reviews pipes"
Haha. Those videos shouldn't be hard to find.
STUFFandTHINGS yeah that actually yielded a lot of results. And I didnt mean to be rude to the guy who made the vid, I was being cheeky haha.
