  • Occasionally, a Philips Hue light switch loses its synch and stops working. Here's a quick fix.
BTW, if this doesn't solve your problem, try changing the battery. You'll need a CR2450.

Mine has seemed dead for about 6 months now, always thought it was a battery needing replacement. Funnily enough, I did this just now and it works again!

    Thank you very much.
Just about to send it back to shop as I thought it was broken!
Unbelievable that the instructions don't mention this 🤯🤣

Thank for the tip. The dimmer stopped working and just showed a red light when a button was pressed. I removed the switch from the setup then, after your reset method, I was able to re-add the switch.

When I push a button, the light in the top left corner of the switch doesn’t flash. I have inserted a brand new Duracell battery. I held all four buttons down as you suggested, the switch flashed green/amber/red and then stayed solid green. I released, but again, the indication light on the switch doesn’t flash when I press a button. Do you have any other ideas?

If you've tried a fresh battery and a reset and it's still not operating the light then you may need to remove and re-add it via the HUE app.

@@ChrisBoylan Thank you for your fast reply. I have just done that, and I am still having problems. It appears that one of the four new Duracell batteries I purchased from Amazon is faulty. I have just ordered some Panasonic batteries, and fingers crossed they will work. Thanks again, much appreciated!

This didn't work for me. I only got it working again after doing a hard reset (holding down the setup button for 10 seconds), then re-pairing it with the bulbs.

Try a new CR2450 battery. You can get them on Amazon. I'd suggest a brand name like Panasonic. If that doesn't work, you may need to remove the switch from your account and re add it. Good luck!

I also tried resetting the switch (the pinhole at the back), but nothing seem to help. BTW, I couldn't control my lamp from the app either, but clearing cache in the android app helped fix it, then I updated the bulb software, reset it from the app. I can control it from the app now, but not via the switch. It now blinks orange roughly every 2 seconds. Any ideas?

I would try deleting the switch device from Hue and re-adding the switch. Also, make sure you have a fresh CR2450 battery. Low batteries also wreak havoc on these switches.

this is a reset right ? so this means if you have scenes set on the switch you'll have to reconfigure it right ?

    • @ChrisBoylan

It's a reset but it doesn't clear scenes. Those are stored in the cloud in your Hue account.
