A remarkable and enduring history of tradition, duty, faith and loyalty in the service of the Pope and the Holy See….the earthly equivalent of St Michael, the Archangels and Cherubim hosts guarding the realms of heaven. May God continue to bless the Swiss Guard.
Gave their lives on the steps to heaven, thy will be done...for the grace for the might of the lord, for the home of the holy, for the faith for the way of the sword, gave their lives so boldly.
I love Swiss people and cheese... Do you know the Malakoff ? Made with cheese. Love it. It's from Vaud area. On the hill surrounded by vineyards, over the Leman's loch. Etiva is made at the Col du Pilon. Gruyère near Fribourg. Etc... I am a lucky guy who had the chance to travel a little bit.
Hmmm... I don't know, the swiss being neutral for centuries therefor nobody really hates them, and if you let in people from different countries it could cause problems. I mean if there would be mexicans and american guards and someone like trump acts like he does it could cause problems in the unit.(just an example). The Papal Guard isn't to show off different countries it's there to deffend the pope and if not needed be quiet and do the traditional thing with those fancy pants ;). And the swiss guard is a century long tradition why now breaking up with it?Never change a running system the swiss guards have done a brilliant job so far there is no need to change that.
There was an international army that protected the Pope in the 1800s, which had majority soldiers from the Netherlands, France and Belgium, many from Canada and Italy and I believe one Chinese, one Indian, around 3 blacks from Africa, one Mexican and two Russians. Alot more from a whole bunch of other nations. It was called the Papal Zaouves.
Well...not neutral. The politics are neutral not the economy that's a different. And if you are surrounded by fascists and your agriculture isn't sufficient for food you are more or less forced to deal with he devil. And the only thing the facists were interested was guns, transport and money. Just look at the map of WW2 mussolini to the south, hitler to the north and east and a defeated france to the west. There was no option other then making deals with the devil.
🤣🤣🤣 Makes no sense... Their citizenship makes them neutral, so how effective can they be in defence against a nation state... When they must maintain neutrality
Well , guess that puts the BS to your "longest military unit in existence" . What date are you starting at since they have been disbanded TWICE by your information . Also want to point out that the Roman Empire and the Eastern Roman empire were two DIFFERENT empires and Rome was no longer a power long before Byzantium came into existence . EDIT : MY GOD MAN , CHECK YOUR MATH ! 150 start a battle alive 147 die and 48 survive .... care to explain how that one happened ?
Yes you are . Name calling is a troll maneuver while I was correcting misinformation presented as fact with facts , which is not . Apparently you don't even know what a troll is but you just HAD to add something to a conversation about a topic you apparently know nothing about or you might actually answered my questions .
Thank you for your service, Swiss Guards. Very smart uniforms, distinctive blend of heartfelt service and tradition👍🙏👌

Men in my family were Swiss Guards.
Good for them and good for you. I'm sure it was an honour for them to have served the vicar of Christ.
Cool :)
What kinda military decorations do your family members have?
Wow, amazing...
you are blessed.
Thank you, Swiss Guards for guarding our Popes for Centuries. We love you

I’d like to see a Swiss Guard up close
Amen.
Beautiful film. I love the colourful uniforms they wear.
Maybe they should recall the Noble and Palletine Guards to handle the crime in St Peter's square.
Wow! Merci papa 💗
I always wished the Swiss guard had a foreign legion, because I would join in a heart beat.
A lot of people would, at least 100k
The Swiss Papal Guard have the best uniforms ever.
Beautiful aren't they?

A new guard unit for international people would be a good compromise to let everyone else into the guard.

Don’t change something that works for 500 years.
1973Washu that would defeat the purpose
So they swear allegiance to an individual? The Pope? Not the state..
Hmmmm... Didn't someone else do that...🤔
🤣🤣🤣

its a shame Charles the V didnt finish the job
Charles V didn't offer his men to attack Rome, they went against his orders. And your comment reflects your malice
