I went to a community straight after high school because it was like a cushion of time for me to decide a 4 year. I didn't expect my AP credits to accelerate the 2 years into 1. At first I thought Cal State LA would be fine because I was basing my choice on my career path...now I am second guessing everything and going into crisis mode.
My son who is Korean-American is probably going to go there in the fall. Are there any Korean/Asian restaurants/markets close by? He will have a car. Thanks Kaylee!
hi! thanks so much for this very helpful video. I'm also asian-american and from an area with a LOT of asians haha so im worried about the diversity as well. i was wondering if you could tell me overall is the school's atmosphere more liberal or more conservative? i'm worried bc i'm aware that orange county is more conservative and i also heard about that professor from chapman who supported rudy giuliani and trump for the election fraud allegations lol. just wondering what the vibes of the school are. ty!!!
Ty! Your pros and cons gave me useful information and you presented them well. And thanks for including your friends. They likewise had useful information presented in a cogent manner.
I wanna get my bfa in acting and I noticed that chapman had a bfa in screen acting specifically. Chapman looks so gorgeous n I want to go but I really wanted to know the pros and cons! Thank u!
This video is very helpful! I just chose to look at this video because the previous one was a video of Chapman students going to the Philippines which I really liked. You made that video. So I had to look at this video. I don't really know if Chapman would be the right school for my daughter to go to. I was thinking of USC, Cal State Long Beach, Caltech, or UCLA from the Los Angeles/Southern California area. I heard of Chapman University but it's in Orange County and we as a family have only been to Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm which is in Orange County. I have never seen Chapman University or visited the campus. Is it the right school for my daughter? Her interest is Biomedical Engineering. If there is no Biomedical Engineering major at Chapman University, then her next choice would be a BS in Electrical Engineering, possibly with a minor in Art. Is there a separate entrance exam to get into the Biomedical/Electrical Engineering program at Chapman University? We live in Shiprock, New Mexico, about 760 miles away from Chapman University. My daughter is half Native American (Navajo) and half Filipina. She is 16 years old. Would she fit in at Chapman University? I heard you say Chapman University has very low diversity and has few Asian students. My daughter finished all her high school courses and is taking college courses for an Associates Degree in Engineering. Her high school GPA is 4.2, and her college GPA is 3.5. She will start the 11th grade for Fall 2021 even though she finished all her high school courses, and will continue taking college courses for her Associates Degree in Engineering. She will get her high school diploma and Associates Degree in Engineering at the same time in Spring 2023 (May 2023) at San Juan College High School in Farmington, New Mexico. She will start at a university or college in Fall 2023 (August/September 2023) some where in the USA. Would my daughter feel accepted by the community/student body at the low racially diverse Chapman University? Would she fit in coming from New Mexico being Native/Filipino? Would she be given mental health support (if needed) and financial aid support (that's needed) to succeed there? Would she make good positive friends and be happy there? Also, does Chapman University have high morals? Does Chapman University allow students to smoke marijuana? [because California is a marijuana smoking U.S. State] Can students go to church on campus? My daughter is Catholic. Is the neighborhood around Chapman University safe? What is the price range of apartments that rent to students around Chapman University if my daughter is unable to get a dorm on campus?
Great video!! I'm transferring and I found this video to be so so so helpful and reassuring. Thank you and thanks for also providing other people's opinions.
your videos are so cute and helpful! is there any advice you’d give on how to make chapman more affordable? does speaking with the financial aid office help? i’ve been accepted into chapman, but i haven’t fully committed yet bc im scared of drowning in debt lol thank youu!!
apply for scholarships! I know this is an obvious one and you can talk to financial aid but the aid you already got is probably the aid you're gonna get. I don't know if you received it yet but in your financial aid package it'll show you all the grants and scholarships and all of that. Honestly, college is expensive and the schools themselves can't do too much to help but I say reach out to the finaid office and apply for scholarshipss
Hi! As an incoming freshman it was really interesting to hear some unfiltered opinions! I have a question, why do both you and Katharine want to switch from Creative Producing? I'm admitted under that major so I'm curious... Thank you :)
Hi! Yes we are both switching but it's because we both coincidentally found interest in documentary filmmaking! Nothing wrong with the major as it has an amazing program. I will go more in depth about my switching major experience some time soon but I just thought I'd let you know that Creative Producing is a great major!
Your videos are great and super helpful! Just wondering how often students go to the beach and how far it is? Or do they ever explore the town or go to restaurants and things or is there really not much to do?
It's different for everyone. But I've seen a lot of students going to the beach. There are multiple beaches and they're not too far as long as you have a car or your friend does. But honestly there isn't too much to do in the city of orange itself. Having a car makes it a lot more accessible to do different activities but a lot of students on campus have cars so people still are able to do a lot of things and have fun even if they themselves don't have cars.
Hey! I’m actually going to Chapman next year as a freshman and I only live 5 min from campus. I don’t know if you any commuters yourself, but if you do, would you say it’s hard to make friends not living in dorms?
Natalie Huante actuallyy my friend Claire in this video is a commuter! As long as u put in effort to join clubs or hang out w friends from class and stuff ull definitely meet people and chapman does a great job with having events for commuters to meet friends during o week and stuff!
Honestly, since I myself am not a first gen student, I don't know too much but one this I know is that if you were to study abroad they would pay for your flight and I THINK there are financial aid opportunities for that? and there are different programs specifically for the first generation students so that you can really have a community.
My friend is first gen and he didn’t rlly get anything from being first gen there’s this club thing you can join but it’s not w that many ppl. It’s kinda wack I think it’s what you put in to it
Thank you so much! I've been admitted as a BA in theatre. Do you have any friends in the theatre program? If so, what are their pros and cons about the department?
not sure if youre still answering questions on this video but i was wondering how competitive the film production at dodge is. are there any tips to help make your way into the film program at chapman through your application?
hey! this is such a late response so you may not need to know anymore but on their website it says film production is 7% acceptance rate for freshman, 8% for transfers :)
Im choosing between chapman for broadcast journalism + documentary and depaul in chicago for film and tv production and cannot decide at all. Would you say at chapman I can still take some film classes even if thats not my major? Or are they super exclusive to the film production students? Have you heard good things about the broadcast program?
Hi! Yes! Actually, I myself am trying to switch into that major, specifically focusing on the documentary aspect. The program is amazing and the professors are great! There are a lot of film classes that overlap for multiple majors within the film school so you will not be limited to just BR&J classes, however, it is not all film prod classes that are allowed for other majors. Other than that, there are some great options(such as editing, audio, etc) so I hope this helped!
@@KayleeInADay Is it difficult to switch majors within dodge? I was between BR&J and TV writing + production when I applied so I might want to switch later if i go
@@maxkarpman3751 It depends what major it is, the process itself isn't too difficult if you're switching between dodge but I am in the process of switching my major so once everything is figured out I plan on making a video about that whole process!!
hey love the videos!!! I'm coming in as a film production sophomore transfer in Fall 2020 and I wanted to know how Chapman is for transfers, in terms of how welcoming people are and stuff, because I do know it tends to get kinda group divided - also how often do people really go to L.A and how big is greek life? thanks xx
From what I've seen I feel that transfers do fine at Chapman! I've had lots of transfers in my classes and there was no division between transfers or rest of the students. Obviously I'm just speaking from what I've experienced but I'm sure you'll have a great time! And people actually go to LA quite often, especially because a lot of people bring cars, they go visit over the weekends and especially in film, there are sets taking place in LA and things like that! And greek life is pretty big, I've seen so many people involved in greek life, including my roommate and people seem to love it! hope this helped :)
I don't know if I phrased it right but what I meant is that because the school is small you do notice friend groups more easily as opposed to going to a big school and everyone not really knowing each other other than their own friends. So I mean there are different groups of people hanging out and I'm not saying they aren't diverse but the school as a whole isn't as diverse if that makes senes? haha sorry if this is confusing
hey, i'm applying to BFA screen acting, do you know something about this major? if is it too competitive? or if it is a good major to do? also if i could get the set experience?
Hii I’m looking to go to Chapman as an exchange student. I’m currently majoring in film and media production and I’ve had a look at the variations available but they all sound kinda similar. Are you able to let me know which ones are more practical/hands on or generalised? This video was super helpful and I rlly appreciate it! 💗
Honestly I would say all of the programs are pretty hands on! With any of the major you're able to work on sets and do some sort of hands on work, it just depends on you really pushing yourself to be on set because there are many opportunities to do so! I'm not sure what your exact interests are but every program is awesome its just that they all focus on different aspects of filmmaking. Film production: is very hands on, most competitive, have the opportunity to choose an emphasis (editing, directing, etc) Creative producing: is very focused on the producing aspect and there are many opportunities to actually produce short films and have hands on experience Broadcast and Doc: (which is what im in) is super hands on as well. You don't have to pick but I'm trying to focus more on documentary and there's so many opportunities to work on documentaries and be in groups. I don't really know too much about the other majors but all of them are very awesome programs and specialize in different things. You can also take classes from different majors as well (ex. film prod student can take doc classes, etc.) so whatever you choose there's an opportunity to be hands on! mm honestly I would say school spirit wise we're not big in sports or have any huge spirit events at chapman so there isn't too much school spirit in that sense. For the party scene I wouldn't say Chapman is a big party school but there are parties pretty much every weekend and if you're looking for them they aren't hard to find! Hope this helped!
